I would really love to get back into the videos. The last few years I've been focusing on shorter trails with friends that I didn't film. BUT me and my partner are hoping to head out to do The Colorado Trail next year - I'll definitely put something together for that I think! 🎉 Cheers again!

Hey Lizzie, thanks for checking out the video. On the SWCP I would usually call the campsites that morning when I had a rough idea of where I would be that evening. 75% of the campsites I called said no. On most other trails I have hiked the campsites are super hiker friendly and will squeeze you in with an ultralight tent regardless of booking. That was not the case on the SWCP, everyone wanted me to prebook. They are more set up for holiday makers and families than hikers and backpackers!

Thanks for watching the video buddy. I think it’s awesome we have a pretty wide variety of trails in the UK. The SWCP and The Pennine Way couldn’t get much more different! If I had to choose my favourite I’d go with The Pennine Way - I personally love moors and bogs! The space, wildness and freedom gave me a feeling I didn’t capture as easily on the coast path. I averaged 20 miles a day on this one which is probably a little faster than average but completely doable if you're in decent hiking shape and using modern lightweight gear. The Pennine way is an awesome trail though, so the longer you take the better 😁

Long distance walks are full of challenges. Like in life - it's these challenges that make it worthwhile. Here are a few of the challenges I faced during my 3 months and 2,000 miles of hiking in 2021... Violent illness. Extreme Cold. Rain for 2 weeks straight. Heat wave. Lack of water sources. Wind blowing down my tent. Having to hike through the night because there are no suitable campsites. All my electronics running out of battery with nowhere to charge. MIDGES. ticks. Missing my family. No clean water sources. Navigation difficulties in rural Scottish mountains. My own mind. BLISTERS. Running out of money. I wouldn't change a thing. Walk that far and you will understand. 😉 Thanks for watching ♥️🙌

Well as someone that has walked three quarters of this wonderful trail it is tough going in places due to the fact of numerous ascents and descents from the path at the cliff top down to the beach then across a large expanse of sandy beach then up again to regain the high ground where you join up with the path. You may well have to repeat that several times a day .

Hey Chris thanks so much for the comment. I started in April as the group just wanted to get started, but I would recommend starting mid May onwards if possible. We had some cold nights. You’ll definitely need some insect protection if you’re in Scotland during the summer, I switched to a proper tent as was very thankful for that!

Thanks so much Paddy. I really appreciate the comments. This walk was basically a fitness test for me after 2000 miles of walking that year, it's pretty mad thinking I basically did 40 mile consecutive days! Doubt I will ever do anything like this again but very cool to look back on!

100% that is seriously cool to look back on dude, your my bench mark for final form @@easydexter ! :P I plan on tackling the coast to coast for my first time in the next few months hopefully

Thanks for your comment Michael. I agree that most people will naturally drop some weight over time but investing in modern ultralight gear will definitely be beneficial for people walking a long thru hike (500+ miles). Switching from a 2kg tent to a 500g tent makes a big difference over that distance! Happy trails!

Yes it is a tough walk in my opinion

April 20th we started. I would probably recommend starting a little later for most people as we had some really cold nights the first couple of weeks. I think early May would be perfect!

Hey Tom, I used an app called refill that shows shops that let's you refill water bottles for free without buying anything. I also used a sawyer filter. I can't remember that section specifically but I wild camped most of the way, just set up late and leave early 👍

@@easydexter yeah I would go totally independent from any campsites. Just asking because never been in cornwall before. I been using msr filter for years but now finally for some reasons changed to Katadyn befree. Just hope is there a lot of water. Refill app-yes I got this but never used before. Cheers!

Can I recommend you do some research prior to attempting this walk on the SWCP ? As with all my walks I prepare and familiarise myself with the route, facilities etc. For the SWCP ,2 weeks per year, all accommodation was booked well before my September start dates. So a mixture of youth hostel, camp sites , bunk barns , B& B . . So read up and watch the videos online and pretty soon you will have a very good idea of ways of approaching this LDFP. And don’t forget there are various luggage transfer services that will transport your kit . I would plan my route, print my itinerary send to the company who would then send a costing. They would collect from the given location after 10 am and deliver after 5 pm. Used this type of service on a couple of walks and highly recommend it. Means you don’t have to hump all the camping kit etc and just carry a smalll day sac .

Hi Redmarky, I was pretty much filterering the whole way on this trip. I only drink unfiltered water when far away from humans and usually close to source.

@@marcus25g really appreciate that mate! I had a good year in 2021 for sure but I had a lot of time and space then. Would love to do another big one eventually, but life keeps getting in the way!!!

That's awesome that you are doing it with your daughter, special times! Yeah Frogg Toggs are still my favourite waterproof jackets! Mainly because I'm pretty prone to ripping them and they are cheaper to replace 😂 they are pretty darn good at keeping the water out too though!

@@easydexter thanks, I might go with the jacket and pant set, I'm sick of spending big money on flimsy ultralight rain gear just for it to fail after a year or so. At least I won't mind as much for the price frog toggs go for.

@@trooperwolfie we are on the same page with this! I tried out a couple of more expensive UL raincoats and found they performed worse that frog toggs. Note the frogg bottoms won't last you very long, they usually rip after about 5 miles for me 😂

@@easydexter No way! That's awesome mate I'm really chuffed for you. Like yourself I've been making ul tarps for friends but have to import the silnylon from RSBTR at low quantities to avoid the duties! Would love to take it further like you guys have with Atom Packs but the overall cost of importing material with shipping and then labour on top is similar to buying a pre made one from the states ... so Damn Brexit!! Haha maybe one day I'll make it work but super glad you've landed at AP anyhow and best of luck in the future mate! 👍

I'm definitely a fair weather camper Gaz. I camp from April to October and spend the winter focusing on other activities. The short days aren't good for hiking or camping in my opinion and all that extra gear you need to carry! Would love to spend a little more time abroad to do some hiking over our winter though.
