Shoe list updates June 2024
มุมมอง 1.5K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Listen to Lori describe the few changes we've made as we update the 2024 Hruska Clinic Shoe List. The Brooks Ghost 16 and ASICS Kayano 31 are staying on the list and are as good if not better than their predecessor shoes, however the New Balance 860 v14 is now too scooped in the back and makes heel referencing challenging which can negatively impact a PRI program. Let us know what you think!

Hello. im wondering if Brooks Brooks Glycerin StealthFit 21 Running Shoes - AW24 is on the recommended list as it a version of the glycerin 21. Thanks
Does the kayano 30 and 31 one have same qualities? Can i wear 30 instead of 31?
How do you get someone to blow up the balloon if they are too weak to blow it up initially??
I just watched this video and I appreciate the information that you gave. I have been wearing Brooks Dyad for years. I wear them all day long. I have a high instep and high arch as well as major back issues and chronic acilles tendonitis. The tendonitis I can abate by doing stretching before my walks. I wear custom orthodics. I have been buying Brooks Dyad's wherever I can find them ever since they stopped making them. I agree with your review about the Brooks Ghost Max. I cannot do a 'rocker' type shoe. Is there any shoe you can recommend that might work for me? I have tried the Brooks Adrenaline which make my ankles ache. I also tried the Propet Ultra Athletic, my feet were swimming in. (They were way too wide all over). I would appreciate any input you can offer. Thank you and blessings!
Thanks for reaching out and watching. We have struggled to match the Brooks Dyad for sure. While the Brooks Ghost Max 1 (in this video) was a poor rocker shoe, the Brooks Ghost Max 2 is a much better representation of a shoe we like. Not quite what the Dyad was, but worth a try. I have had a few people (not all) who loved their Dyads find the newer ASICS cumulus 26 to be helpful. If you like a little softer feel the Kayano 31 was a pretty good sensory feeling shoe as well (much more control than the Dyad tho). happy hunting!
@@HruskaClinic Thank you so very much for responding so quickly to me!! I will look at the shoes you suggested. Blessings to you!
De Florence shoes?
If there are severe bite issues, do you also integrate orthodontic treatment (e.g. braces) in your approach or only splints?
IN the case of significant malocclusion there will more than likely need to be some orthodontic treatment utilized. the question is when is it appropriate to start and how to manage the neck position as someone goes through orthodontic treatment. OFten we will start with an oral orthotic to assist in helping someone feel better or get into a more neutral position prior to initiating orthodontia. Each case is unique.
Managing neck position during orthodontic treatment - could that mean fitting a splint to someone with braces? I talked with Jason almost three years ago and started orthodontic treatment after that. The progress is very slow though, and I am looking for a way to feel better before my bite is fully fixed. Thanks for the reply!
So helpful you are amazing thank you :)
Plz open your clinic in india also
How does the Brooks Beast compare with the Dyad?
The Dyad is a neutral shoe without a lot of medial arch control for people with average to high arches. The Beast is a maximal control shoe for people who over pronate
@hruskaclinic Would the New Balance Women's Fresh Foam X 860V13 running shoe be ok for someone with orthotics and a tendency to over supinate the arch?
Don't see why not, but you'd have to try it to see how it works for you.
Thoughts on walking sticks?
Another question about toe box. I read your other reply. I need a wide toe box to reduce Morton’s neuroma pain. I have narrow heels. Going to a wide shoe makes it sloppy on my heal even if trying to use a runners loop. The Altras fit that part well but now I understand the support issue on the heel. I also have some Topo shoes Ultrafly 4 stability shoe 5mm drop, same wide toe box kinda between the altra original widest and the altra regular wide toe box, that seem to have the stiffer heel cup. Have you seen those? I am working with a PT currently, years of postural issues primarily due to hyper mobility that have my entire body wonky, in pain, and a fused like high arch for accommodation. I need to feel the ground. I know you can’t check out 100s of shoes but could the Topo be a candidate for the person that needs a wide toe box to reduce neuroma pain, has a narrow heel, and fits the 3 point criteria? Searching for a shoe……i do work for a store that sells shoes and outfits gear for outdoor activities, and I can’t wait to look at those shoes with a new criteria for myself, thank you.
