A Ride in the Country
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 14 พ.ย. 2020
I was in my 50's when I got my first motorcycle. I live in the rural mid-west. I make videos to connect with other riders like me and to share the things I've learned and experienced along the way. I make occasional "how to" videos but mostly I take you along for "Rides in the Country." I have a Yamaha Zuma Scooter, a Honda CRF250L and a Royal Enfield Meteor 350
Return from Findlay | Royal Enfield Meteor 350
I recently took my first overnight motorcycle trip and rode further than I have before, riding 100 miles north of my home to Findlay Ohio. In this video, I ride back home from Findlay taking a different route to see more of the beautiful Ohio countryside. My Royal Enfield Meteor 350 performed admirably, and it was a beautiful day. Of course, the day wasn’t completely without anxiety as you will see. Enjoy another Ride in the Country.

First Overnight Motorcycle Trip
มุมมอง 157หลายเดือนก่อน
I made some Moto Goals at the beginning of 2024 and one of them was to go on an overnight trip on my Royal Enfield Meteor 350. I chose Findlay Ohio for three reasons: 1) it is about 100 miles from my home (achievable and measurable) 2) I can get there without using any interstates and in fact It’s pretty much the same road the whole way (Ohio State Route 68) and 3) I’ve driven this route in my ...
I went for a Ride with my Son
มุมมอง 217หลายเดือนก่อน
My son was home for Labor Day and we went for a ride together, He on my Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and I on my Honda CRF250L. We talked via Bluetooth quite a bit and we enjoyed a ride through some beautiful countryside. Not much talking, mostly the sights and sounds of a ride in the country.
Bike Update and BONUS OFF ROAD RIDE

Some of you may think I only have the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, but before that I had a Honda CRF250L and a Yamaha Zuma and I still do!!! In this video I give a brief update on all three and then take you with me on an Off Road Ride in Southern Ohio at Pike State Forest APV area. Some of you are curious about the Harbor Freight Hitch Carrier and I show loading and offloading.

Five Things I LOVE about my Royal Enfield Meteor 350
มุมมอง 3.1K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
I bought a 2023 Royal Enfield Meteor 350 about a month ago and I have ridden it 311 miles. It is time for the first service per the Owners Manual. It seems like a natural time to tell you the 5 things I love about this motorcycle so far. Some of them may surprise you!
I Rode a BMW GS 1200 and it was AWESOME!

My friend Scott (@scottrickord7086) is selling his 2013 BMW R 1200 GS and I happened to see it for sale. The BMW GS 1200 is a bike I think about a lot. Even before I rode, I would see one go by on the highway and think "if I ever got into riding motorcycles that is one I'd like to ride." I reached out to him to talk about it and he invited me to come up and go for a ride! I was excited but scar...
First Ride Impressions Royal Enfield Meteor 350
มุมมอง 6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
I recently purchased a Royal Enfield Meteor 350, having ridden a dual sport Honda CRF250L for about 4 years. This is my first ride since riding it home from the dealership and I just share my first impressions - things I like, things that are different from my Honda CRF250L and ask for my followers thoughts about my decision.
Installing a Quad Lock Handlebar Clamp Mount on my Royal Enfield Meteor 350
มุมมอง 6464 หลายเดือนก่อน
My Royal Enfield Meteor 350 didn't come equipped with the Tripper accessory (a navigation accessory). As I considered buying and installing one, I realized it was about the same cost to purchase a Quad Lock Handlebar Clamp Mount with the Quad Lock vibration dampener. Decided to go with the Quad Lock. In the video I get right to it and show you how I installed mine.

I bought a new 2023 Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and wanted to protect the engine so I also bought the Official Royal Enfield Sump Guard accessory. I rode it home from the dealer and immediately installed it. It was easy to install but was easier with a helper. The PDF instructions helped. I've been riding for about 5 years and it's time for another motorcycle. In my last video I told you what I was looking for and many of you gave me some good advice. In this video I reveal the new bike I purchased. Did my choice surprise you? Does it make sense? Watch the big reveal!
Which Bike Should I Get?

I have been riding motorcycles for about 5 years now and I've been thinking seriously about buying another bike. I have a 49cc Yamaha Zuma scooter that I started with, then after a year I moved up to a dual sport motorcycle (Honda CRF250L) which is a great first bike. Now, I'm looking for something different. I want a road oriented machine with a more comfortable seat. I'd like to buy new, but ...

