GM really screwed up with those tacky plastic inserts front and back, some 5-mph collision nonsense demanded by the Feds. Once the plastic pieces fall apart, the car's image takes a major hit. I'd find a metal fab specialist to fill in the gaps.
Very nice machine, I just picked up a 2000 335 Sportsman. Only 1700 miles on it.almost show room new! Warren 2500 lb winch.
Love that big boat!👍
How are you getting the bike on and off the bed? I am looking at one of these for the express purpose of hauling bikes.
Just used two 6 foot 2x8s. Walked up one while the bike goes up the other.
Brother, its the other way around. The Subaru being a 4cyl is going to be at higher rpms to accomplish the same torque that its counterparts would be with a 3cyl. Idk why everyone always thinks u get more torque sooner when its the opposite. Less cylinders = more torque alot sooner. More cylinders = higher rpms for said torque
I’m just talking low end torque, like off idle. Having driven both 3 cylinder k-trucks can confirm that the 4 cylinder firing order is more stable and gives more torque at super low rpm since it’s not relying on crank counter weight to make that torque down low, just firing more regularly. Was smooth and easy to crawl around the property in, unlike the 3 cylinder in the same environment. You’re not wrong that peak torque on a three cylinder will come in lower than a comparable 4 cylinder generally, just not relevant for my needs of the truck. I’ll admit I was way off on my rpm examples though hahahaha.
@hylandshire all good brother. I love these trucks, but i always hear the misconception about 4cyl. vs 3cyl. With Same displacement engine, 3cyl will 100% give u more torque at a lower rpm. But the 4cyl definitely has its advantages also. For ex. Its going to do better at higher speeds. Anyways, 1st time i ever say anything about this topic. Hope it helps someone out there make the decision that fits them best. Cool videos bro.
The Polaris quads prior to these were not expensive, and actually were much cheaper than their Japanese competitors.
In the early days (1988 example) Polaris msrp was generally comparable to Japanese models, but for what you were getting (loud 2-stroke and chain drive, poor quality) they were viewed as expensive. Their wholesale margins were also terrible for dealers (high made in USA production costs) so many dealers opted out of selling them. In 88 Polaris petitioned the International Trade Commission to put tariffs on Kawasaki and Suzuki essentially saying they couldn’t compete. The commission found that their products were not comparable enough (not worth the same) and no tariff was imposed. You’re right that in the mid 90s when Polaris models were priced less than Japanese imports (simply due to lack of demand) but the stigma of too expensive for what I’m getting remained. (Magnum 425 sold for 5499 in 1995 and Prairie 400 sold for 6200). The independent suspension and other upgrades plus good marketing of the 97 Sportsman turned the tide for Polaris and people started to see the value.
I started laughing when he said, but anyway back to why we’re here Neighbor guy just flying over
Leave it to you Americans and your stupid social media fads to take what was once an affordable well looked after used car and caused the prices to go astronomical so you can be part of the fad. First you did it with van conversions now you've done it with these
So, um.......................it's been 2 years, where's part 4?!!
😂 thanks for keeping me honest. It's long gone. Couldn't reconcile the 4wd not working...I think something broke internally in the trans. Went to a new home in VT. Hope he had more luck than me!
YES!!!!!!! We used to have a 1985 Dodge Colt Vista similar to this one when I was growing up, & I would give ANYTHING to have another one!!!!! Ours was Glacier Blue Metallic, 2WD, & an automatic. It also had a manually-tuned AM-FM stereo radio with no cassette deck. NOT a star on the track by ANY means, but..........let's just say that Glacier Blue Metallic was definitely the appropriate color for ours, as it DEFINITELY had glacier-like acceleration!!!!! 13:19.............the EXACT buzzer, too!!!! It was one of the few buzzers that DIDN'T scare the shit out of me as a kid.
I had a 2010 hemi with the tow package, the forward rake was exactly like yours here before the lift. Sitting one inch lower than the rear. I find it bizarre cause some other WKs are more balanced out, mine looked like the front end collapsed
How is the water heater working out?
Dislike
dropped mine last week as well. fun times!
The little truck that could! I should have mine by the end of next week.
So what happened to this Econoline?
