Heretic Knives ROC - Stabnana Edition - Quick unboxing
Is this a banana in my pocket or am I just happy to see you?
BOTH!
I’m so excited about this I had to do one of these unboxing videos. This thing is pretty hilariously awesome. This was a limited run of the Heretic Knives “ROC”. I have been wanting one for a while, but as soon as they started doing different versions I decided to wait for the right version. This is it.
My only suggestion would be to make a version with a textured (stonewashed) off-white “inside of the banana” colored blade, complete with its own “bruising” as well, so when deployed it would appear like a peeled banana 🍌🔪.

    I actually bought a copper natrix to force a patina on, and EVERY screw 1) had more locktite on it than any other knife I’ve opened, 2) it was red locktite. I couldn’t get it open no matter how long I had it on the hair drier. Ended up using a soldering iron on the screws. It broke 4 bits and I kept grinding them, by the end I had one bit, barely functional.

    Did you ever get any roof rack leaks? I just picked up an 07 and the roof was leaking so I did the roof rack delete because there’s just too many sandwiched pieces that can leak in my opinion. This one looks a lot more straight forward and I like that it’s low profile too so I think it’ll be my next purchase.

    • @NWEDC
      @NWEDC ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope! No roof rack leaks. I have found my windshield seal is slowly leaking at the bottom passenger side, and it’s leaking into… and filling, my blower. If I had to do it over, I’d drop the extra money for the aluminum version. The additional roof weight is noticeable when swaying back and fourth on the trails. Mine has also been dinged up on the mountain and those dings rusted before I could get home to treat them.

      The scales are the raw aluminum with no cerakote applied, so I couldn’t give you an educated answer on OG’s application, but with my other knives, I’ve noticed they all end up showing wear with use over time, regardless of frequency or how careful I am with them.

    I'm not sure what it is with the construction, but there are certain kinds of button locks and how they engage that make them more prone to failure vs. other kinds. It's definitely a shame because the ease of use and fidgetability make them very attractive. I've had some that are rock solid and others that fail with the slightest bump but I wish I knew what type of mechanism tends to fail so I could avoid those instead of having to be suspicious of all button locks in general.

    • @NWEDC
      @NWEDC ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I can’t seem to see why it’s happening, I mean the construction is nearly identical. There’s no “oh, this one obviously has play in the lock” or “oh the stop is too small”, they all look fine, yet one I can fail by simply pressing on the back of the blade, and one i’d have to use a hammer on to fail. So bizarre. I’d love to get my hands on a fully functioning thunderbird and compare the guts.

    I love large folders so this appealed to me right away. I'm also looking for my first sheepsfoot blade for the collection so there's a lot going on for me, adding the robust liners and micarta being one of my favourite handle material. Plus there's something extra when a large knife like this has the fidget factor, I'll be keeping my eye on it for when it becomes available in Canada.

    • @NWEDC
      @NWEDC ปีที่แล้ว

      Same! There’s something about a pocket knife teetering on the edge between that and a pocket cleaver that really appeals to me. The Kizer Towser K is another awesome modified sheepsfoot knife I’d recommend checking out. It’s one of my all time faves.
