I'm hoping to do a Raleigh roadie bike and 531C frame in this colour scheme.
Just came across your channel as I’ve just bought exactly the same bike in similar condition just need to get some new tyres and a set of pads
Absolutely 💯 👍
Look at that what a beauty! My best mate had one of those, I thought it a bit gay next to my night burner lol 😂
@@kidda74 thank you 😊 I love an Extra Burner, but the Mk2 Night Burner is my favourite.
True story, I was at the rubbish tip and I found 2 bikes (about 15 years ago), I seen the wheels sticking out the rubbish, it was a chrome Burner with white mag wheels and it was mint looking, I toyed with throwing it in my car just for the nostalgia but left it and took the other bike, an 80s Raleigh banana racer as I had use for it, few days later I checked out the BMX chrome burner value and at that time on eBay I actually found one for £700, I was gutted I left it behind, the Racer I kept though and my friend still has it.
@@You-Deef I’m gutted for you 😧
@@chasetherainbow Not sure the exact Burner it was, sure it was MK1 with chrome frame and white plastic wheels, totally minted, obviously a shed clearance or something, I ended up paying £350 for a Tuff Burner.
Great vid, I so want to build one now! 🤩
@@kidda74 thank you ☺️. Get one built, you’ll love it.
Had a blue one when I was 5, was the first of the oval frame, would have been 84 I think
@@garethjones8047 Nice 😊 Yes yours would have been the Mk2 (a much better bike than the Mk1), they were sold in 84/85.
Unbelievable job done on that. Hang it on your wall . 👍💯👏👌
@@martinwild8424 thank you. This one went off to new home. I’ve got three customs that I ride but I don’t keep the restoration projects; I haven’t got the space unfortunately.
I was riding a chrome burner frame right through the 90s. It was my older brother-from-another-mother's bike years before. Absolutely bomb-proof, it took such a beating
Great story. I think the fact that they were so tough is why so many still survive.
love this!
@@simonjarratt thank you 😊
Neil, can I ask you a daft question about rivets?! You mentioned drilling through the rivets on the chainwheel guard, what size/type did you replace them with when you put it back together? Aluminium/stainless steel and were they just ones to fit the hole or a specific size? Great vids. Really enjoyed them, thank you.
@@simonjarratt it’s not a daft question, and you’re more than welcome. The rivets are aluminium and are 4.8mm (3/16”) Cheers Neil
@@chasetherainbow thanks Neil!

Where would you recommend for Burner decals? Many thanks.
@@aml74 I’ve always used EsemDesign, unfortunately he has now ceased making them. I believe there is a company that has taken over the manufacturing but I’m not sure who they are. The other highly regarded manufacturer is Delcals www.delcals.com/ I haven’t used their services yet but I’m told they are very good.
@@chasetherainbow Many thanks for your reply. I couldn't see any Raleigh decals on their site, so i've sent an email...
Can anyone tell me what size cable clips i need for the top tube of a Mk 2 Burner with the oval tubing? Thanks...
@@aml74 Hi 👋 You need the 28.6mm clips.
@@chasetherainbow Much appreciated - thankyou!
Also, where is the best place to get Mk 2 Burner decals, please???
@@chasetherainbow Is there a knack to fitting them??? The 28.6mm clips don't seem to reach around the Mk 2 oval tubing...

What sandpaper you used for the spokes?
It depends how bad they are. Normally a 180 grit emery cloth to remove the worst, and then polish with a 400 grit wet or dry and/or wire wool.
Some lovely bikes , will you be doing another this year ?
I think there’s talk of one on June 22nd (I’ll be at work), best to keep a lookout on the Facebook group “Nottingham Old School BMX”.
@@chasetherainbow thanks mate I’ll keep my eye out see if I can get 👍
Any idea of the nut size for the wheels mate?
I’m sorry, I don’t. I haven’t got it anymore so I can’t check either. The nuts are definitely 3/8” but I’m not certain of the thread size, sorry.
@@chasetherainbow Thanks mate! Without sounding dumb, what does thread size actually mean :/ is it the metal bolt the nut screws onto :/
Let's be honest other than the aero burner ,burners sucked
lol 😂 Which Aero Pro Burner? The Mk1 T3 or the Mk2 T4? What about Mk1 Pro, Mk1 Cromo? Built on Tange and Koizumi frames/forks. Mk2 Cromo? Koizumi/Tange. TAP? Pro Race? - Tange. Then there was the Special Bike Development Unit Team Burner frameset and fork on Reynolds 501 Chromalloy M tubing? Or the Mk2 Ultra on full cromo frame/fork/bars with high end components? Or do you just mean the others? 😂
@chasetherainbow the one I had with tange areo forks not trx was a good bike ,also had a huffy a robinson a pk ripper and a haro freestyle which was crap, heavy and short ,the pk was awsome
@chasetherainbow the geometry on burners was awful ,way to short head angle to slack ,bottom bracket to high ,mild steel heavy ,crap components terrible bars if you ever won a race in the early 80s with one of these you must have had some skills , it got kids interested tho ,I loved bmx since 1980, still follow it now ,it blows my mind how far it has come
@@staffh3815 so you mean the standard Mk1’s then. Yes they were shite. All the ones on Japanese frames were excellent bikes, and the Mk2’s were generally much better too
What tool is this?
It’s a Makita Nibbler 👍