It's back on the road! Still needs a lot of love but I drive it often in the Summer
@@hylandshirelove seeing these get back out on the road. The simplicity of those older Econolines is, at least to me, very desirable for low cost but cool rig. I’m currently looking for one to restore. These videos are very informative and inspiring. Great video
What's the engine in this beast?

I need to tackle the water pump on my CRD. Do you happen to know the PN for that grooved upper idler pulley? I ordered the only grooved one RockAuto had but it's not the correct size.
I don't remember off hand, but I did my ordering from IDParts. Great company in MA, diesel focused!
Have u lifted that truck ?
no it was just bigger wheels and tires
Digging the VW/Audi snowflake wheels. Have those on two of my kei-trucks as well!
💯💯💯
I found a beautiful 1997 in near mint condition 1 owner and he’s asking 2600. What do you think?
Go for it!
Is it carbureted? I would hope fuel injected doesn't have this problem 😅
I've been looking into one of these Sambars, on the gauge cluster what does the one on the right do? Shows all 4 wheels.
Ya that’s normal around where I live for the sambar . You could push it much harder Try 2 feet of snow that thing Ike’s driving a boat I’ll probably destroy it but it’s fun as hell . Just put in mt90 new plugs and 5w 30. Winter is coming here . I wish it had a floor heater My only bitch and the alternator is small . But it’s a nice little machine . I wish I could get a bigger lift . I use 24x12x8 8 ply .
My sportsman was nade in Canada (Eh') its a 2005 H.O.
Doing this repair as well, finally just got the turbo out :) My engine is also full of seeds; I've heard of whirlygigs before we also call them maple keys. Oak seeds are acorns, no? Just about to start removing fuel rails and intake manifolds :) Any advice on removing the swirl motor? Heard the flaps are very delicate.
I didn't remove the flaps, just epoxied the shafts so they stay open. Good luck! In hindsight over a year later, It's not all that bad!
Found myself a 1 owner 99 500 that I finally got spark back and today will be fuel and air can't wait to get it running and finished I love this atv. Was a family member that hasn't ran it in 6 years but now I'm the proud owner of a wonderful atv that I have had the pleasure of getting to know through research and working on it. Came with a polaris plow and a nice camo cover so stoked
In canada many bus lines have type bus.they sold bus like that train load yes.i was high school montreal quebec was serviceman summer break tough bus.the luggage under was big and for courier.the detroit diesel was tough winter months.😊
We have a 64 pickup and it has the heater box on the floor, the really annoying, huge box on the floor
Great video! I feel the same man! Rode one of these as a kid and ended up buying the same model last year! It’s very sentimental. Brings back so many good memories every time I look at it or take it for a ride it takes me back to my childhood.
These trucks are so handy especially if you own some property I have a 74 C-30 dump I paid 800 bucks for about 10 years ago Still use it regularly and still road worthy
Dig it all! Would love to see trucks like yours and a great meetup group like that Your girl did fantastic on her first drive, too! Very impressive for anyone's first time driving stick.
Amigo buena tarde donde puedo comprar uno y que precios tienen gracia su déjame saber
Needs some work
Looks like that was ex Public Service bus of NJ # G579. They restored G572 it looks perfect in the museum bus fleet now.
Yes you got it! Can't wait to get down there someday and put them side by side!
talk, talk,& more talking about a 6inch piece of rubber hose with a hole in it. so very boring.
You are so right :) Thank you for your amazing insights! Cheers
Quick question has NH changed the rules for these? It was you are not supposed to drive more than 25 miles from your home or business or on road that have more than a 35mph speed limit. Has this changed or do you not worry about it and if so have you ever been pulled over? I dont need to go on highways but both Lowes and HD are over 25 miles away and I would drive there anyway just wondering if its legal or not.
That was never "the rule" however before they were legally importing with the 25 year rule, some people were bringing them in as LSVs (low speed vehicles) and registering as such. This is a 25 year old "car" in the eyes of the feds and was imported as a on road passenger vehicle and in NH I registered with a regular passenger plate no problem. The whole LSV thing was really a work around for impatient people a few years back, and these are in violation anyway because they have a top speed far over 35mph. Cheers!
@@hylandshire Thanks for the info!
