Getting ready to do some magazine videos. An example of problems with mag reliability. 6 GT, Accurate magazines, and one AW magazine, KRG Chassis, Lone Peak Fuzion.
Mag Issues at the Hornady PRC: 538 Shuffle & Swing
มุมมอง 2002 ปีที่แล้ว
99 second stage. 12 shots from 6 positions. I timed out with ten shots on the clock because my MDT 12 rounder doesn't play well with 12 6mm BRA rounds. At the last position, my ARC mag dropped and I had to reinsert it, just barely getting my last shot off in time. Make sure your mags work under match conditions, folks. I've lost so many points due to magazine failures over the last year.
PRS Gear - Kahles k525i SKMR3 Review

Review of the Kahles k525i with SKMR3 reticle from a PRS perspective. There's a lot of reviewers who review stuff based on specs or even glass quality, but few who do reviews from a use case standpoint. Here's my take on the k525i.

Here, I show how to use a Tremor3 reticle (I use it in my Steiner M7Xi) in a PRS context. For my 112 Match Burners at 2930 feet per second, my wind dots work out this way: Tail/Head wind: Hold center and pray 20 degree wind: dot = 12mph 60 degree wind: dot = 6mph 90 degree wind: dot = 5mph Checkout the Snipershide updated windrose to get a better calculation going for your own reticle: www.snip...

I've been running Tikkas for 3 years and recently made a switch to a full custom Lone Peak 6 GT. More to come on that, but here's a review of the first trigger I tried with the rifle - Bix'n Andy Dakota trigger. It's already a backup trigger after 50 rounds down the barrel, because it sucks compared to what I'm used to. Here's a comparison video between the Dakota and the Tikka trigger.

    Imo I think this is the best balance between a simple mil scale and something like a tremor 3. It's wonderfully simple yet gives you just what you need

      Most shooting in PRS is at 10-20x. The 8x32 would probably have the best eye box in that range. Theoretically. I think either ought to be good, but I'd check with someone who shoots Leupold scopes if you can

    How do you feel about this reticle in their 3.6-18 lineup? I'm considering putting it on my MK12. I don't need super precise holds nor will I be dialing out to distances where I would need more wind holds in the early stages of the Xmas tree. I'd love to get your thoughts on this

      @rothgyr4360 Yup, that’s the way. I just purchased a like-new Kahles K525i w/ Left Side Windage and the SKMR4 reticle for $2100 on the SnipersHide PX. I cannot wait to get it; it will immediately be the highest-quality optic that I've ever owned. I wanted to get a K525i DLR for the 10 MIL turrets and the increased FOV, but I think I will be alright without those things for the money saved. This will be for a work gun, so I can use the money saved and start saving toward a DLR for a build I am putting together; I would like to start considering PRS and the NRL Hunter Series. You think I did well at the price for that? I figured I wouldn't lose money on it if I got it and wasn't what I was looking for in the reticle or CA control. Thanks man!

      That's a fantastic price. Yes the k525i has a smaller fov compared with other $3k scopes, but it's nowhere near as bad as a mk5 or xrs3. It should smoke anything in the $2k price point unless you can find a razor 3, but even then, I like the kahles turrets and parallax/lsw more

    • @savagegentleman3583
      @savagegentleman3583 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rothgyr4360 Great! Thanks so much. Yep, I really liked the overall features of the Kahles line with the parallax adjustment location and the left-side windage adjustment. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to find a compatible mount that would allow me to see my turrets clearly, while also allowing clearance for the parallax adjustment spinner. I understand the Spuhr mounts work, but the kicker was if I wanted to mount a diving board for a weapon-mounted LRF on the front ring and not have the spinner hit it. I couldn't find hardly any information on, but located a like new Spuhr SP-4003b mount with the extended erector spacing; I think that will allow room for the spinner and a front diving board. Do you have any experience with a setup like this?

