Replacing Broken XC70 Tailgate & Bumper Cover After Low Speed Battle In Starbucks Parking Lot
Grabbing a quick coffee at Starbucks led to a backing incident with a much larger pickup truck - apparently he couldn't see the XC70 from his higher pickup perch.
The slow-speed incident destroyed the XC70 tailgate window and cracked the tailgate material significantly. We already had the damaged rear bumper cover from our initial purchase July 2019.
Follow along as Lagertha, The Shield Maiden, gets a rejuvenated posterior!

New Fuel Injectors Chasing Previa SC P0171 Lean Code To The Cylinder Head Side After Head Gasket
มุมมอง 8319 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Nearly 3,200 miles after replacing the head gasket on our 1994 Toyota Previa LE SC AllTrac we are still getting a recurring P0171 Fuel System Lean code intermittently. I have not found any vacuum / air leaks on the instake manifold (driver side) so we are now heading back to the cylinder head (passenger side) replacing the Toyota OEM Fuel Injectors and looking for any possible vacuum / air leak...

Haynes Manual makes this project seem so simple - just disconnect the electric connectors and unbolt the old sensors / reinstall with new. Sure sounds easy. All of the video samples I found reference non-turbo Volvo P2's (S60, V70, XC70, S80). The P2 Turbo makes access to the oxygen sensor connections much more difficult! I'm doing this job on my 2006 V70. OEM here too. Now I'm going to be extra careful replacing those o-rings. What I don't get is that the oem o-rings I bought come in a set of 2 for each injector. Where does the other one go? Nice to see it all apart like you have it here. Funny that we have to cut a notch out of the new gasket! Also nice to see the back of the engine opened up. I'm doing all the cam seals so I'll be in there soon. Watching other videos, yeah that banjo bolt looks to be a bi*ch, but seeing it here all open really helps me frame what's going on. Thanks for sharing all this. Nice job.

On a side note. Finding cracked/worn seals is to be expected at high mileage. You can replace them as you go along since most will still operate. But unfortunately when you move a part with worn seals/rings, they will fall apart when removing. That's universal in all cars.

if you know how it really is as easy as the book says, reach in with a long flat screwdriver and slide it under the red tab, twist the screwdriver to lift the tab, the grey lever is easier with a short screwdriver so you can lever it. They are designed so you don't need to remove them from the bracket. Yours is fwd, thats a lot easier than the awd with the angle gearbox in the way. But either way you still have to pull the airbox and pipes. get yourself a lift, i put a maxjax M7K mid rise 2 post on credit card this spring, i have 2 more payments left to go. You have the same exhaust i have, i have a 02 v70xc though, i like that exhaust, everyone else hates it lol. I been getting same problems, my throttle body is only 4 years old though but one cold morning i went to go to work and i heard a crack like glass cracking, i didn't think anything of it but then the yellow light came on saying reduced engine performance and i could only go 15 mph and i got to a parking lot and just parked it and walked to work, got back and started car and everything was fine and i shrugged it off as it was just the cold, then i went to store and seen a bunch of white smoke coming from my exhaust and got to store and shut off and seen white smoking just coming out of exhaust, it was weird, i thought my head gasket blew or something and i kept my car at store and had my friends help me get it, drove home without any smoke. Now i get the P2131 code in the background and my throttle behaves oddly, my mechanic is telling me my throttle body is failing but its only 4 years old and it is a bosch and so im thinking it just needs cleaned but i think he just doesn't want to do all the work getting it out and it actually does need replaced and him putting it back in and id have to get a new one anyways. I am trying to talk him into cleaning it though.

i don't know if the spacer is strictly necessary. i have a 302 f150 with a carburetor, and i put on an aluminum intake and a phenolic spacer. it's necessary for that because with ethanol in the gas nowadays the carburetor can get vapor locked and stop sucking gas, so it has to stay cool. it's also in the middle of a v8 with a big air cleaner above it, so it's in a fairly heat prone area - on purpose, because the engine was originally designed with a cast iron intake that took forever to heat up in the winter, so much so that they piped exhaust into the intake manifold to gather up some heat. that being said, on these turbo volvos with an intercooler, there is cold, high volume air piped directly into the intake through the throttle body. that's going to remove a lot of the heat. also, aluminum is conductive enough that it's good at collecting heat, but it's also good at dispersing heat. the throttle body is located somewhat far away from the valve train and the exhaust, so it's not likely to get too warm, i would guess. the heat also has to travel through 2 gaskets and 12" of metal to get there. the computer, meanwhile, is probably built to withstand 350 degrees anyway, as that's the average temperature under the hood during operation. the spacer won't hurt anything either but just wanted to say in case anyone watching this gets worried about it. personally i think the original design is ok as it is, though a little cumbersome to work on

1996 OBDII was required. Roughly half the cars had it in 1995. Some cars models in 1995 had both such as the Mustang 3.8l was obd II but the 5.0l was obd I. Some 1993 Nissans had a OBD II port but I don't know if they worked and followed the protocol. Some cars had both OBD I and II ports depending what system you needed to access like trans, airbag or pcm.

What you're pointing to is not the variable valve intake timing. The VVT is on the front, or the opposite end of the engine. I have a 2004 XC70 AWD T5 and mine has both an intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors. I'm not how your vehicle can drive without them. Also; please use caution driving from Dallas back to Colorado. Highway 287 is a known spot for cops to bust people for drugs.

    • @jamiecars

Correct - Working on the Cam Position Sensor (Exhaust) - which allows the computer to know where the cam is positioned with the corresponding VVT (Exhaust). Those silicone hoses aren't doing you any favors. When hoses cannot expand, they find the weakest point to leak at. Or in your case, at the clamp. Genuine rubber hoses are designed to expand and constrict as the engine heats up and cools down. For this particular hose, that worm-gear style clamp is okay. However, in other areas, it is not recommended because it does not allow the hoses to expand, and digs into the hoses, thereby weakening them. The OEM hoses are known as Oetiker clamps. These do allow the hoses to have somewhat flexibility, yet still prevent leaking.

I have a 2001 s40 1.9 turbo 4 cylinder. And I’m in the process of replacing the pvc valve system. And what I ordered is longer than the stock pvc valve line. Do you fix Volvos?

I'm not a mechanic - just working on our older cars. Go to IPD to see parts for your 1.9 engine - or FCP Euro. That's where I buy my Volvo parts.

Volvo 1.9T is a 4 cylinder block. Sounds like you received for a larger Volvi 5 cylinder block: 2.3T, 2.4T, or 2.5T - or even possibly one of the larger 6 cylinder blocks: 2.8 or 3.2...

coolant drain plug doesn't come out, you just turn it 90 degs and then open the coolant pressure tank cap and it will drain quickly. Injector O rings and pintle caps should be replaced, you already broke one so swap them all.

o ring in the oil pan on the oil feed galley to the solenoid is clogged or pinched. Vida can run a cycle test to show cvvt solenoid reaction time. In vida, go to the vvt solenoid, it will show a picture of the solenoid, click on the picture to launch the test menu. When using vida you should keep a charger on the battery, it activates all the modules and gobbles the battery power in short order. You need a very healthy fully charged battery to run the volvo 5 cyl, it doesn't like low volts, the computer won't play. The engine will run but set a CEL if off 2 teeth,.
