Cork Traction Pad from Timber Surf Company, Review.
This is my unsponsored and objective review of the cork traction pad from Timbersurfco out of Santa Cruz California. The below link is not an affiliate link.
Timber Surf Company is run by Ryan Lynch who has developed some wood and foam hybrid boards, cork rails, and also makes hollow wood surfboards. He is the shaper that showed me how to do cork rails on my wood board build a couple years ago.
The cork traction pads are made locally in Santa Cruz out of bulk cork material. Currently they only come in one style without an arch support. This is the only week point in my opinion. They are way more environmentally friendly and look sick.

Classic Volkswagen Door Grab Handles. 1973 VW Bus Restoration Part 15.

We spent all winter driving our 1973 air-cooled VW Bus around without interior door grab handles. This meant, every time we wanted to close the door, we had to roll down the the window in order to have something to grab. Now that it is warm and summer time, we finally mounted some grab handles. I do have a graduate degree in composite materials, which gave me some unfounded confidence going into this repair. It also gave me a decent mechanical and materials background, which I try to share with a little engineering expla...

While attempting my first oil change on our 1973 Volkswagen Bus I over torqued one of the nuts and sheared off the threaded rod. This led me down a rabbit hole looking for a replacement stud, and I found this Mini Oil Sump kit by EMPI. It has a much better filter than the stock mesh screen, and also comes with replacement threaded rods. Links: EMPI Mini Sump: amzn.to/3W8yqED Castrol 20W-50 High...

👻 Happy Halloween
Great job! Any plans to update for the late model Beetle?
Hey Mr Willy, if I had a late model beetle I would 😅, but as of now probably not. It’s been months and I still haven’t finished the bus update on it. Hopefully by thanks giving then I can look into doing other Vw accessories.
I have a 72 type 2. I,m in the process of changing the bushing. How did you get the front shift rod slide back so easy in order to get off that nub?? Mine won't slide off the nub. Did you have to go further back and disconnect the other 8mm nut near the transmission?? I don't want to do that. Help!! Thx
There’s a slip joint about 3 feet back (at least on late bays) that has a square head set screw. Just loosen that and the front section can slide back. Just make sure to reset it at the same length.
@@callalilycollective I got it to work. It was stuck but as I worked on it, it slid back. Thank you
@@tompitt631 Nice, glad you figured it out!
Nice job man ❤
@@joaco000 thanks for checking it out 🤙
Spooktacular
Kooky or spooky
This might be my favourite thing to do in the summer months of the year but I have to say ITS FALL
Best waves in California are in fall and winter, so spooky season is surf season 🤙🤙🤙

Thanks pstreet 🤙🤙🤙🎃👻

Have you made this design public anywhere?
Hey Vanilladave, not yet, it needs some design tweaks still and I haven’t got back to it yet. Will post an update with a link once I make those changes.
I have a 1976 bus and I could use a cupholder. Would you have the STL available for this?
I am looking for a file. I was curious if you ever got one made or designed?
Hey Cochran I don’t have a public file ready yet. It has some design changes I need to make for a better fit. I’ll post an update with a link on this channel when it’s ready.
@@callalilycollective thank you, I really appreciate the update.
Purchased the same seat, waiting for arrival. Why did you cut it initially, says it fits late model bay's?
Cancel and order the Rusty Lee one from the UK. This one fits buses but involves a lot of work to get it to fit nicely, and even after the sitting position is uncomfortable. What I thought would be a weekend job took 3 weekends to cut it and weld it so it fit and functioned properly. It also has no instructions. So you’ll want to pay attention to how I have it assembled. Was a lot of trial and error.
Its already been shipped, sad thing is that the one you just mentioned is not that much more expensive. It says the max length is around 56" from what I remember, and I planned on having it the full length. Do you think I would still need to do the cutting and welding?
@@kimhawk5228 Yes, mine is full length in our 73. I welded because the self taping screws it includes were garbage, and I wanted it more stable. Also one of the feet was off, so I cut it and welded back to fit better. The seat is "good enough" if you can figure out how to make it work. It just takes a lot of work to make it work. Hopefully my video makes it a little easier from you, since mine was a lot of trial and error.
@@callalilycollective Thank you. Yes your video has been helpful, but honestly this thing is so confusing that I keep the video paused on each section just to figure out which direction most of the items go lol. No instructions in the box, but was able to print out the instructions from Just Kampers where CIP1 actually gets it from. Those instructions are pretty much trash as well, but it's something. Thank you for posting the video, although this may be more than I bargained for, we will see how it turns out.
@@kimhawk5228 good luck! There may be some photos from other's on thesamba.com that might be helpful. I never looked though, so just an assumption.
1 breakdown 😂
An almost flawless score 😅
Been itching to go on a good cruise!
@@thegreenmachine.77 just checked out your green bus, looks awesome. We just did our first non day trip with 175 miles. That’s a little when your top speed is 50mph 😅

Can I spray after eps board glass fiber and finish epoxy again?
@@pooh00020 yes, but the hot coat won’t bond as well. I usually do pin strips at that stage and never have had a problem. Water based spray paint like the one I used should no affect eps (but test it on a small piece first).
Nice !
Thanks Pstreet 🤙
Looks like my first build in1980, round and round we go.😊
Nice. Thanks for checking out my build. No matter the era a fish is always fun 🤙
Now how does it surf?
Surfs great. The front rails came out a little too boxy, but the rear rails are pretty dialed. Planes really quick and love it with keel fins. Much better on mushier take offs though. Usually take it out on chest high days.
Nice work, and after I'm curious can you just purchased the filter himself are need to purchased the complete kit again.
Hey Mars, they do sell replacement filters on eBay and Amazon for $15 to $20. The filter is also marketed as washable since it’s really just more of a finer metal mesh. This is really just a stop gap solution for me. I eventually plan to put a proper external oil filter on it.
@@callalilycollective Thank you For the reply and if i don't mistake in other video you create i saw you install a external oil filter. and I'm curious if you did a video on this one.
@@MarsGarage333 I have not installed an external oil filter. I plan to eventually do that, but have a lot of other projects I need to do first. There are a couple kits out there for it, but I have not done enough research to figure out which setup is best.
Nice review !

Nice job. Love the white panels 👍
Thanks P street. Took a lot of coats of vinyl paint to get them to that point. Who knew black was so hard to cover with white 😅
@@callalilycollective oh a repaint? I love that stuff and it's pretty durable
@@pstreetgarage7304 yep the previous owner had bought black panels that were never installed. I was going to buy new white ones until I saw the price tag. I think it was about $150 in vinyl upholstery rattle cans and a lot of coats get them fully covered. Really happy with how they’ve been holding up.

@@callalilycollective Could you pleeeease upload the files? I digging to print your Cupholder for a friend of mine 🙈
great vid! is the version 2 out yet?
Thanks for checking out the review. They are still in development on their Version 2.0, and that probably will not see the market until late 2024 or early 2025. I talked to the owner and they have made some minor improvements to the current one, but not enough to call it a version 2.
One day I will be able to do this !
We can only partially do it. Not all the windows seal, and there’s still plenty of rust spots to fix. So have to be careful with the hose aim and diligent with drying.
Can you make this a sound
I have no idea how to do that. I got the template and sound off of CapCut editing app.