    To the manufacturer the lure has to catch a fisherman. To the fisherman the lure has to catch the fish because it already caught him. So goes life. I don't shoot PRS or any center fire rifles (wish I had the time and money) but it seems that these guys really have to love the reticle or just settle for what they have that works well for them. (scope that they are used to/know well) I look at that stuff and wish I could get a nice scope for my 22's but they won't really make me shoot better. PRS= you need to see what you're shooting at 1,000yrs, many people would buy that scope off of you but if it works for you be about the game instead of the equipment, or sell it and get a new scope?

  • @BuckFoeJiden

    Anyone whos looking for budget friendly option and a reticle with a similar design, the two I've used personally are the US Optics TS-20X with JVCR reticle, and the Primary Arms SLX with R Grid 2B reticle. You're not going to get Nightforce performance out of these scopes, so keep that in mind, but the JVCR and R Grid 2B are both solid tree reticles. I prefer the glass and turrets on the TS-20X in general, I prefer the Primary Arms SLX reticle for general use, especially with the Chevron, and the JVCR seems to do better at longer range shooting. I really like my SWFA 10x42 on my .243 AR10, but I'm strongly considering swapping to the PA SLX 4-16. Both scopes run a top mounted dot, which something you should also consider. Even for PRS. It makes acquiring sight picture at distance really fast, and if you're shooting anything inside of 300 yards, a 2 MOA dot touching your target will almost always net you a hit. On my 20" 5.56, with a height over bore of +4.5", the dot zeroed at 75 yds makes hitting out to 300 really quick. Not necessarily entirely related to the video, buy hopefully it'll help someone. 🤷‍♂️

    WHICH mag(s) were problematic?

    • @rothgyr4360
      @rothgyr4360 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the issue is KRG's shortish mag latches, and random interactions. I've since put extended mag catches in all my KRGs, and most of my magazine problems have since disappeared. Most. In this video, my Accurate mags crapped the bed hard with 6 GT rounds. They were 100% reliable when I was shooting 6 XC in the same chassis with a Tikka. I'm going to try and do a video about mag tuning and diagnoses. If your rounds are too short, under recoil some will walk forward and the ones on top will tip backward. Fix is to have mag kit like HRD, or MDT's new GT follower kit. If your rounds aren't clearing the chamber and are hitting the barrel's tenon, it's likely your feed lips need opening up at the front (I get this with AWs). You can open up the front 1/4 inch of the lips with a crescent wrench, and it goes away. It takes some trial and error. Double to single stack mags like ARC will not function when dirty and bind up. ARC mags apparently don't play well in a Tikka with full length cartridges like Creedmoor, but work great with BR cartridges (shorter feed lips make this possible). In this video, my mag that worked best was an AW, but we had a required mag change, and after that mag change, I was back to using the Accurate mag, which again, was a poop show with this GT.

      Horus has something like it for the tremor 3 on their site. It's not perfect, and it's geared for wind dots instead of actual holds, but you can still plug that into a ballistic calculator and hold the mils in the tremor reticle.

    @yf222000 ปีที่แล้ว

    I recently purchased the FDN 17. In my opinion. It is not worth the $2600 price. While it looks really good on the outside. There are quite a few drawbacks that deems it unworthy. The rheostat design is a nightmare to reinstall. The eye relief is terrible. The eye box is even worse.

    • @rothgyr4360
      @rothgyr4360 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you compared it to other $2600 scopes? You're absolutely correct about the rheostat design. You should have what suits your eyes, and I can't deny that, but the eyebox and eye relief are poor in order to increase field of view. It's not a bad optical choice, it's an optimization. You can get a Razor II and have a forgiving eyebox, but you'll have more CA and possible misses due to parallax. You can get a MK5 and have a tiny field of view. Eyebox/eye relief are great features in a rifle scope, but if they're not the highest priority on the manufacturer's optical formula it doesn't mean it's a bad design. Did you mount your scope? Most people who complain about the eyebox have never mounted it or looked through it on a rifle that is properly fitted to them.
