thanks for the videos as always! I am curious is your EQ settings on thetis set to default or do you have that and cakewalk working together ?
Hey Nick! I am using both Cakewalk and Thetis audio tools together. For this profile I am using 2dB of compression (selected and adjusted on the Thetis main screen) then CFC Enable and Post -CFC EQ Enable. Both CFC I use slightly just to tighten up the low audio frequencies and to smooth out the high frequencies. I'm trying to get an old school 1970's AM broadcast sound. Sightly muted highs, warm mid lows, and a tiny bit of distortion. If done properly, a little bit of distortion can sound very nice.

Hello Justin. Hopefully it wont get any worse. Not only do I love both HAM and CB, I enjoy late night shortwave radio listening.
I've heard the same thing in Virginia
I have the same Power Line noise at my Home QTH in FL. Try a Right Mouse Click on the NB and you could make adjustments.
Hi Darren. It's usually pretty quiet here as far as the power line noise goes except for tonight. The temperature is nearing 0 deg F and when that happens I notice that the power lines and communication lines become tight as a drum. Maybe a loose connection on the pole somewhere? I'll check out the right click on the NB button tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by!

My grandpa was into radios back in.his day. He usto catch alot of paranormal voices he recorded 3 of them if you wer to listen to them 3 voices he caught you will haave chills
I've heard of people tying to catch paranormal activity on the old school analog TV's tuned to a blank station. Creeeeeepy!
Have you ever listen to anything weird before anything with spirit realm ?
Sometimes when I'm plugged into a dummy load I swear I can sometimes hear faint voices. 3 possibilities. 1) A strong radio signal of someone transmitting in the area. 2) I'm so used to hearing people taking on the band my ears are playing tricks on me and I'm loosing my mind😵💫 . 3) 👻 Interesting fact is that that a certain percentage white noise that is heard when tuned to a blank station is cosmic in nature from our Milky Way galaxy. Pretty cool!
Hi I want to thank you for help me with my recive audio can you help me with the transmit audio I would like to use voicemeeter banana. A block diagram would be nice so i can take a picture of it thanks keep up the good work you are doing
Hey bud. Right now I am not using voicemeeter banana. I have it downloaded and ready to install but for now, keeping it simple as in this video is working just fine for me. I might mess around with it on my other computer though.
@@KP68videogates ok when you are ready I will be here, keep up the good work you are doing , I am always lookin foward to your videos
Install Voicemeeter . Make the Scarlett the A1 sound interface output Make Voicemeeter the default input and output device for your system. Make the Scarlet the input device for track 1 on Voicemeeter. Connect Thetis via ASIO to one of the Voicemeeter busses Use a patch insert on say track 1 in Voicemeeter to insert your DAW Done. No reason to use analog inputs with Thetis You can then use Voicemeeter (Potato is worth it) with OBS for streaming as well and with any other apps, video conferencing etc.
Hello there good Sir. Sure there's no reason to use analog inputs with Thetis but at the same time for me, there is no reason to use Voicemeter either. BUT, I am not ruling it out and it is on my next to do list. In fact I might download it today and toy around with it. THANK YOU Sir for the instructions! I'll give it a shot.
I’m getting closer KP , I’m working with just a mini pc and a Hermes , still trying to transmit the cake walk audio . I can’t thank you enough for your videos !!! I feel I’m almost there
No problem my friend. I know it can be quite frustrating at first, but once you get it working it will be awesome!
I dont know if I missed it, but why do I want to run cakewalk? Does it add a lot of lag? Thanks
You don't have to run cakewalk. You can use any audio processing that suits you best or non at all and just use Thetis audio tools which are amazing. As far as lag or latency goes with Cakewalk, my computer is lightning fast and I have no such issues.
I see a nice stack of analog gear. You like the daw route better? I too have an expensive stack collecting dust. The daw is hard to beat!
Damn, I hate to admit it but yes, collecting dust lol. The rack gear is pretty much bullet proof but all in all the benefits/pros of the DAW far outweigh the pros of the rack gear.
@KP68videogates I fully agree. Awesome videos my friend. Keep em going. 73s. RC120 ✌️
How do I get my cakewalk audio to go through Thetis ? I lost on how that works . Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!! I’m computer illiterate and having a hard time getting my audio down for my HL2

