Trolling Motor Battery Selection | Series vs Parallel
With the push of lithium marine batteries in recent years, options for powering trolling motors and electronics have expanded immensely. No longer are lead batteries the only option, and now, 12V batteries are not the only option either.
In this video I go over some of the considerations when buying trolling motor batteries and deciding whether to purchase 12V batteries to wire in series, or 24/36V batteries as standalone batteries or wired in parallel.

    Great vid, thanks! Since my 2012 HDS-9 gen 2 side scan sonar transducer are cracked (but Its working) Im about to upgrade with a new 1000 usd-ish unit, mostly for better and more acccurate sidescan. (Fishing mostly 0-15 meters fresh water). Maps (not too important) and some down sonar will be mainly on the HDS... For what I hear, the Hummings are a bit better on sidescan due to the Mega and there are lots of settings to be done if you want to dig deep into It. Lowrance are maybe (?) a lot easier to dial in right out of the box and has Its advantages of course. Find my HDS a bit lag-ish and not too responsive. To come to the point, I would appreciate any/your thoughts on the reliability of the three brands. Software, support, quality of the transducers, bugs/resets, and stuf. // M

    • @patrickzajdel
      @patrickzajdel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve found Garmin to be most user friendly personally and least buggy. Humminbird as of late have had some struggles with updates and quality. All three brands have a great side imaging now since all are in the Megahertz range. With Garmin, you want the GT56 transducer. With Lowrance you want the HDS Pro units with the Active Imaging 3-in-1 HD transducer.

    What’s the bottom end for pitching with the 7’6xh? Can you toss a 1/2ounce tungsten with a creature or is it too stiff for that? Also, would you consider the 7’6xh good for frogs too?

    • @patrickzajdel
      @patrickzajdel 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For me personally I find that it does really well with a 3/4oz. You can get away with a 1/2oz if you need to with a larger bait, but the 7’6h would be better suited for that. Do you have any experience with the 7'11 XHF? I'm looking for a versatile rod that can throw 1oz+ jigs in deep water (up to 40-60') but also work for pitching/punching cover and smaller swimbaits in the 6" range. Don't want a broomstick though! The 7'7 H I've heard really good things about but it sounds a bit redundant with my Dobyns 764C, looking for something that can handle a tad heavier even if my 764 is pretty much always throwing a 1oz Carolina rig.

    • @patrickzajdel
      @patrickzajdel 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most definitely do! It's one of the better heavy weight pitching and punching rods. For me, I opted for the 7'6XH and 7'7H for how I fish, and wanted to keep it in that seven and a half foot range for consistency with my other rods for pitching and punching. I do however think that the 7'7H is a better action for swimbaits, but the 7'11XH is a great punch and heavy jig rod.

      @GoodByeSeeYou 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@patrickzajdel Nice good to know! What would you consider the true weight ratings on both the 7'11 and the 7'7? I guess I probably just have to pick if I want more of a focus on jigs/bottom contact or swimbaits huh. I'm assuming the 7'7 would be a bit more versatile overall and better for swimjigs and A-Rigs? Also I've never pitched with a rod over 7'6 so is the 7'11 more difficult than a shorter rod for that?

    Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! I recently purchased a new G3 Gator Tough SC17 with a Yamaha 70HP. I plan to fish small to medium lakes and rivers for crappie and bream for the most part. I’m considering installing a Lowrance FS 9 fish finder with active imaging 3-in-1 Transducer near the steering column. Any suggestions on the selection of a unit for the front of the boat or suggestions in general?

      @patrickzajdel 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Congratulations on your new boat! I think when it comes to a dual graph setup (1 at console, 1 at bow) it is very advantageous to stick with the same brand. Doing so will allow you to network your two units together to share data between them, such as waypoints, routes, tracks.

      Garmin is definitely the leader in FFS. And if you plan on using your bow unit strictly for FFS, then you may not be interested in networking that unit with the console. In that case, a stand-alone Garmin on the front of the boat would be a great choice!

    Great content - Thank you! ( I see you're fishing "my river" 🙂) I started off with a (low budget) Garmin 95SV and wanted better side-imaging so I moved to a Helix 9 G3N. I then moved to a Garmin 106SV but found it's imaging quality did not match the Helix. So, I have another (Radio World) move planned, not a cheap one. The dilemma: Solix/Apex vs. HDS Pro. I’ve also seen you recommend the 7’ L. Would you say it’s less powerful than the 6’10 ML, like the name suggests. Or maybe more powerful due to the increased length?