If the shoe fits the criteria that we look at for stability from the calcaneus and also fist the needs you have for your specific foot (neuroma) we would have no issues with it. (Ideally you should be checked to make sure you are PRI neutral with it in but if that is not possible you'd go off of the qualities and how you feel) We love when people take some self control over this and use the information and apply it to their own situation. That's really why we want to put the list out. Not to give people limitations on what shoes they can buy but give them an ability to make better decisions for themselves!
Can you do some reveiws on famous brand shoes such as nike adidas and other ?
How about Columbia Newton Ridge? Was looking at it on Amazon
I've tried to replace my Dyads with Adrenalines. I now wake up in the morning with excrutiating right hip pain, and have gained a new pain in my right forefoot. I'm desperate for a sneaker that does the same job as Dyads but I'm at a loss. Any advice most welcome.
Try the Brooks Ghost Max 2. It is a much better representation of the Dads then the Ghost Max 1 which this video is about. Not as good as the OG Dyads, but if you are struggling with the Adrenalines (which are more stable aka restrictive) the Ghost Max 2 or the original Ghosts may be a better choice.
Thanks! I'll give the Ghost Max 2 a try. I actually find the Adrenalines a bit too wobbly/marshmallowy compared to Dyads, which have always felt very stable and secure.
Thanks! I'll give the Ghost Max 2 a try. I actually find the Adrenalines a bit too wobbly/marshmallowy compared to Dyads, which have always felt very firm, stable and secure.

This video flat out lies to people. One of the worst videos out there, its clearly a marketing tool for their for-profit partnerships. On the topic of posture the developers of this video should be ashamed. None of those shoes have internal arches. Promoting high drop, with literally zero industry research showing positive results and you seem to purposely omit the positive literature. Walking mechanics are not the same as running, absolutely wrong, wrong gate, wrong landing pattern, wrong internal mechanics, wrong literally everything. The NB 880 is not a zero drop, not even close, youre objectively wrong there. Speaking like a low drop is to be avoided, while again you take the opportunity to omit the positive findings. Recommending a heavy artificial heel counter for seemingly everyone, wrong, bigtime. Talking about the volume of the internal last and fitting maybe a professional insert, while showing us an outsole, the two have nothing related in terms of internal volume. Using a heavy cushioned cumulous to communicate the benefits of retraining ankle mobility, sensitivity and balance... if you have any professional license it should be taken away. Your recommendations highlight to limit their plantar sensitivity and proprioception as if thats a positive feature, entirely wrong, for almost all use cases. You got it right that ON's are garbage, True for many reasons. Not a single shoe on that list should be recommended to any friend or family member that anyone cares about.
You obviously have a strong opinion about shoes, which is your right and that is totally fine. However, you also obviously do not understand anything about the science of Postural Restoration and why we are looking at shoes and recommending shoes the way we do. TETO
Curious about your thoughts on minimal type shoes (Birkenstock, Crocs,, etc) for just around the house or daily living (not running or exercise walking)?
The Asics GT2000 13 is out now. Any thoughts?
Once we get our hands on it we will let you know!
@@HruskaClinic thank you! Have you ever tested the Asics Dynablast? Just wondering your thoughts on it.
Hi there, on the shoe list it has a category for "high arch" does that mean the shoe is good for people with a high arch, or that the shoe itself has a high arch support? Anyone know??
