This channel is intended for the discussion of all things music (particularly metal & rock/indie/alternative) as well as sci fi, horror and fantasy related books and films.
I love the idea of having the platform to share thoughts and feelings with a community of others who share said passions !

Christmas Signoff 2024! (Channel Roundup and Q&A)
*Decided to record another version of this hence the re-upload - I missed someone's question in the Q&A's - D'oh!*
It's time for the annual, traditional pre-xmas signoff! I reflect on the year gone, discuss some highlights on the channel and also offer some words of thanks too.
If you wish to skip to the Q&A part of the video, that starts at around 10:10

Fazerdaze 'Soft Power' Album Review (Another strong late 2024 release?)
มุมมอง 5421 วันที่ผ่านมา
Singer songwriter and producer Amelia Murray is back with her second album 'Soft Power' after a 7 year gap since debut 'Morningside'. Thematically, this album explores the complexities of womanhood, and musically incorporates more electronics and synth into her dreampop sound. You can download or buy the vinyl of the album via the link below: fazerdaze.bandcamp.com/album/soft-power
Opeth 'The Last Will and Testament' Album Review
มุมมอง 9628 วันที่ผ่านมา
Opeth return with their 14th studio album, the conceptual 'The Last Will and Testament'. Many are lauding this album and calling it a 'return to form'. I share my thoughts on this latest release, which sees the band telling a story about a wealthy patriarch, his last will for his family and the drama that ensues. Musically this derives from old and new eras of Opeth, the end result being someth...
Ten of My Favourite Things (Ranked!)

Poppy 'Negative Spaces' Album Review (Am I A New Fanboy?)

Poppy leans into heavier territories whilst still showcasing her ability to be a versatile artist. 'Negative Spaces' is a diverse record that offers something very different from last year's 'Zig'. This impassioned and hard-hitting album explores the difficulty of an identity struggle and finding self motivation. SEAR BLISS and IOTUNN are excellent
@@AUTOPSY666 for sure! 👍🤘
music is basically over since 15 years,i do it by myself
An album that reminded me of a certain time was The Fray's debut album How to Save a Life. It was April of 2007. I had just returned home from a road trip with my parents to Disneyland in Anaheim [where their NHL team the Ducks WON THE STANLEY CUP a couple months after]. On the 18th of April 2007, four days after I returned home from the trip, I had just finished cross-country as part of gym class and had gotten in the car when my mom informed me of the tragic news that my great-aunt Susy [my maternal grandfather's sister] had passed away the previous evening after a battle with cancer. Susy had been battling breast cancer and the cancer spread to her lungs and brain, resulting in her being diagnosed at the beginning of 2007 with glioblastoma, which ultimately killed her on April 17th. The title track on that Fray album was the song that got me through that tough time.
Thanks for sharing that @trollinginparadise1927 - the power of music is such that it can help us through some really tricky times
Good picks . I heard the last 2
Thanks Hector - that Stygian Rose track is so good, gets better every time I listen to it 🤘
@ I will listen to it
Good video, thanks for answering my question lad. 👍
@@Simon-vt1zp you're welcome!
Nice picks lad 👍
Good picks. I enjoyed the last Unleash the Archers album, but I think my favorite song from that album was Ghosts in the Mist, with Green & Glass as a close second.
Thanks dude. Those are really good ones too 👍
Subfire - Blood omen (Greece - Heavy metal) Nordic twilight - Nordic twilight (Finland - Melodic, symphonic, neoclassical, power metal, female vocals) Seventh Dimension - Of hope & ordeals (Sweden - prog metal)
This new album is a perfect one to chill out to. My joint number one album of 2024 , the other is by Zsela and I cannot prefer one over the other. All my favourite albums this year are by female artists or bands with female lead singers. Soft Power for me is a 10/10 album , I just love it so much !!!!!!!!
@neilearl3874 yeah it's a chill album - thanks I'll have to check out the Zsela too
@@thegreenman4925 Zsela - Big For You is a fabulous album , such a great voice , really interesting to listen to like a ear-worm. I grew up on David Sylvian and she reminds me a bit of him in that it is about the voice and hard to pin down what category or style of music it is , her songs are subtly sexy and romantic though.
Finally some love for Frozen Crown! I first discovered them a few years back through their first album, been following them since. I just love their sound and yes, consistency. Absolute blast to listen to!
@metallikat05 yeah I've been back through their albums and it's all good - last year's Call of the North was great 👍
@@thegreenman4925 Oh, for sure. I love all of their material. Whenever I listen to it, I just want to listen to it all. Just fantastic.