Great run out Cliff. I love riding out on my Fireball Yellow😊 Wee Mark
thank you!
Good grief! I got a brand new blue meteor just like that 2 days ago, and the sump guard arrived yesterday! They're supposed to be very good at protecting not just the sump, but bottom of the engine.
I've been waiting for so long for the 250cc Bronzewing.
Looks like you had a great trip, Cliff! Like you said, most people in cars have somewhere to be while we just wanna cruise on our motorbikes. 😂
So true! Thanks for watching.
Ohio Northern. Loved this video… 😊
Hey man!! I’m so glad you saw it! I was thinking of you and your son as I rode by!
Love the bike!
Thanks man - me too!!! It's a great bike.
Did you noticed any dimension chages in pillion stock seat vs touring pillion seat ? ( Does it look broad than stock seat)
They seem to be pretty much the same. One thing I would say is my wife felt like she was "falling off the back" when she rode pillion and I'm planning to purchase the passenger backrest kit offered by Royal Enfield. I think this will help a lot.
@@arideinthecountry yes it will definitely help. I have a backrest on my meteor and my pillion says it's comfortable for the back but not happy with the pillion seat which is narrow in dimensions.
Thanks for the video and the PDF! Great work! Drive safe :)
Thanks, you too!
Thanks ! I just finished replacing the sprinkler on my Rally 300 and it is much better!I used your video suggestions ! Thanks
Glad it helped
Great video, straight to the point and the exact situation I am in
Glad I could help! Thanks
That’s a great little road to ride.
It sure is!
Nice view!
Thanks Man! 👍🏻
Looks fun! We need to ride sometime.
Just got a meteor 350 and I absolutely love it! I have a Harley lowrider s as well, but there’s something special about the meteor.
Couldn't agree more!
Enjoyed your video. I commented on another video of yours a while back. I also have a 2021 Meteor with just under 12,000 miles on it. I was born in Alliance Oh, but we moved back to my parents' home state of Iowa when I was like 2. Live in Texas now and miss seeing those corn fields. lol. My son and I was planning a trip from here to Iowa this month (October) but a couple of weeks ago a lady rear ended him on his Indian Scout 60 while he was sitting at a stop sign. So, his bike is in the shop getting repaired so we cancelled the trip which would have been about a 2000-mile round trip when it was all said and done. The longest overnight trip for me was from here in North Texas to central Texas to visit an old friend of mine around 200 miles one way. Like you I get a little nervous on some of those faster busier highways. I notice you don't have the Tripper navigation system on your Meteor. I had heard they don't have those on some of the newer bikes. What are you getting for gas mileage? I was getting anywhere from mid 70's to mid 80's mpg. I recently put on one of those DNA filters and I am now getting around 90 mpg. Also like the sound of it. You might want to check into that. Keep up the good work.
Hey man! Thanks for watching. Sorry about your son. I hope he’s ok. I’ve been getting mid 60’s on gas mileage but it’s still under 2,000 miles.
Does it reduce the seat height?
It does, but I don’t know how much
@@arideinthecountry ok thank you
I bought the same blue R E in June this year and i love everything about it , everything youve said is exactly how i feel about mine . Stay safe and enjoy 😉 🙏 From England 🇬🇧
Thanks for sharing your experience with the R E!!!
Thank you! Was able to get a 12v adapter installed on my 2013 CRF250L in short order thanks to your video.
Glad I could help
I enjoyed your video. I grew up in Western PA, just across the state line from Youngstown Ohio. I'm not real familiar with the area that you were in. But, you're right about all Ohio villages are sort of set up the same way. I hope you can take a ride when the leaves are changing more. I really miss that about living up that way. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! I’m planning a fall ride soon. The trees are behaving oddly because of the severe drought we’re in right now. Might not have the typical fall foliage. I’m wondering how you like your touring seat? I love mine. So glad I got it.
What a great tour through Small Town USA! I recommend Dietsch Brothers ice cream and dessert shop next time you are that way! Nice old fashioned ice cream and candy shop. The Meteor ☄️ is sounding great! Love the advice at the end; set small goals towards larger ones. I tend to have large goals and end up with analysis paralysis when trying to accomplish my large goals. We need to meetup for a ride soon, now that you know I do in fact ride on pavement 😂 P.s. I like the boot cam!
Thanks Chris! Good tip on Dietsch Brothers. I was hoping to stop at the Dairy Dream in Dunkirk but it was closed. I love the sound of the Meteor! We should ride together soon - on or off road- doesn’t matter to me 👍🏻
I would ride to that airport just to eat one of those cheeseburgers 🍔 😂😂 I'm like you, I can't stand tailgaters, especially on a motorcycle. I do the same thing, wave them on. That is one good-looking bike! A lot of time spent editing, and it paid off. Well done!
Thanks Benny!! You’re not gonna believe this… I’m showing the video to my wife and she tells me that the Airport Cafe is famous for their PIE!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?! Where was this information before I left!! I’m gonna have to go back for sure!!! 👍🏻
@@arideinthecountry 😂😂 Head on back!!
Yeah, the tailgating is exasperating.
They’re way more comfortable getting close to me than I am with them getting so close!