That category we recommend for people with a high arched foot who need help learning to repronate their foot. (so less arch support in the shoe)
@@HruskaClinicthank you 😊
OH NO! I just went to order some more Brooks Dyads and found out about them being discontinued. I have been wearing them for almost 23 years upon advice of my (now retired) podiatrist after hallux limitus surgery on my big toe. I can't count how many times other Brooks Dyad wearers point at my shoes and say, "Ankle issues?" "Foot issues?" etc.... Thanks for this informative video. We all need to write to Brooks and complain!!!! I would definitely be a patient of your clinic but it looks like a 1,700 mile drive from my west coast home..... :(
Just wondering, what do you think of the footwear that OrthoFeet sell? Any good? Thanks!
Personally I was intrigued with the adjustable insoles that come with the Orthofeet shoes. I have had a few older ladies use them. The shoes (that I have seen) are just ok. Decent (not terrible but not great) heel counters. So for the right individual (particularly the older population) they can do alright. As with all brands there are some models that are better than others so take each shoe and examine it for qualities that help your patients. And above all else test your patients out in them.
@@HruskaClinic Thank you for your time and effort in replying to my post and for your shoe list in general! I am not a PT. I am a PT patient. From my experience wearing OrthoFeet footwear, I agree with your neutral rating and statement that: “As with all brands there are some models that are better than others…”. I purchased one model that I liked very much and purchased more of and another model that I did not care for and returned. By the way, I am an older patient, and my kids definitely let me know that - at least the specific model that I wear - is definitely not in style.
Why would athletes need more of left abs?
Thank you Lori.
I've been wearing the dyads for over 10 years and now I'm just stuck. Glyercins and adrenalin do not work for me (actually caused bunions) and running stores always want to put me in hokas. I have wide feet and can never seem to find the asics in my size.
Asics are such a pain to find. The only luck I had was I live an hour away from an Asics outlet so I could try them on.
A few basic questions, it doesn’t appear your concernedabout to box size? These shoes all seem to have narrow toe boxes? You say that the mechanics of walking are the same as running?? do you not recommend a mid foot to 4 foot contact or do you encourage heel striking with running? And lastly, what are your feelings on zero drop sole? quite popular these days it and it looks like you’re preferences is more towards the higher heel drop type sole? Thanks
What is ideal mam ? Left up and right down..... is our exercise ?
Doctors of Running recommended me Saucony Echelon 9 and Brooks's Ghost Max 2 (this one not yet available) to replace the Dyad

Thank you for video! Amazing! What about Asics Gel-Kayano 14 and barefoots?
Wore the Kayano 30 for about a month or so, loved it, but quickly got better and out grew it, so went to the GT 2000 v12, which was another amazing shoe from asics, able to feel more ground than the kayano, but have also improved in my feet and outgrew that one as well in about two months. Going to give the Dyad 11 a shot for ground sense and if that doeasnt work, possibly the ghost 16. Right arch specifically has been dramatically improving and in the process, i didnt need that medial support on the left and it was causing more harm than good
Did the GT2000 feel stiff to you? They feel stiff around the ankle and wonder if they will soften up
Lori I’m loving my new Kayanos from the shoe list. My socks have a tendency to shift downwards. Basically, the heel portion eats my socks. I’m wearing standard ankle socks. Not the low cut type. How do I prevent that
Great point about shoes following Hokas. I recently purchased Altra torin 7 and in less 30 days, I was finding myself leaning back, increase pelvic pain, with forward head posture developing pretty quickly. Altras that are coming out with unstable shoes. You feel unstable, rigid toe box,and leaning back a lot.
We have looked at the Altras and a few years back they had a few that had decent heel counters (the ProVision and the Paradigm were the best). Unfortunately the Torin was never a good shoe. The toe box is great for those with wider feet, however we found that a lot of people who struggle to find their heels on the ground struggle even more with the zero drop shoe (it functions a lot like the rocker heel so prominent now esp with the Hokas). However some really found it very helpful to get their heels down. In general, the Altras can be good for some people, but we had enough issues with them that we can't recommend them on our list and a general rule. Thanks for asking....
Lori, I was wearing Altra Torin 7 shoes for 30 days, and felt unstable. So I decided to try on Brooks Ghost 16, from hruska shoe list. I feel more ankle stability, but myleft si joint discomfort has increased. Can you provide feedback 🙏🏽
Did you figure it out?