I found a mk1 red frame with forks in the woods behind my house last week. Its seen better days. I'd say its deffinately been there for at least 20 years. Yellow stickers are clinging on for dear life.
Nice find 😊 If it’s structurally sound it’ll clean up, you can always have it repainted 👍
@@chasetherainbow its solid believe it or not. I was so happy when I found it. I've rescued it from certain death and I'll probably have a go at restoring it myself.
Missing the 3 colour sticker on the downtube. A lot of kids removed these to pass it off as a Tuff Burner which was more expensive. The real burner fans knew though.
This is a Mag Burner and it’s factory correct. The Tuff Burner had been discontinued and these were the replacement for it; these were the Mk1 phase 2 model.
Nice, very nice work. The rims should be gold though. Personally I's put on White Skyways with red tires but that's just my preference.
Thank you. It’s original factory spec’. The Extra Burner had chrome rims not gold. The Mk1 phase 1 Super Burner had gold rims.
Great video. Its true, the rich kids had the chrome bikes. I had a yellow and blue MK1 Tuff Burner. The best day of my life was getting that bike on my birthday as a surprise. Even the Raleigh dealer played along with the surprise. In the shop car park trying to bunny hop, I felt so rad to be part of the emerging scene. True, it was heavy but it took one hell of a beating and never ever let me down.
Thank you ☺️ It’s amazing how iconic the Burner still is to our generation, and how many of them have survived to this day. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing.
Hi nice job you do to my favourite bmx the night burner iv just got one that is in a bad state hopefully you can help me Where's the best place to get parts mate thanks Carl 😊
Hi Carl, welcome to the Burner party; it’s a slippery slope, I only wanted one and I’ve had about twenty now 😂😂😂 (although I’ve only got six at the moment - three that I ride and three projects. There are quite a few Facebook groups that are worth joining where parts are usually available - prices can vary quite a bit though so it’s wise to be patient - Raleigh Burner 80’s Icon, Raleigh Burner Enthusiasts, Raleigh Burner Life, Raleigh BMX, Chopper, Grifter Group, The Raleigh Burner Group, plus quite a few more. if you do a search for Raleigh Burner on Facebook Pages you find them. Also good resources are alansbmx.com/ (old school section), www.boydsbikes.com/, hopkinsoncycles.co.uk/, bankruptbikeparts.co.uk/. EBay is also a good place to look but prices can be very optimistic at times, again it is best to be patient, plenty of bits pop up at reasonable prices too. For any painting/re-coating you have two options: Mark Ralph based in Shirebrook, Derbyshire at www.mrcreations.co.uk/ And Jon Butler based in Leeds at www.midastouchgb.co.uk/ Jon Butler is the only one who currently does the re-coat for the Night Burner (that’s where mine was done). Hope this helps you out mate 👍
BIG HI from Malta. I like your job mate, but, a self openion if you really like BMX , from da blood, i would never allow restorig some pipes into a classic burner. Im talking about the blue /white bm. That frame has nothing to do with the original one And, its a bit of, not nice let say:) Its like putting a badge of a ferrari on a triumph:)) lol. God bless bro. Keep it up. Your a BM lover. Thats whats really count!!
It’s beautiful
Thank you. It’s still going strong 👍
YES! They were the Bear Claws that ripped my shins many times back in the 80's mate on my extra burner. Edit : you have me calling them Bear Claws now, been so many years. Really nice to see this fella.
Modern pedals are just as brutal, I’m still ripping my shins on the MTB 😂
Bringing the memories flooding back. BMX was the first time i got serious about building a bike and had been into moto x for years by the time i got on a BMX so it was so natural and fun for me and the rest of us.
I had one of those things with white Z rims on and a few other add ons such as a nice Tioga bar clamp with hmmm? bars and Bear Claw p[edals. Thing was minted mate. Nice job you did there.
My best mates had a Mongoose and a Supergoose. Great old days mashin about doing drop off's from containers and busting yourself up bad at times. haha. My one buddy snapped his Skyway TA dropping off from a lorry container.
Thank you. They were heavy but tough. They could take more abuse than some of the more expensive bikes.
How has that raft held up for you? I was thinking of one for my son (I already have a Kokepelli). The cheaper price is attractive but I didn't know if it would hold up as well as more established brands.
Hi, sorry for the slow reply; I’ve been out in the mountains with poor signal. The raft has been great, although I have only used it a few times in the last couple of years. Some friends of mine also have them and they are very happy too. Most of the commercially available rafts are all manufactured in the same factory so they should be reasonably comparable. I’ll be using mine again this summer (UK) so I will try and do an update video.
Thanks for sharing!! 😎🤘
Thank you ☺️
Loved this. Thanks fella. Hope your channel blows up because it deserves to!
Thank you, I’m really glad that you enjoy my videos. I do it for fun and really enjoy making them too.
It should be ok but be careful hitting the bearing face on the forks. Great content 👌
Lovely job 👍 Had one as a lad. Currently building a mk2 burner myself for a bit of nostalgia. Did you keep this bike?
Thank you 😊 Someone asked me to sell it to them so I’ll let it go. I’ve got three custom builds that I ride and enjoy(that aren’t for sale). I restore them for pleasure and let them go if someone wants them. I try not lose too much money on each one but I don’t do them to profit. It’s a nice winter hobby.
Hows a going mate what did ya use to take the gold of
Hi mate. The oven cleaner does most of the work, then scrub with a little stiff brush and rinse with cold water. Leave the bits in the oven cleaner for about 10 minutes or so and keep repeating until it’s all off 👍
@@chasetherainbow thanks very much mate
Oi oi 😂

That’s high praise indeed. Thank you 😊

Tell me more about the front brake upgrade please
It has a DNA brake adapter plate fitted. This allow you to run modern brakes, instead of calliper brakes, on an old school drilled fork.