The sound of your RE thumper is music to my ears.
Thanks!!! Me too!!!
Well done you for keeping on going. That was an interesting look at smaller towns in the USA. In particular a part that we'd not normally see viewing here in the UK. That's the beauty of the internet and YT. Thanx for taking us along.🤟
Thank you! I watch the Missenden Flyer’s videos and always find it interesting to see the smaller towns in the UK and I thought it might be interesting for my UK friends to see ours! Thanks for watching.
@@arideinthecountry I watch TMF too. You must be so impressed by the size of our roads.
😂
Ahh, and that’s the downside to travel on the 350; while 55mph(ish) is MY happy place and 55mph is about the bike’s happy place, it is NEVER enough for any four-wheeled vehicle. Even on two lane state highways with lower limits it just adds stress to the trip. 60 to 65 is where I need to be just to keep things somewhat in balance behind me and that’s just not comfortable for me on my 350 with no windscreen, etc. I also spend a lot of time and attention to waving people around me when able and then pulling off at other times to let the line go by. I find that trip time can easily double from what the map suggests. Glad you hung in there! I also found that the day of the week can make a big difference in traffic demands. Some days are just easier than others. Stay safe! Happy Trails…!
So true. Both myself and The Meteor 350 are happy at 55 but the cars and trucks behind me… not so much. It took me about 4 hours but I did stop several times. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience too! 👍🏻
should have got thee silverwing i have a 84 standard love it its my 4th motorcycle
I think I would have bought it in a different time and in a different circumstance. Someday!
I own a Honda GL500 Silverwing for sale if anybody is interested. I live in Cleveland
Hope someone gets to enjoy it!
@@arideinthecountry for now, it will be me.
What a fun ride!
Thanks Matt!
wanting to get one for my dual sport but was oblivious to tongue weight requirements when I bought my 2016 2WD thinking I only want to take my moto that weighs 340lb wet surely the 3,500lb towing capacity is enough. thanks for the video. looks great!
@@danfordtv Still using it and still working great!
Nice little ride out. Got to make the most of it now with autumn and winter almost upon us.
When we got to the bridge we noticed the license plate on the Meteor was missing! Retraced our steps and didn’t find it. Waiting for a new one in the mail 😕
@@arideinthecountry Oh dear! The bike ran well tho despite that little mishap.
Those are the kind of roads I like. Were you in the Xenia/Springfield area?
Yes. Northern Greene and Southern Clark counties. Outside of Yellow Springs, Enon, near Springfield Airport and Pitchin
Nice review on the fabulous Meteor 350! I've a 2021 Fireball Yellow with nearly 8000 miles and agree with your sentiments 100%. Have been to the old pickle factory and drooled over the vintage bikes especially the Suzuki 2-strokes. Your Meteor will continue to improve with more miles ridden. Mine took 3000 miles to run-in completely. Been riding since 1973. My Meteor is the most comfortable stock bike ever owned.
Thank you. I really enjoy the bike!
Any issues with the quad lock? Any damage to the phone from vibration?
No issues. Phone camera is fine. Love it. Super solid.
Thanks for sharing with those of us who were not able to attend. Great video!
You’re welcome
Nice nails 👍🏻
Always good to have a helper 😊
Nice seeing ya on the dirt again!
Thanks 👍
I'm amazed! 1: I didn't know turkeys could fly, I just thought they were a similar bird but not related to chickens hence flightless. 2: Your car was the only one there when you got back to it. 3: There was no litter and crap all over the place in the car park and no overflowing bins. AWSOME!
I didn’t know turkeys could fly either! I was shocked when it took flight!
@@arideinthecountry I thought I was being a bit dumb but I've only every seen them on plate at Christmas.
always to have different tools for different tasks!
I have had my Meteor 350 for 3 years this month (August). 2021 Stellar red Meteor 350. I just went over 11,000 trouble free miles. I will be 68 this November and have ridden motorcycles most of my life. I've owned dirt bikes and a Triumph 750 but other than hill climbing and riding out in the sticks on those dirt bikes none of them gave me the enjoyment this Meteor does. The only thing I didn't care for when I first got the bike was the poor (dim) head light. Maybe the new ones have LED lights but this one doesn't. I put an engine guard on it and hooked up a couple LED lights and attached them to the engine guard and that really helped. Also installed a windshield, saddle bags, touring foot pegs, and just got my touring seat today. My son and I are planning a road trip from here in North Texas to Iowa this fall. About 800 miles one way. He rides an Indian Scout 60. I love the Tripper navigation on it. It will let you put in your destination and avoid highways and toll roads. Granted It won't break any speed records but at my age it goes plenty fast. I'm at the age that I just like to get out on the back roads and enjoy cruising. I know you will enjoy your Meteor as much as I do. The one common thread I hear people say on TH-cam that give their review of the bike is "it puts a smile on your face."
It really does put a smile on my face. I never ride after dark - too many white tail deer that jump out of the cornfields here so I have no opinion on the headlamp. I go the touring seat and I love it. I've been looking at saddle bags - curious which ones you have and if you like them.

