Got it! Well. Not only doing this job, but on this typewriter! Or very close. I am not loving the ribbons in the last few years, but the supply is slowly increasing, and I still have hope. Brand new ones straight from the sealed pack still don't seem to have much ink. But I am glad to have them at all. I like the very organized process we see here, and will try to carry it out directly. Should save a lot of fumbling!

How do you change the direction of the ribbon when it gets to the end on the Olivetti underwood 21?

Is each side of the spool supposed to have 1/2 the ribbon on it? Or is one side of the spool supposed to have most of the ribbon? My ribbon is black and red. Which goes on the top? Thx for any help provided.

i have the same typewriter. the spools seem to slip no matter how tight. and therefore the ribbon is loose and doesnt move across consistently.

great video, I have had one of these for awhile, bought at a thrift store after falling in love with its look, but have always had a hard time remembering how to center and lock the carraige. You solved that problem for me! many thanks.

Hey, I have a Consul typewriter, and anytime I type, after a few characters the ribbon starts getting loose. Thanks. :)

After following the instructions and changing the ribbon, the typewriter's ribbon carrier now doesn't get down when I type, ie I can't read what I'm typing... What have I done wrong?

how do you know which side the new ribbon is installed - does the full ribbon spool go on the left or right? (I don't have the original ribbon installed)

I just scored one in a goodwill secondhand shop for €15, serial nummber is NE6 so it's probably from august 1926. The lint in it still works and through your video and site I now know how to use it. So excited!

Hello London Typewriters, I recently bought a 1926's underwood typewriter. I love it ! But unfortunately, my typewriter doesn't work : more precisely, the roll doesn't work (the bar doesn't advance) I desesperately searched videos on youtube to understand why my roll doesn't want to move when I push a letter, but there is no video on this subject.
