Cold soak. Ick! It’s 38 degrees in the morning I want something hot. Being a vegan backpacker sucks because food choices are so limited.
It would be very easy to make any of his meals with hot water! I cold soak mostly because I’m lazy, but boy do those breakfasts sound yummy all steamy and stuff!
Great video! Tip: A small jar of mixed garlic powder, chilli powder and citric acid can do wonders to spice up any meal.
This is awesome! I tested it a few weeks back and I'm hooked-it's light, easy to source, and simple to make. It works well with a cold soak, but it's even better when mixed with hot water. I've adapted it since some items are hard to find here in Australia. For anyone interested, see the breakdown below: #GoVegan #VeganPower Breakfast: 1 1/4 cup of rolled oats1/4 cup peanuts/other nuts 1/4 cup of sunflower or pumpkin seeds 1/4 cup of raisins/dry fruit mix 2 tablespoons of chia seeds 1 tablespoons of brown sugar Lunch: 2 tortillas 4 tablespoons of peanut butter Dinner: 1/2 cup of dehydrated beans (can be substituted with sunflower seeds, Freeze-Dried peas, dried bananas) 3/4 of a cup of TVP (textured vegetable protein) 1/4 cup of instant potato mash or instant polenta 1/2 cup of raisins/dried fruit mix 2 teaspoons of gravy powder1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika or curry powdersalt, pepper, Snacks: Protein bars / cliff bars (4 bars)

Dinner would be better if you added bacon.
Life would be better for you if you didn’t impede on people’s preferences
@@dylansitler2771the video talks about carb loading to avoid hitting the wall. But if he went on a high fat keto diet, such as eating lots of bacon and sardines, he’d avoid hitting the wall by being in nutritional ketosis, as described by Phinney and Volek in their research on endurance athletes. Furthermore, high fat food is nutrient dense and caloric dense, which makes them ideal for hikers. Lastly, on keto, you don’t get hungry and efficiently oxidize fat for fuel. The YTer asked people for comment, so I have my two cents.
@@RC-qf3mp I do agree with the high fat, however this is a page for vegans. No matter what you say about our diet we aren’t going to go back to eating meat as easy as that
@@dylansitler2771 I’m not telling anybody what to eat. Eat whatever you like. I’m stating facts. Animal fat is the most caloricly dense and nutrient dense food. Fish fat in particular is also very anti inflammatory which is important given the pounding the human body takes on trail. If you want to risk safety, health and nutrition by avoiding the DHA and EPA found in fish, knock yourself out. If you enjoy carrying lots of extra weight in ultra processed vegan food that is full of sugar, little nutrients and was likely made on farms that kill countless rodents and bugs, knock yourself out some more. Have fun with that. I prefer a whole food animal based diet that is also the most nutrient dense and calorc dense for hiking.
This was fantastic!! I’m so sad there aren’t more recent videos but this right here is amazing work. Thanks man - also you are delightful!!

When is the ending of rainy season
Why aren't you uploading?
How was parking the car overnight? I'm thinking about staying at hostels
$62 per day?
Hey there, what was the name of the company you rented the car? By the way, thanks for sharing, amazing video!!
Too Limited in fruits and vegetables
th-cam.com/video/7_4_-iO7lfg/w-d-xo.html
I knew I was on the right video immediately! Thanks so much.
What is the hot spring in this video for free?
Very helpful video! Thanks!!
Whats good my mans, what's the name of the location on 2:26? I would appreciate it so much .... Yuh Heard! Great Vid. Keep it Veal!
What was the cost of the whole trip.
Got a great price on plane ticket ($288 roundtrip), on car rental ($62 for a week), and hotels, food, activities, gas, etc. probably came to under $400. Would say trip cost under $1,000. Apologies, not sure how helpful as 3 years ago Safe travels 🙏
What month of the year was this? Beautiful scenery! Heading to Costa Rica in two weeks.
Late November. Have a beautiful time out there! Puravida ❤️🙏
Any suggestions for scuba / snorkeling on this route?
Thank you for asking. Haven't personally snorkeled or scuba-dived in Costa Rica. Perhaps someone might be able to chime in with recommendations for you. Safe travels and pura vida! 🤙
Thank you for making this video!
It puzzles me why somebody would lie and say they leased a car in Costa Rica for $62 when it is one of the most costly places to do so. Awful things like that would be expected from Alamo when trying to make a sale, but I am interested in hearing your reasoning for spreading such disinformation. YOU KNOW IT WASN'T JUST $62.
Most precisely, it was $61.96 Looking at official PDF receipt now with breakdown Mid Size Automatic Vehicle Rate charge (1 week) @ $37.04 Airport fee $5.99 Environmental fee $2.80 Vehicle registration recoupment fee $9.00 IVA $7.13 Total $61.96 Truth here was it was one of the best deals ever 😊 The year was 2019 (pre-covid) during slow season It's easy to imagine if you try You are forgiven, Aldrin 🕊️❤️🙏 Much love & pura vida 🤙
@@transit2freedom Yes and how much was insurance on top of that?
I just reserved a car in San Jose for 8 days its $115 its super cheap just don't get all the insurance if you credit card covers it. That will double or more the price!
what place did you rent a car? & $62, is that including the goverment insurance as well?
new subscriber here!
Hi there! Thank you for subscribing! 🙏
Amazing video!!!
Looks beautiful! When in the fall were you there?
