The joy of riding a light motorcycle. Advantages and disadvantages.
It is so much fun to ride a light bike, though it's not all sparkling fun. Talking about some of the advantages and disadvantages. I've ridden an F750GS weighing 590 pounds with gear, and at the other end of the spectrum a 50cc Honda Ruckus weighing 220 pounds with gear, and a few bikes in between.

    Until there’s lots of wind or something hits you

    • @BlueAlgon
      @BlueAlgon 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well, one day I was returning from a day trip on my F750GS and was caught in a very severe thunderstorm. The gusts of wind were so strong I had to literally hug the gas tank to reduce my side profile and fight to keep the bike in the lane on the expressway. Eventually I had to get off the highway and take the streets - that were littered with twigs, branches, leaves. So yes, if I'd been on the CB300R, the wind would sweep me off the highway, no doubt. At the same time, I was in very strong winds on the CB300R and my Vespa scooter and was OK - of course was not on the highways, just regular roads and reduced speed. So a light bike is OK in a strong wind, just don't take it on a highway and ride slower. If the wind is so strong that it threatens your safety...get off the xxxing bike and wait it out. "...or something hits you". Like what? If you get hit by a much heavier vehicle, you're going down anyway, and a heavy bike can crush your body. A light bike can bruise your body. If you hit a deer or a very small animal, then yes - perhaps a heavy bike gives you an edge there. How heavy do you have to go to get that edge?

      It depends, eh? Not saying that large bikes have no good uses. I'm just trying to say that light bikes can be overlooked by people unnecessarily. I had F750GS and it was so comfy to ride, even (for me) longish distances (though the air turbulences off the windscreens were rattling my brain regardless of what screen and lip combos I tried). But for me it was heavy and too much hassle to handle when exploring roads. Also, didn't need all that HP with our 80 kph speed limits.

    Hello Michael I do like your videos about your CB. One other thing is motorcycle companies have an incentive to sell a $20000 motorcycle over a $5000 motorcycle. Their advertising purpose is to create a lifestyle image. Same as with the pickup trucks. One legitimate problem with smaller motorcycles is they can be too small and uncomfortable for taller riders. I'm struggling with this with my Yamaha Nmax 155 scooter now. It will do my 60km commute to the office including expressway with no problems. But at 188cm my legs are getting cramped up.

    • @BlueAlgon
      @BlueAlgon 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello Michael (is there an echo? 🙂). Thanks for the comments. Yes, agree. As to scooters and Asian motorcycles: I've set on many scooter at bike shows and at dealers, and found that Asian scooters are not made for tall people. I co-own a PCX155 scooter in the Czech Republic and find it not the best for tall people. There is foot space on the boards, but the knees (of a tall person) are too high putting a strain on the lower back. Scooters accommodating tall people quite well are Vespas and Piagios. I've head two Vespa 300GTS and they fit my 6'1 and 32" inseam very well. Cheers, Michael

    Due to the hardness of your saddle, there is an air cushion from Airhawk especially for motorcycles and for people who sit in a wheelchair all day. You can inflate it with a built-in valve or deflate it while you are on the road, it is certainly not the intention to make this air cushion rock hard. a little air is sufficient and adapts completely to your butt. I use it myself and am very satisfied with it. I can't post a link because then TH-cam will delete the entire message. regards

    I once submitted this phenomenon to chatgpt, and this was the answer 🤔. In the motorcycling world, this disdain often stems from a culture in which larger motorcycles with more power are seen as more prestigious or a sign of greater experience and skill. This can lead to a kind of elitist behavior among motorcyclists, where smaller motorcycles are considered inferior. This attitude can be described as **motorcycle snobbery** or **cylinder snobbery**. It is a form of snobbery in which someone views their own motorcycle (usually a larger or more powerful one) as superior and judges others based on the size or power of their motorcycle. Reasons for this attitude may be: - **Prestige and status**: Larger motorcycles are often associated with higher social status within the motorcycling community. - **Perception of experience**: There is an assumption that more experienced riders can and want to ride larger and more powerful motorcycles. - **Adrenaline and Speed**: Some motorcyclists appreciate the speed and power of larger motorcycles and consider them more exciting or challenging. - **Macho culture**: In some subcultures within the motorcycle world, a macho culture plays a role, in which the strength and size of the motorcycle are equated with masculinity. However, this dismissive attitude is unjustified, as driving pleasure and skill are not directly linked to engine size. Many riders thoroughly enjoy riding smaller bikes and these can be just as capable and fun in the right context.

    • @BlueAlgon

      Yeah, sounds very true. In no doubt this is a consequence of how nature configured the male - the provider for the family/clan/pack on whose power the survival of the family depends. In that sense "bigger", "stronger", "more powerful" is better. Of course, we were also provided with a thinking part of the brain to be smart about it and the spirit to be intelligent about it; to discern when it is wise to apply and when not. Looks like some folks can't tell...<shrug>. Interestingly, some women have fallen for this "bigger-is-better", too.

      They are Nelson-Rigg. Link: www.nelsonrigg.com/motorcycle-luggage/motorcycle-saddlebags/cl-890-mini-expandable-sport-motorcycle-saddlebags-detail They fit well size-wise, though I attached them poorly and they shifted during a ride and got destroyed by the rear tire and the silencer. If you put them on your bike without a pannier frame, you need to make sure there is some support to prevent the panniers from swinging towards the rear tire. On my previous bike I used bungie cords between the pillion foot pegs and the rear luggage carrier to form this kind of support. Cheers.