I bought the Sportster with the ape hangers in June.Kinda weird seeing my actual bike on a TH-cam vid.I haven't even taken any pics of it,yet I get to see it on the internet now. I think it was Jake that you showed briefly that I dealt with.Great guy.He ran out and stopped me when I was about to leave and handed me 2 $100 bills...Turns out I accidentally overpaid $200.Can't ask for a more honest dude than that
Hey! Small world! That’s cool. Jake is a great guy. Always fun to talk to and I always learn something.
I purchased a pre-owned 2021 RE Meteor 350, which came with the touring seat for rider and pillion. But find the rider's touring seat to be a bit hard, but it does look good with the stitching, :-). Enjoyed your video. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing! So far I like the touring seat… but I haven’t had it very long. Time will tell.
I've got a Meteor 350 recently, and the seat feels too soft; perhaps will buy the touring seat. On the bicycles I prefer the Brooks saddles, and had similar sturdy leather custom seat on my HD Sportster, but the original Enfield seat is more or less ok, at least for an hour or so. Thanks for the review!
Its been almost a year since i picked up my 1982 GL500. I should do a propwr review soon. Its treated me so well
I’d be interested in your thoughts
I was wondering how much it costs, and off of the style? Do you like it, how do the ride of it?
I fitted the touring seat on my bike at 500 miles at the time it was less than £100 ($120) in the UK and it for me is a worthwhile upgrade as it is firmer and more comfortable (the stock seat the padding compresses and it felt like I was sitting directly on the base after 50 miles) . I would also recommend the comfort foot pegs they allow you to move your feet a bit to relieve the cramps . I have had over 9000 trouble free miles with my bike in the last two and a half years with the exception of the rear indicator lenses fracturing where the screw goes through. This I have put down to Royal Enfield employing a gorilla to over tighten them at the factory as since I replaced them I have had no problems but l do have a couple of spare lenses (£5 each) just in case. My first service cost me £150 as it is a valve check along with oil and filter and check over but I have seen people paying over £200 and less than £100 as there is no set charge .
Thanks for the info! 👍🏻
If you have interest, I live nearby and purchased a Triumph Scrambler 400x ($7200ish out the door). Can do a comparison if you like
Did you installed any PPF on your bike? Looks so polished so asking 😅 I'm using supernova model thought to buy Touring seat how you compare with stock seat with Touring one?
I’ve only been out once on the new seat but it felt way better!
They are extremely reliable 500 cc,50 h.p. water cooked shaft drive. I had one with 80k and no problems at all. They are a bit heavy but the 90° v twin is well balanced and it does not feel heavy. It handles similarly to a guzzi without the dubious Italian electrics and a dry clutch not noted for longevity.
Good to know!
80° silly goose, it was originally going to be 90° but honda wanted a slimmer engine. So along with tighten the V angle, they also rotated the heads 22° so the carbs are tucked under. Doing so resulted in a stubby push rod valve train, when honda was all about over head cams at the time. Truly a masterpiece of engineering
@@yurionabike99 yeah I wasn't sure about the degree. One thing is sure it handled well and was a sound engine.
@@nicholasbrowning4558 oh yeah. I've got just shy of 50k miles on mine. It's barely broken in!
