Join me where I chat about my knitting and occasionally weaving.
I’m based in Australia so it’s unlikely you’ll see any big chunky knitwear here. I mostly work with fingering weight and DK weight yarns in wool, linen and cotton.
I’m usually recording in my studio where I keep my yarn stash and my weaving looms.

Oh I'd love that
@@thetreasurehuntingboomer she dyes lovely colours so I’m looking forward to seeing what each day brings 💜
Gorgeous little cardi I want to knit something for my great grandies next year. I dont know how u managed doing the lesson to kids lol . Hope they all doing it still . Not one of my girls showed interest in creating things yet I was doing stuff since I was 5 . Gorgeous hat and baby cardy
Thanks so much. I love seeing kids enjoying crafting - I think the first week was difficult but by week 2 they were so inspired and really enjoying themselves. Maybe your girls will get interested when they're older.
@yarnaboutyarn 30s 20s and 18 still not interested lol maybe miss nearly 1 will be
Never seen or heard of them what a great tool
@@NellyBGoodcreations much quicker and neater than doing it by hand
Soooo beautiful those colours are perfect
thanks Nelly. Have you started your mitts?
@yarnaboutyarn new video just landed over there :)
@@thetreasurehuntingboomer yay! I'll watch tonight
Love your shawl. The Slip stitch Triangles are great. My first shawl and am a learner. Got a bit lost in this area on stitch count.
It took me a while to get the hang of this section too - lots of slow counting. I love that it got quicker and quicker as the number of stitches decreased.
I like your Go Go Dynamo, but your woven shawls are also very nice, love the tissue 🙂
Thank you so much.
:)
Hi 👋 This is my first Stephen West shawl and I’m really enjoying it even though it’s a lot of knitting….I’ve nearly finished clue 3 hopefully I’ll get it done today and be ready for clue 4 tomorrow 🤞mine is a lot smaller than it should be as I mistakenly used 3.5 needles and I’m quite a tight knitter but I’m happy with the results 😊
Glad to hear you're enjoying it. The beauty of his shawls are that they are usually quite large so even if yours is smaller it should be all good. What colours have you chosen?
I'm loving how your colour choices are knitting up. So pretty! 💜💜💜 ❤ Tamantha
Thanks - I'm so happy I went with these colours
Wow gorgeous colours too
Woven piececis gorgeous too
@@thetreasurehuntingboomer thanks so much Nelly xx Are you coming back to TH-cam? I miss your videos
:)
Im from the uk 🇬🇧 🤗
Hi Amanda. Are you knitting the MKAL too?
@@yarnaboutyarn hi , no im not doing the MKAL im really busy with work and wouldn’t keep up and that would stress me out 🫣 but i love seeing others doing it ☺️
@@amandab8838 It's all part of the fun & community of the MKAL to see what others are doing - what colours they've chosen and how they decide to knit each part.
How do they stay wound they don't come apart ? what are u using to twist them
I'm winding 4 groups clockwise, then putting 2 of those groups together and winding anti clockwise and tying a knot at the end. It's an Ashford fringe twister
@@yarnaboutyarn ah ok very cool
Your shawl looks great. Love the colors. First tune at your channel. I'm Judy finishing the bubbles. I love in sunny and hot Arizona USA❤
Hi Judy, thank you & thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. What colours have you chosen?
Wow that's gorgeous your work is so beautifully done
Thanks Nelly, hope you're doing ok
Hi Christine, just found your channel ad I like to see your MKAL progress, and I love your colors 🙂. Stephen West patterns came to me with the Twist and Turn MKAL and since then I made several of his shawl pattern, because I really like his way of designing. I was very excited to start the Go Go Dynamo MKAL, you can see a short Video of my Clue 1 on my TH-cam channel, its @Tihyowe and today I started Clue 2, I love the way of this new MKAL shawl and I also try to finish one clue before the next clue is online. Wish you a happy knitting time and greetings from Germany, Maike. 💜
Hello Maike & welcome. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I'll have a look at your channel. I'm enjoying this MKAL as well and looking forward to seeing where he takes us.
Always ‘behind’, but really enjoying clue one, and in the rhythm of it now. I’m still intrigued to see where we go for clue 2, and what new stitches and techniques Mr West has for me!
Like Stephen says "embrace your pace" I'm looking forward to seeing clue 2
Hi I ve just found greetings from edinburgh Scotland
Hi Glenda & welcome! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Are you also doing the MKAL?
hi from Melbourne Christine❤
Hello! How is your MKAL knitting going Simone?
Love your colors, mine are black and fusha. I am allnaturalnut on Rav but am not on any other media platform. I think I started on Friday and I should finish my third semi-circle today.
It's lovely! Very striking. How are you finding knitting with black?