      Hello and thanks for the comments. Well, I’d hope my speaking would put you into a meditative state 😊. Meditating is my thing and a meditative mind doesn’t rattle off like a machine gun. On top of that, as you can tell English is my second language and spontaneously speaking on a camera when brevity and to-the-point-ness are important is not always easy. You can see car reviews by Doug DeMuro. He speaks with the cadence of a modern machine gun. But a mind that speaks fast often speaks ahead of awareness and that leads to unnecessary babbling. Not Belgian; rather a product of the land that issues certified Czechs (though sometimes cancelled and bounced too). Cheers.

      No connections to any temples. The Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita have been enjoyed very much. As it is said, as the level of truth gets higher and higher, it becomes more united and universal. And, as Dr. David Hawkins said, the teachings of the ancient Indian avatars and recent enlightened mystics are the same. No ideology here, my friend. Cheers.

    hi Michael, I’m looking to get this bike and I heard that you replaced the plastics to your bike. I wanted to ask what parts you needed to replace the plastics just for the color swap. I want the red one and I don’t know how many plastic parts come with the set. Great video please let me know if you can provide that information for me.

      Hi Mikael. It is three parts: the right and left tank cover assembly and the front fender. Here is a copy of the part names from the dealers invoice; just bear in mind they are yellow: 61000K0AEB0ZA:FENDER SET, FR. (WL) *TYPE4* 64445K0AEB0ZA:Honda COVER ASSY., L. FU 64435K0AEB0ZA:Honda COVER ASSY., R. F. Cheers.

      Hello. Please shoot a video of you doing it in half of the time I did and post the link. I conditioned my claim by saying "with an amateur rider". I was cranking the throttle wide open and revving it to the red line. Perhaps the initial start could have been improved by revving the engine and dumping the clutch, but no normal riders drive like that. Thus I stand by my claim. This bike is purchased by normal folks not pro racers, undoubtedly. Cheers.

    Agreed. Just a few notes, more of digression. Might be interesting for shaping someone's training. _Note 1:_ in one of official textbooks on training there is an interesting statement. Paraphrasing it: the only way to make a bone stronger is by loading it with weight. That is VERY important to know. However it does not say the measure of that loading. It is as much important as loading itself IMO. But the basic conclusion is you need SOME weights if you want your bones strong. For women that might be specially important because their bone strength diminish more then men bones. Understandably, you need to use moderate weights with all other factors: proper training, proper food at least. _Note 2:_ there are next to ZERO scientific research on bad influence of various professional athletes training on athletes old age health: bone status, illness, whatever. If you find some data that would be very rare, maybe some small remark in some conference texts. That speaks a lot about BAD influence of high intensity training of any sort. Not just weights. It is similar situation as with pharmacy mafia v***ines - they do not investigate long term effects, not in 10 years, not in old age - never. Also there is no conclusive research on GOOD influence of the same. Here is the excerpt from a study about kettlebell training: _Significant clinically meaningful _*_moderate to large effects have been reported_*_ from pragmatic hardstyle kettlebell training in older adults with Parkinson’s disease and older females with sarcopenia. _*_While confidence in reported effects however remains low to very low,_*_ and strength of recommendation only weakly in support of kettlebell training until effects have been reliability repeated in high-quality trials, the opportunities within primary care remain promising._

      Hello Slavne and thanks for the comments. When looking at what you wrote about the importance of doing some weights for stronger bones, I am getting a negative answer, as in not necessary. However, what is necessary is exercising all the body parts on a daily bases - setting, say, 20 minutes aside and doing some reps of moving all the various parts of the body; gravity and natural weight of the body parts are enough. Plus walking, plus supplying the necessary nutrients to support the bones. Cheers.

    Strength is never a weakness, and weakness is never a strength. Go use your body, and stop trying to manipulate the future. Your remarks about training intensity makes zero sense logically, as you recommend higher volume (hypertrophic work) with a lower load. You would potentially increase your bodymass. Increasing the potential for strength with greater muscle mass, without necessarily getting stronger. It's completely opposite to what you would recommend someone who wanted to maintain a healthy strengthlevel - which is higher intensity and lower volume. "No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable."

      Hello. Your answer is what exactly fits someone associated with military, in whatever way it may be. This is meant in a neutral way, neither good nor bad. Your answer completely misses the point of my talk and mixes up things. I mean this in a friendly and very respectful yet honest way. This miss of the point of my talk has occurred because you approach the subject from a different direction. Again, neither good or bad, nor wrong or right. Just different. Cheers

    It all depends on what you define as being negative and positive. There are some profoundly worrying things happening in my country right now. I have two daughters and I worry about their future. I am etremely angry at the evil people who are running / ruining my country now. I spend a good deal of time staying in touch with what is going on and what is going on is not good. Am I being negative? Should I just burry my head in the sand and think happy thoughts?

    • @BlueAlgon
      @BlueAlgon 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello,. You are emotionally invested in the drama that is happening there. It's understandable. It just is not healthy and does absolutely nothing to help you, them, or the situation. Of course, a concern for someone 's wellbeing is natural, and is different from worry. Spiritual teachers recommend neutral, detached, non judgemental observation of events. For the human ego this is hard to do, but for the human spirit it is natural. Cheers.