Always a pleasure to help you my friend.
Tom, thank you very much for answering questions, taking your time and being forthright! I was late to check your livestream, therefore watched it in recorded version😊
You're welcome! Thank you for the questions 🙂👍
Thanks for the list. My number one album was HAISEN MONOGATARI by the Taiwanese band Bloody Tyrant
You're welcome. I'll have to check out that album too.
Illumishade getting some love is great! They were one of the standout performances for me at this years ProgPower USA festival. Her vocals were insane, she could do anything and it all sounded amazing. Kudos to you also for having a power metal album be your album of the year!
I think Fabienne is a really underrated vocalist she's brilliant. Thanks for checking out the list! Yeah I've definitely been getting more into power metal lately 👍

I had random # 7
It’s my all time favorite PF album. Perfection in its entirety!❤❤❤❤❤
I want to see Nosferatu, no Moana 2 😂. I did see Dune part 2 very good film. I am watching Dune Prophecy series now on Max.
Yeah I'd like to see Nosferatu as well. Is it already out in Puerto Rico? It's coming out 1 January in UK.
@ I think xmas here
Nice one Tom, always pick up something to check out from your lists lad 👍
Awesome. Hope you find something you like here
Haven’t seen any of those. The first Gladiator is one of my dad’s favorite movies but I hadn’t heard great things about the sequel so I wasn’t interested. I did hear Dune 2 was great
As a spectacle, I think Gladiator 2 is great but flawed in other ways (e.g characters and plot). Dune 2 is well worth a look. Check out the top 2 here too if you get the chance.
Thanks Tom, couple I am interested in checking out here. Can I ask how much time you spend listening to music lad ? Cheers 👍
Thanks dude - I might just add that to my Q&As /roundup video and will answer in that :)
@ Ok Tom 👍, that’s cool lad.

@Hellenicheavymetal loved the Alcest too! Blood Incantation was great - I just thought it would be on a lot of other lists. Thanks for checking out the video 👍
I would have liked it if you had had nominated some of the best tracks from each album. It makes them easier to check out.
Thanks for the feedback. I do like to vary what I say about each album a little so as not to be too repetitive.
@ I understand but I don’t think naming your favourite tracks on an album really qualifies as repetitive. Most album reviewers do it . Maybe if you leave a link to any album reviews so we can check them out ?

A very polished video. You seem to be speaking with a lot more confidence lately. Cannot say that I have heard of many of these albums but I am sure many will be appearing on other peoples best of 2024 lists. My real surprise ( apart from the 80s pop albums) was that David Gilmour made it. Whilst technically very good I did find the album not much better than good background music.
Wow. Unleash the archer was one of my disappointing albums. A lot of ppl like that album. Cheers
Yeah I love that album. Still quite new to them. Really dig Apex too. I just watched your video and sounds like you know the band pretty well?
@ back in 2009 we did a small tour with them. They gave us a place to sleep in Vancouver. Now only Brittany and the drummer are in the band.
@@MetalNeverDieswithMarkA that sounds amazing! Small world.
I was also disappointed. However, it’s Unleash the Archers. While I believe “Abyss” was one of the best albums of the last 5 years period, “Phantoma” was not what I was expecting. I was hoping for something else, I suppose.