@@yarnaboutyarn Not having problems but I do have progressive lenses, is that cheating? ;)
I tried joining 2 semi circles last night and gave up. Today is a brand new day to try again:)
I found joining the semi circles the trickiest part so far. My advice would be to make sure you have plenty of time when you won't be disturbed and go slow, follow each step. Good luck!
I am just at part 2, I am a little behind, because I celebrated my 70 th birthday this werkend. Unfortunately not much knittingtime. You can see my progress at ravelry . My ravelry name is Klaram (klara Meijer) I live the in Netherlands
Happy Birthday! Birthday celebrations are more important than MKAL. Your colours are lovely - I think this will be a beautiful shawl.
@@yarnaboutyarn thank you
Let me know how you're going with Clue 1. Are you enjoying it? Any thoughts on where we'll go from here? Include your socials so I can see your progress too.
Looks fabulous Christine! I feel like I have that thought every year 😂 nice to see you back!
Thanks Madeleine
Hi Christine...new to your channel...doing my first WestKnits MKAL. So excited. I'm in Melbourne. 🎉❤✨️
Hi Simone, thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment! What colours have you chosen for the MKAL?
Love the colours;)
Thank you. I'm really happy with them
Love your stash pull!
Thank you, me too! It's knitting up beautifully - although I'm not sure black was a good idea (I need my extra strong light on!)
:)
Lovely to met you and yes this is my first Mkal brought a kit from Skein Sisters and and started last night…..
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I'm assuming a fellow Aussie if you're shopping at Skein Sisters - what colours are you using?
I said “no” after making 2 Geogradient Last year. But, of course, I caved in , bought the pattern and did the stash dive as well. It’s about community and enjoying the journey even if I never wear the shawl. Your colors are lovely!
I had a couple of fail MKALs in the past but after seeing the 2020 one (Slipstravaganza?) and being disappointed in not having joined in, I think FOMO gets the better of me now. And it's always fun
I've never done a mystery knit along. I'm team "I like to know what it looks like first" 🤣 LOVE your colour choices! Can't go wrong with purple and black. 💜 Looking forward to seeing the finished shawl. ❤ Tamantha
I know what you mean about knowing what it looks like first. This is the only MKAL I'll do because I know it will have something totally unexpected in it and I always learn something.
Dark purple and a speckled yarn but no mohair maybe 🤔 sparkle instead.
Can't go wrong with purple 💜 and sparkle sounds lovely!
Nice to see you. I’m team stash this year apart from my mohair dare.
Nice! What colours have you chosen?
@@yarnaboutyarn I’m using Patonyle artistry in Verdue mix, Araucania Huasco sock in Villasol and DHG Fluffy in olive green. So a variegated green with a paler speckled green/gold/grey.
@@jenniferbaker5903 sounds lovely!
I watch MKALs from the sidelines. I would never manage to keep up, but I do like to see SW's designs.
It's certainly a pressure knit if I'm trying to keep up. I know some people don't finish until just before the next year's MKAL starts but I think if I don't keep up I may never get it done 🤣
Again great to see your back. I am joining the SWMKAL again this year not team kit as half stash and then purchased two skeins of the other colour. So excited and ready to Go Go Dynamo later this evening 😂😊
Oh yay! What colours are you using?
Lovely to see you back. I did miss your episodes. I’m not talking part in the mkal, I just enjoy seeing everyone’s shawls.
Hi Julie thanks for hanging in there. I think that's the best part of the MKAL - seeing all the different projects and colour combinations.
Hi Christine I’m also opening an advent calendar but mine is Obsession Yarns and a yarn not fibre advent but I thought of maybe knitting the Radvent Cardigan by Ambah O’Brien.
Obsession Yarns advent looks amazing so far. I looked at Radvent but not sure about the sleeve shape, so maybe Ambah's new one - the Twist Cardigan??
New viewer here -- in the USA. I will go back to watch some of your earlier episodes. I am also over 60, recently retired, and became a daily knitter when I discovered the online knitting community around 2004, well before Ravelry. My knitting group meets weekly, soon to start our 14th year, and I find it motivates me to have something to show for my week, either a new cast-on, progress or an FO. I will be looking forward to your next episodes. (I searched but did not find an American flag.)
Hi Marsha and welcome. Which part of the US are you in? I wish I had a local knitting group (that's fantastic that you are in your 14th year, it must be like a family) but I am hoping to join a local spinners and weavers group in the new year
@@yarnaboutyarn Hello again! I am in the southwest corner of Washington -- the Evergreen state. The climate here tends to be mild and wet, although the last several years have confirmed climate change is moving north. This is a great location for LYS within a couple of hours, so the knitters and I occasionally make a day trip of yarn crawling. Any chance there is a knitters' group connected to your local library? That was the original nexus of our group here.
@@marshawoods2634 thanks Marsha, my US geography is slowly improving thanks to online connections (you guys have soo many states to remember and how they all fit together). Great idea about the library - I'll look into it.