That’s real badasss
Engine sounds good!
the minute you showed the exhaust manifold I knew you were going to be chasing at least two of those bolts. Here - this should help you on your journey with it.. and please do post more videos on it! drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1HEGjmkAtLjLUEet76YMYuIazzJOGpwCw
Strapping your bike like that and bottoming out the suspension is not good for it.
Good thing you got an older one. Bean counters at Polaris got rid of: brush guards on drive shafts, latch on seat, glove box, aluminum oil reservoir replaced with cheap plastic, grease nipples, cheaper drive metals, I think, as many complain of wearing out drive train in 2500 miles. I was gonna buy a new one but after they cheapened it out, I decided I don't want a newer Polaris now. Got a used 2001 for 300 in great shape. Gonna get a new Suzuki King Quad. Bean counters have ruined a great product.
It sounds good! Nice wheel and tire combo. Cool Van it looks very familiar 😁😉👍
My Hijet fuel pump just crapped out. Symptom - the truck would intermittently die, presumably from fuel exhaustion. I noticed that it only happens when the fuel tank is less than half full. Sure enough, that's the level of the fuel pump so it's apparently gravity feeding through the fuel pump when the tank is full. I checked after driving it today (full tank so it ran well) and the fuel pump was hot to the touch so it's apparently stuck in the open position that allows fuel to flow through it. The stalled motor is overheating the fuel pump and that may be vaporizing the fuel and causing a vapor lock. I was going to replace it with a genuine Daihatsu part but my mini truck has an electric fuel pump near the fuel tank and the $111 fuel pump is apparently a mechanical fuel pump. I ordered a $12 universal fuel pump on Amazon.
Our Sambar has a quick change insert system that modifies the bed to carry a golf cart, garden tractor or ATV, another quick insert system mounts 2 fat tire bicycles, another insert system is for 2 - 12.5' kayaks. We don't ride motorcycles, but if we did, we would have a quick change insert system built for that. A 10' aluminum flat bottom boat would be a cinch to haul. With drop gates removed, the Sambar can transport our 60" Kubota 2 stage snow blower, or the 60' mower deck or the 54" tiller if and when they need to go into the shop for repairs. We use the bed as a work platform when pruning apple trees in the orchard, a moveable workbench when working on other vehicles and needing a clean flat place to put tools and parts. It serves as a gardener's bench, easily hosed off at any time. It can hold a cubic yard of soil or mulch, which pretty much means filling the whole bed level to the top edge of the drop gates. It effortlessly hauls 4' x 8' and 4' x 10' sheet and 2x framing materials. Bags of cement, sand, salt, fertilizer, stacks of bricks, blocks and pavers are at the perfect height for loading and offloading from a choice of three different sides. It's easy to get more than half a cord of firewood in the back if properly stacked and strapped. Really large flat screen TV's are not a problem, nor are washers, dryers, ranges, refrigerators and small to medium sized hot tubs. Because of the drop gates, the truck is easy to load from either side or from the rear with a tractor loader or forklift. We bought our Sambar in 2009 and it has been a hard worker ever since. It is excellent off road and in snow and ice. The supercharged engine makes it quite drivable on the freeway. It traverses steep, slippery, grassy slopes without leaving a trace. It is perfect for hauling large bundles of tree and shrub trimmings stacked higher than the top of the cab. The bed and gates are low enough that a wood chipper can blow the chips right into the bed. We treasure our Sambar's utility. It's a work truck. The only truck thing it can't do is tow stuff. The rear engine leaves no place to put a hitch and it has very little torque. We do drag a large, heavy duty plastic slider behind the truck which can be loaded with logs or tree sections ready for splitting, also very heavy stones, stones too heavy for the tractor loader can be rolled onto the slider and safely moved around over fairly level, grassy ground. It seems there is no end to the purposes one can dream up for a Sambar.
Should have heated the bolt not the head and touched it with paraffin wax. Would have been easier
I believe Suzuki had the first independent suspension. That is a nice atv. Great shape for the year.
I'm very happy with it!
Wow that sure is some beautiful country, great job on the video bro, I want a sambar so bad that I don't even care if it runs, just as long as I can get one. I would do anything you can think of for one. Maybe one day when the price comes down
Nice start on your Old look GM , I have a New look, a 1967 GM TDH-4519 city transit bus. That i live in full time in the high desert of New Mexico, I wish that I lived there and we could help each other with their bus
Amazing! Good for you man!
