    I can tell you that Garritan CFX is the only VSTi that can truly sound like a real piano. A friend of mine secretly recorded Chopin and Liszt with it and nobody could imagine that it was not an acoustic recording.

    • @heisenbergwalter3363
      @heisenbergwalter3363 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if the only criterion is realism, the steinway walnut is at least as good as garritan. But Garritan is much more playable. Anyway, they are all samples pianos, so what we hear is the sound of a real piano, you can trick people with all of them. So the criterion to evaluate them, is more playability.

      @@heisenbergwalter3363 Garritan is the only sample library that can trick melomaniacs AND sound engineers. A friend of mine recorded a complete classical album with it and nobody ever thought it was not a real grand piano. No other VST is capable of doing that, also not VSL Fazioli, Steinway Walnut library is no compare at all. Walnut sounds over saturated, pedalling is unnatural and as with all Kontakt piano libraries, legato is unnatural as well. As a sound engineer I wished I could help Garritan to go to the other level and record legendary piano's like Chopin's own Pleyel grand piano or Horowitz's CD95 Steinway.

    Nice comparison! You really should also listen to or try the VSL Synchron Yamaha (CFX). They offer a demo. I have many of the major well known piano vsts, probably more than I care to admit. In my opinion, the VSL pianos are currently and arguably the best sounding out there, especially their Yamaha which is my favorite. The only drawbacks are you need a decently fast computer, the HUGE amount of space taken up on your SSD, and Cost (wait for their sales). You may or may not agree, but I feel it is worth a listen or trial at least. It’s the first vst that I can get lost in while playing. I quite like their Bosendorfer 280VC as well.

    For me it's really a matter of preference. None of them are objectively bad, they all sound different. The main difference I notice is the spacial aspect or how close to me they feel, with the Walker 1955 sounding very close and intimate (like if my head was under the lid) and the Sounnicouture Steinway D being very distant. The CFX and Ravenscroft have more of a concert hall sound, and the IS Steinway sounds more like a studio recording, but the bass resonates a bit like the lid isn't fully open. I personnally like the CFX the most, but because I'm used to Yamahas. The Bechstein sounded good too, a bit brighter.

    Oh I haven't seen your last video with this C7 Grand vst, thank you for pointing me to it in the other comment, I really appreciate your help! I think you play really great, I wish I could improvise just half as good as you :D I'm only composing at the moment, and I'm still trying to learn play at least some easier pop accompaniment patterns in all keys for start, and I will see where I will be able to go from there. I'm really noob at jazz, but I will try learning at least some basic jazzy pop because I really like some jazz chords but I can't do the swing right yet. It feels super different from classical time, I'm not sure how to describe it but it feels like an imprecise time and for me (ex-classical organist, wannabe-poppianocomposer) is a challenge to learn to play in true swing feel (as opposed to play classical style triplet feel which is not swingy). How do jazz pianist practice the swing feel when they learn it? Do you have some technical exercise you did when you were a beginner starting to learn jazz seriously, maybe some tricky metronome exercise, or simply listening a lot of swing feel jazz music will make get the swingy feel right after some time? Thank you so much for your tips/help. Truly appreciated! I hope you have a nice day :)

    • @tim.studiorecords120
      @tim.studiorecords120 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for the late reply! I also studied only classic music - I did some self learning on jazz, but mainly I got accustomed to jazz styles though a lot of listening. You can learn the notes from particular jazz piano pieces and play along with the recording, repeating the swing and other techniques.

      @@tim.studiorecords120 Thank you. I found a Yamaha C7 plugin (AcousticSamples C7 Grand) that sounds pretty nice IMO, although I'm a little bit worried about its playability, like some notes might stick out when I try to make a crescendo and instead of crescendo it will sound like a switch from mezzoforte to forte, or maybe it will sound like I play accent notes or things like that. What is your experience about the playability of this UVI Key Suite? And do you know AcousticSamples C7 Grand? Have you tried it, if you have, what is your opinion about its playability?
