Aurora Symphony: A Dance of Light | Northern Lights #timelapse
This one is a little different than my usual video, but it was so beautiful, I just had to share it!
I live off grid on Drummond Island in Northern Michigan, and because of our Sun being at Solar Maximum, we have been getting some gorgeous aurora shows. This is a timelapse of 886 still photos taken over the course of about 5 hours.
I hope you enjoy!!

Photographing the Joyce L VanEnkevort | Articulated Tug with the Great Lakes Trader | Drone Flyover
มุมมอง 4573 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Joyce L. VanEnkevort is a tug/barge combination vessel used on the Great Lakes. It operates as an articulated tug and barge (ATB), meaning the tug and barge are physically connected to function as a single unit. The Joyce L. VanEnkevort serves as the tug, while the Great Lakes Trader is the associated barge. Today we toss the drone into the air and see her while loading up on Dolomite at th...
Drummond Island Quarry | Flyover of the Saginaw - Great Lakes Freighter Nighttime Loading Session
มุมมอง 5654 หลายเดือนก่อน
Late one evening I was out hunting the Northern Lights. I was close enough to the quarry to hear the Saginaw was still loading at the quarry dock. I decided to run over and toss the drone into the air and see if I could get some good footage of the ship loading up on dolomite. This is my first try at night photography with the drone, and I’m really happy with the results! Make sure to like, com...

Mark W. Barker Loading at Drummond Island - with the Saginaw & Drummond Islander IV Ferry
มุมมอง 5064 หลายเดือนก่อน
8-25-24 | Drummond Island, Michigan The Mark W. Barker is a rare stop at this dolomite quarry, so I knew I had to take advantage. When I arrived at the docks, the channel was very busy! While filming the Barker, the Saginaw was entering the bay to drop anchor to wait for an open spot at the quarry. Meanwhile, the Drummond Islander IV ferry was making its rounds bringing people to and from the i...
Mama Bear & Cub - A Unique Look into a Black Bear Family on Drummond Island
มุมมอง 3505 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's crucial not to portray bears as menacing or dangerous. I wanted to make it clear that in my last video, I didn't capture an angry bear; I had mistakenly left a bird feeder too close to my front door. A mother bear, scavenging for her cub hiding nearby appeared more aggressive than usual. It was surely an exhilarating moment! I don't believe she would have attacked even if she had gotten in...

This was by far the scariest bear encounter I have had! It was a gorgeous Friday afternoon and the first day that I was able to open all the windows and doors to let in the forest air. I've often wondered what I might do if a bear came by while my exterior door was open, and just a screen-door between me and the critters outside! Well, it never crossed my mind what could happen simply because o...

I decided to try something different with freighter photography videos. In most cases it's not just a 'point-and-shoot' fleeting moment and the photo is done. It takes quite a bit of planning and a lot of work to try and get that perfect shot! Let me know what you think of doing this ride-along with me, if it's received well, I'll keep doing them!! And as always, for those with a shorter attent...
Invitation aboard the Arthur M Anderson Great Lakes Freighter | Part 2: Full Video Walkthrough

I've been so excited to release this video! This was a difficult one to edit properly so it took me a little longer than I had hoped. It's the Anderson after all, I wanted it perfect! The whole experience was so sudden an unexpected, I wasn't really prepared. In the end, I decided not to bring my camera gear with me, and as a photographer, this was a painful decision. Black Bears and Learning to Coexist | Off the Grid RV Living

My favorite part of living off grid is sharing space with the forest critters. But when it comes to black bears, it took a lot of adjustment. I'm in their house, not the other way around. I try to make as little impact on them as I can so they can go on living without human interaction. Sometimes though, you have to just sit back and enjoy the show when they come around for a visit! Sharing My Home With the Deer | Off The Grid on Drummond Island

What a wild couple of weeks!! It's not typical for the deer to behave this way, and I still don't why they became so relaxed around me. I guess I'm officially one of them now!! They hung around for a few weeks like this, and at one point they even let me walk among the herd wit...

I'm sure the tour I just saw doesn't compare with actually being there, but I was happy to see it. I kept thinking, did the Edmond Fitzgerald look like this too? I hope someday to see one of these in person. I noticed when they were at one end of the Anderson, it was hard to see the other end. I mostly saw a lot of length between the two ends.

I was thinking of Captain Bernie Cooper when I saw this, sitting in the pilot house on that fateful night. I thought I was almost walking through the Edmund Fitzgerald, the ships were very similiar, it's almost unbelievable that she foundered, when I saw how big and strong the ships looks. It tells you of the power of Lake Superior. In a odd way, this video is heart breaking, but thank you so much for showing us the ship. God Bless and Keep Safe all who said the Great Lakes.

Thanks so much for both parts 1 and 2 of this video. I've always been a fan of the Great Lakes fleets, especially the Pittsburgh Steamship Division of US Steel and of the three built in about 1952, the Anderson, Cason J. Callowary and Philip R. Clarke. I'm a year older than the Anderson, and I've never seen it up close like this. I think you (and the Captain) have made a number of us very happy with this upload.