Hello KP68videogates, what speaker system do you use, the reson I want to know is that you get nothing coming out of your speakers when you transmit, I have to use small usb speakers connected to the computer or I will hear myself through another the plug into house main thanks for your help keep up the good work I have learned a lot from you.
Hello! I use my JBL soundbar which connects to my computer with an HDMI cable, then in my computer settings I have the audio (Thetis receive audio) routed to HDMI out. I have Cakewalk permanently set to speakers OUT which loops back into line IN with a small patch cable. If you haven't seen it, here is the video where I try to explain how I do it. th-cam.com/video/YiSv3-7XQ9M/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching my videos. I'll try to keep the madness going lol.
@@KP68videogates Thank you so much
Nice song selection for this test! I have found the only downside to running PS while operating AM is that when monitoring with the Thetis MON function you lose headphone audio through one side. The transmitted THD improves markedly with PS enabled. I thought that Pure Signal might interpret asymmetry as distortion and cancel out positive peaks above 100% but that is not the case. With an AM carrier level of 100 it is impossible to reach 100% modulation in the negative direction (perfect digital negative peak limiting) with no restraint in the positive direction. AM operation is terrific with the Thetis software platform. 73 de W1AEX
Sorry for the late reply! Very interesting about the Pure signal and asymmetry. I'll download the REA AM monitor on my new computer here and run some experiments.
What mic do you recommend for the Hermes? Just ordered mine.
Hello sir. Because there are so many variables, it's a tough question to answer. If you are just getting into this I would recommend a dynamic mic at a price point of a $100 or less. I still have my Shure SM58 and it's a great mic at about $100. I've heard some $50 mics that sound very nice but in general you get what you pay for so don't go too cheap. In the end, whether it be a $50 mic or a $500 mic, most of it depends audio processing. I've heard very expensive mics sound horrible because of improperly set audio processing (like me🤪 lol) and a $50 mic sound great with proper audio processing. Whichever mic you decide on, get settled in with it and over time you'll be able to get a feel what you like or dislike about it and then you'll know what to look for in a mic if you decide to upgrade.
@ In the video you done with the Hermes with no processed audio was you using the SM 58? I was in the flex world years ago, got out of the hobby and now coming back in.
@@tyjohnson6553 That was my Electrovoice RE320 and still is. Before that was my RE20 and before that was my SM58 and before that was my Shure SM57. The only mic that I didn't care for was the Shure SM57. As you can see, I went through a few before settling into my RE320.
WOW!!!!!!
I believe the FCC stipulates that with the mode in use a bandwidth no wider than required in order to communicate is to be used. In other words, no hi-fi. FCC Part 97 rules and regs 97.307: "(a) No amateur station transmission shall occupy more bandwidth than necessary for the information rate and emission type being transmitted, in accordance with good amateur practice."
"In other words, no hi-fi" Absolutely false.
WTF
Not sure what you mean but keep on rocking!
I always regarded the old telephone bandwidth or 300 to 3400 as your basic voice bandwidth, but was surprised when I saw radio's that dropped it down to 2K, that seemed to be over doing it in my book.
Ya, narrowing down to 2k is a bit narrow for my ears but to each their own.
Is cakewalk just a platform like live professor and you have to install the plug ins? Or does it have it all to start?
Hey there rockhaller. Cakewalk has it all to start and it's all free, everything you need to sound great. Third party plugins also work with Cakewalk but you have purchase them, although some you can find for free. Me personally, I don't mind spending money on certain third party plugins that are extremely useful. For example, some of the plugins that I bought are the PAZ analyzer and my VU meters. Here is a link to where I go to purchase plugins. www.waves.com/plugins#sort:path~type~order=.default-order~number~asc|views:view=grid-view|paging:currentPage=0|paging:number=18

I'm also curious what his receive and transmit bandwidth were set to bandwidth wise along with your settings for Var1 on LSB.

@@megamind2289 We were both transmitting and receiving 5kc. The VAR button was lit because I manually stretched out my receive filter a little bit past 5kc to 5055. We were experimenting with various transmit bandwidths and after we were done experimenting, I forgot to click on the 5k receive filter button. I always try to match my receive bandpass filter to the transmitting stations transmit bandpass both on the high audio frequencies and the low audio frequencies.
Why are you using VAC?
For receive audio. Unchecked/OFF there is no receive audio.

Assuming you're not transmitting from both transceivers at the same time, why not run everything from one power supply?
Hello there RogerWilco486. I misspoke. I had the Icom on the crap power supply. I don't always need full station power up and depending on what I'm doing up here, I might only need half of my station powered. Also, I like to have independent power for my experiments.

Wow very surprised at how well that signal stayed at 9lbs that whole conversation. You were solid 8. I watched an older video and signal wasn’t that good
Ok, I watched an older video as well and I can confirm that this antenna at that height gets you at least 1 s-unit higher than the other antennas. I can't remember how high you had the other antennas.
