I use my Penn Fathom 300 bass level wind on a 9' ugly stik 10-20 casting rod. 275.00 reel, cheap 80.00 rod. I get looks when I launch past surf perch people with stiff spin rods. Oregon beach people will not try a conventional set up, most of them can't seem to master the technique. I enjoy your videos.

Ohhh noo, getting caught with your bird nest out in the open in public for everyone to see! That can definitely be quite embarrassing! I've had it happen a time or two myself, especially when intoxified. Ya just gotta try to put it behind you and move on. If it's really bad you might want to not visit the pier for a while to let things die down and hopefully be forgotten. However, if they are good people and friends they will probably be understanding and offer you support in your lowest moments, as I'm sure it's probably happened to them before too.

j-braid X4 or X8 and Momoi diamond braid are better than good 'ol power pro.. spyderwire is just as good if not better than power pro.

Been using reaction tackle for the last 4 or 5 years and never had a problem, I have been snagged up with 25lb and broke the 30lb leader before the braid, even broke a 50lb swivel pulling on a snag

Sorry to make it worse for you 😅 can I also point out you have the handle on the wrong side of the reel? Sure, you may prefer using your right hand to wind it, but it makes no sense because you cast from your right shoulder - meaning once you have casted, you have to switch your hands around before you can reel.

Nice video. I am not spending 500.00 as u suggested. I am looking at the Diawa Elite have you tried it? Also, the SV is suppose to have more control and less back lash. I think that is why you thought it was stiff.

I second the recommendation for Sufix 832. I’ve also found Kastking line to be absolute crap. It’s the only line that has backlashed on me on a spinning reel. I had 20 pound Kastking braid on a cheap Abu Garcia Black Max reel and it was constant backlash. I had the guy who owns my local tackle shop give it a try and he too could hardly get it to cast without backlash. I bought Sufix 832 from him and now the reel works ok, not as well as my better ones by Lews or Shimano.

Bro of cause u brock de rod it design spinning spec.is not spec over head cast for conventional multplier.

I recommend a trigger to help with grip during casting, it will get your hands away from the gearbox. Check ebay for options.

seems your version of "distance" casting is very different to ours "uk" in uk a long cast is about 260m 280m not 140m 😂

Been casting my TLD15's for a while. No issues. I use them for freshwater trophy catfishing.

PP, J-Braid and Sufiz 832 are absolutely awesome. Though the RT is much better value for money, given how many reels I have. Only thing about RT is that it’s much thicker (lb test considered), which compromises casting distance. It also fades A LOT quicker than the “premium” braids.

Use Winn Grip Fishing Tape. A ton nicer feeling than electrical tape.

im not sure if you figured this out yet but the clicker can be turned off by sliding the black knob located on the side where you took out the screws from. also, there are left handed version of these reels which could help you from having all of those issues you just mentioned.

I just converted a Mitchell 302 and have a Penn 704 on deck. When I spot a kit for a Penn 710 I'm going to grab it. I beach cast in Puget Sound for salmon using a 12 foot rod, 2 to 3 ounce darts, and 10 pound test in the 710.

Just bought the same rod and paired it with a Piscifun Alijoz reel w. power handle. With sale prices the whole slow pitch outfit, including line, came to about $200. Much lower than what many think it costs to get into that game. Can't wait to try it out. The thing to remember is that you fight the fish with the reel, not the rod, eith slow pitch. Not so keen to do it anymore but I used to cast a tld25 with larger lures usually 150-400g or rigged dead bait’s and larger live bait’s off the headlands and breakwaters, I found out the hard way to wet the spool first! A weekend casting leaving me with not much of a thumbprint And so had the dumb idea one day to use a piece of tyre inner tube as a thumb protector but that dramatically failed!,the added friction causing the spool to grab my thumb and jam it tight between the top crossbar and the line with a feeling not unlike hitting it with a hammer! As stated in comments below Always thumb the spool and not the line unless you have braid!
