Two questions. Im nowhere near even thinking about competitive darts, but roughly what level should one be at before taking that step. Like a goal to work towards. 2ndly, iv noticed my throws are very loopy and the flight is always above where I hit, where my friends are super hard and land flat, 90 degrees to the board. When i try to throw like that, i lose all direction. But when i throw my normal style, I beat my friend most times. (Playing cricket). Do I need to change my loopy style to get better or is it ok?

how can you point the tip of the dart upward but not the whole dart? what a dumb thing to say. Also, many players (including MVG) point their dart down when throwing, it`s personal preference and not a rule. As for the dominant eye, again, many players (including MVG and littler) don`t use that line of sight, it`s just muscle memory.

I’m a beginner what darts should I get

24 g dart with standard flight but consistently low darts. What flight would help?

I'm just an amateur. Still looking for a dart that suits me. I like the heavy and short ones. It's just that the dart wing aka shaft is a little hard to get into.

The T-shirt I used in combination with the Darts caused large holes and more damage than expected. I would never use a T-shirt again for practice perhaps a sheet of paper but never a shirt.

I don't understand how can you point just the tip upwards and not the whole of the dart? how can the tip of a dart point in a different direction to the rest of the dart?

Oh yeah. My darts have definitely improved since I also took up playing (full size) tennis over the summer. That's a great tip! I always have music going when I throw if I can help it so that's great news! My tip: three to four beers is usually my dart throwing sweet spot where the alcohol has taken the edge off but I'm not drunk. I throw really well I'm that 'threeish maybe four beers' window.

Some good tips. I've been throwing darts since the 80s, and, from what I've learned, finding your best grip, stance, and throwing mechanics, and then remaining consistent with them, is what it's all about. After that, the mental aspect becomes important. The darts themselves, shape, weight, flights, etc., are what's least important on how well you play, and really don't come into play until after you've got the first 4 items down consistently. Honestly, if you have an inconsistent grip and stance, hold your arm differently every time you throw, while having no confidence and feeling pissed off, it doesn't matter if you have a $200 match weighted set of darts, a $4 set from walmart, or a 5 pound rock, you will never get it right.

My practice is just play people online with 60 AVG or more plus go around the boards on doubles couple of times I do this nearly every day sometimes for 2 sometimes for 6 hours..I've been playing 10 months and I'm hitting 75 AVG at the minute..doin tournament also

My right eye is the dominant. I'm really nervous when testing it. I'm worried that my left eye is the dominant because I have a bad eyesight there, it's too blurry for me to see the board since it's far away 🥹