Lori has there ever been a review on Altra shoes? I’m curious for any client feedback. Especially, relating to pelvic discomfort.✌🏽thank you
hi! i have a question. i am fleet feet, which shoes recommend? NB 860 V14, Asics GT 2000-12, Saucony tempus, Nike Structure 25. currently im 88kg - 182cm. thanks for the advice
Beautiful, thank you..
So… On inhale we should be focused On exhale more relaxed? But how if you should feel your abs engaged ?
I bought the Asics GT 2000 a few weeks ago after seeing your list and they've been amazing for me! I tried on nearly every shoe on the list (plus some more that the Fleet Feet guy grabbed me since I didn't want to be rude) and it's the only shoe that made me feel stable and supported. I've been wearing solely barefoot shoes for about 6 years and the GT 2000 is perfect for giving me more support without making me feel like I'm on stilts or being pushed around.
Glad to hear it! Its great when you find 'your' shoe!
Awesom Lori Great video as usual
Why do some brook ghost 16 not have the extra layer? Mine also say nitrogen injected?
The Ghost Max doesn't have it

Hi Lori, Thanks for the reference, and informative video I have a high arch neutral foot. Based on your recommendation, I've tested couple of shoes. But I got confused about 4 points 1. you recommended in this video "Hruska Clinic Shoe List 2023 updates" the "GEL-CUMULUS 24", and in this video the "GEL-CUMULUS 26", so which one is better if I find both? 2. You recommended "Kayano 31" but I see it in the cautioned category. 3. If I feel very comfortable in both "GEL-CUMULUS 26" and "Kyano 31" how to decide between them? 4. Will stable shoes can ruin my normal shoes because of the stability added to it?
Every year the shoes change. The GEL Cumulus 24 was a good shoe and recommended. THE next year the Cumulus 25 was not recommended and this years version the 26 is back on the list. They are different. some like the 24 better, some the 26 better. The Kayano 30 and 31 are both good shoes but offer more arch support than the Cumulus. Depends on what you need, but both are good. The best way to know which shoe is best for you is for you to try it on and have someone trained in PRI assess your objective tests to see. Otherwise you have to go off what works best fro you specifically..I don't understand your question 4. One shoe will not ruin another shoe.
@@HruskaClinic appreciate you time answering my questions. If my foot is neutral with high arch without supination, if I feel Kayano 31 is more comfortable, will using stabilised shoes can harm my feet on the long run and change it to flat arch? I don't have PRI practitioner around :(
@@hazemhemied3293 No the main way I could see you creating "harm" to your feet would be running without enough support (like the old barefoot shoes on hard concrete). No worries with more comfort and support.
All tapered toe box fitness fashion shoes with elevated heels and cushioning meant for running. This is pretty confusing.
Just reviewing this again- so much good information as always, thank you, Lori! I love how excited you get about the shoes :)
Amazing video, thank you. Which model would you suggest for somebody who has flat feet (pronation problem)? I have been using Brooks glycerin for years. However I tried recently in a shop both the Glycerin 21 and the Asics Gel Kayano 30: I had the impression that the Kayano was giving me more arch support but, like I said, I tried it in a shop so it's hard to say what happens when I walk or run. Also I sometimes wear orthotics so this makes the choice more complicated. And I worried about the huge drop both models have since I heard is not so good for the foot. I hope to hear some kind advice.
I was wondering if you have tried out the Asics Kayano 31's as opposed to the 30's? I am trying to choose between Saucony Echelon 9 and Asics Kayano 31 but I am not sure which to go for. The fact that Asics Kayano 30's are on your list makes me lean towards the 31's
Philip we just got to see the Kayano 31s this past week and we approve. Its a great shoe. The saucony brand has tended to not be supportive enough over the last few years, so between the 2 I'd go with the Kayano 30 or 31