I love all your blanket knits! I want to start a big blanket project too that I can chip away over the next year! Looking forward to seeing all the lovely patches you're going to make! 🇦🇺
Thanks Ash. Do you think you’ll do the Peace by Piece blanket too?
@@yarnaboutyarn I would love to but I have no patience for colour work haha
Yeah let’s see how much patience I have 🤣🤣
I could not find the flag emoji but I am from the USA. I started watching you during the Stephen West MKAL and enjoy seeing what other people are currently knitting. I love finding knitting podcasts in other countries to see what the knitting is like over the world. I didn't think so many people outside the USA would participate in the Stephen West MKAL but I was shocked by just how many knitting podcasts were documenting their progress in Europe, South America, Australia and Japan. I would love to see your current wips and yarn stash. Are there any fiber festivals that you go to in Australia and any famous designers there that you love knitting? Are there any Australian knitting podcasts that you love to watch? I recently found Two Purls in a Pod (I think they are Australian) and I also found Knitty Mel from the MKAL as well. She has not posted since clue 3.
Hello thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. It’s amazing just how many people around the world are knitting on the same project at the same time during the MKAL isn’t it. I guess the most well known Aussie designer I can think of at the moment would be Ambah O’Brien - I don’t knit much of her stuff anymore as she does a lot of shawls. Oge designs does baby and children’s wear. I’ll have to do a list of Aussie podcasters - thanks for the idea
I hadn't heard of Two Purls in a Pod so thank you for mentioning them
Thanks for talking about the Arne & Carlos KAL. I'll use this as an excuse to visit Morris & Sons next week while travelling for work 😆🇦🇺
Are you going with traditional red, white and green? I’m wondering whether to mix it up a bit
@@yarnaboutyarn if I can get the colours they suggest I'll go traditional, otherwise will have to mix it up a bit, which could be fun. There's a really nice dark blue in that yarn.
@@illiamw so you'll be using the recommended yarn?
@@yarnaboutyarn I'd like to if possible
I'm from the Pacific Northwest, USA and I did find you because of the MKAL.
I hope you still find the content enjoyable? Is it starting to feel like winter where you are? Will you get snow?
Yes, I did. The leaves are just about all off the trees and it is starting to get pretty cold. We are still lacking the rain we should be getting. We generally get a little snow every year and a few silver thaws. @@yarnaboutyarn
Australia 🇦🇺- Melbourne
Thanks Anna! Nice to have you here, hope you enjoy what I do
@@yarnaboutyarn always a pleasure seeing your projects. The peace for piece Blanket will one day be on my to do list. It looks amazing.
Let me know if/when you start it. I'm hoping I can get a block or two done every week to keep the momentum going.
Hi Christine! Just discovered your TH-cam channel. So good to see what you've been working on. That fairisle blanket is amazing. Looking forward to your next podcast! ❤ Tamantha
Hi Tamantha, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I'm thinking I should join the Spinners and Weavers to get some help with spinning. Probably not much point this late in the year do you think? - when do you start in the new year?
@@yarnaboutyarn We'd love to have you join us! But you're right, this Friday is our Xmas party, then we're not back until the 3rd Friday in January. I think it's the 19th if memory serves.
Sounds good! I'll get in touch closer to the date for some details.
Christine, your Geogradient shawl looks nice. Mine I shelved. Your colors are lovely! You were smart to use stash yarn!!! Over the past 3 years, I've used/organized and given away or used up almost all of my stash yarn. I did a similar system that you are using, by organizing yarn by weight of yarn, keeping an inventory on my computer, and including location. I now have very little stash yarn left, but I have quite a bit of spinning fiber. Guess I should now get to work on that, huh?
Thanks. I'm glad you haven't felt pressured to continue the MKAL. Congrats on using most of your stash - I don't know if I'll ever get to that stage
@@yarnaboutyarn Well, Christine, it took me over 3 years of ruthless inventorying and didn't buy yarn for a while. That's one reason I started weaving - to use a lot of my knitting yarns and incorporate them into my pieces. I also gave away, a lot of it that no longer fit my knitting goals. I still have a lot of fiber though in stash - gah!!!! Now to start whittling that down.
Nice spinning wheel. I haven't named mine but I think of it as "my precious". ;)
Love it! What kind of wheel do you have? Do you spin much?
I have a Spinolution Pollywag, which I love. I generally spin every day for between 30mins to 90mis, though during Geogradient there were a lot of days skipped in order to try to stay on schedule. @@yarnaboutyarn
Those Spinolution wheels are so lovely. I need to get into a daily routine, I have a small fibre advent coming that will help with that.
Very cute baby knits 😊 I like your Spinning Wheel too matches in well with your loom. Thanks again for sharing 🙂
Thank you! 😊