Yes, so beautiful! Toward end of October or early November 🙏
how did you get such cheap car rate? we fly into sjo and alamo is showing 577$ total for cheapest
Hi Julia! This was pre-covid. It was an amazing deal even then 😲 Likely booked through Kayak or equivalent. Could've done a better job in video of reflecting just how big of a blessing that price was 🙏 Generally speaking, car rental rates seem to be a lot more expensive now across much of the world. Sorry no helpful tips. Have a beautiful time in Costa Rica! Pura vida 🤙🌈
is it possible to do the entire trip with public transportation? the car is USD 840 for 8 days which is outside my budget.
Ouch, feel your pain. Itinerary is unfortuantely not possible via public transport -- certain parts are, such as Arenal and Tamarindo. Would recommend doing research into what's the latest there on the ground. Hope you have a beautiful trip! Pura vida!
This was so thorough and so helpful. Thank you!
Thanks all good info although I usually stay away from bars because of the weight.
Planning a trip to Costa Rica 🇨🇷 in a month time but don’t know how to go about it, any help please ?
Do you know anything about having to buy another a third party insurance when you rented the car? I’m hearing bad stories about people having to buy expensive insurance when they get to the rental car place.
Thanks for question Eduardo! Not sure what latest is unfortunately. Personally did not experience an issue with insurance 🙏
Just what I needed. Thanks man.
Wonderful! I hope you'll come back to TH-cam one day.
This is an amazing video. How did you manage to book your car rental for so cheap? Most videos I’ve watched claim the insurance and tax costs are insane.
Thank you! Seems to be most frequent question. The more we've learned about other experiences more we realize we got very very lucky. Don't know that it'll be something capable of recreating. Wish video made it a little clearer. We were able to decline insurance (used credit card coverage). We also brought back a flat tire (rode back in on a spare). They assessed it and didn't charge us for it. There was a tremendous amount of grace 🙏🌈 pura vida
I’m gonna stay in a resort for 7 nights in Iberia , where can I go , what would you recommend
Am I the only one having issues with the sound? I really like the video but the sound is very static for me and the voice sound is low
Hey, where was the place that has the hot spring around 3:43?
Rincon de la Vieja! Here's a video with more specifics 😊 th-cam.com/video/pIsXFf18x08/w-d-xo.html Hope it helps 🙏 Enjoy 🤙
Great video. How do you find your way around. Did you have GPS in the car? This is a place I have dreamed of visiting. Thanks.
Yes! While planning trip developed sense for paths to take. Once on ground, Google Maps and checking in with locals in parts requiring current insight on road conditions (e.g., Nicoya Peninsula river crossings). With Google Maps, one can download offline maps of any region and use GPS on phone even without service. Comes in handy! Hope you have chance to get to Costa Rica soon. Pura vida 🤙
what was the 90 min road?
Believe Route 143. Each day's drive is available in free itinerary! Under Day 3, one can click on GM (Google Maps) directions and see full course taken: bit.ly/T2FCRD 😊 Hope that helps 🙏 Pura vida 🤙
Thank you sir!
@@transit2freedom can you please share the name or location of the thermal springs just at the end of the vid?
Unfortunately cannot recall name 🙏 Several options - can search 'Termales Miravalles Costa Rica' on google maps. Enjoy!
Do you have any recommendations for car rentals? Very hesitant to book with the possibility of getting scammed/overcharged.
Perhaps try booking with a larger brand such as Hertz, Alamo, Enterprise, etc. Hope you have a lovely trip! 🤙
I’m so torn on whether to rent a car or not. I’m doing a solo trip and plan at staying at hostels so I’m not sure there will be parking. But the public transportation sounds like such a headache
Yes, tough decision indeed. Good news is you'll be in Costa Rica regardless 😊 At time of trip in video, cost of a rental car was so low. With only 7 days and a desire to see a lot, it was a no-brainer. If you have a longer stay in Costa Rica, public transport (cost advantage) or taxi hire (time advantage) are both worth consideration 🙏 Have a beautiful time out there 🤙
This is perfect, you’re an angel!!!
I thought my Spanish was the worst, but your pronunciation of Pura Vida wins 😂✌🏻
I've been heavily researching videos about CR for my trip in 2 weeks, and this is by far the best one. I appreciate you telling us exactly where to go to include the tour companies to use. Where should I use a tour company and where should I just hike without a guide? Cheers.
Happy to hear that! Thank you 🙏 Everything done during this trip was self-led though several years back experienced very nice tours with kayaking and through jungle. Would recommend seeing what you find for current tours on tripadvisor or the like. The people of Costa Rica are amazingly warm and have only had great guided experiences. Enjoy out there! Pura vida 🤙🌺
Hey! was the ziplining free as well?
Ziplining had a fee per person. Unfortunately, can't recall what it cost 🙏
@@transit2freedom thank you! & No problem I'm just trying to punch in some numbers here lol
I see everywhere that there will be a significant charge for insurance on vehicle rental when you get there. Was this your experience? Great video, btw!
Thanks for watching! Rented from a major car rental brand (e.g., Hertz, Alamo, Enterprise, etc.) and had no problem using free insurance offered on credit card. That being said, it did seem insurance needed to come from somewhere. Hope that helps! 🙏 Pura vida🤙
is this possible to do without a car? im traveling solo and dont know how to drive :(
Thanks for question! Congrats on upcoming trip 😊 Anything is possible though recommend putting together a carless itinerary. Most major travel guides / books gear or include information for carless travelers. That's one safe place to start. Lonely Planet is one guide that tends to have information online. Just make sure modes of transport used in guides are still operating as stated Without ability to hop into a car at-will and move as you'd like, what you watched in video would be exceedingly challenging to recreate in 7 days and cannot be recommended Good news though! Each year so so many people travel solo and without a car and have the time of their life in Costa Rica. Sending good vibes your way for such a trip for you and pura vida 🤙🌺🙏
Heading to Costa Rica in a few weeks and this was super helpful. Thanks!!
