Using my TEAC A-4300 as a tape echo. Dub session of quicksand , running elements through 7 1/2 and 3 3/4 ips . Aux 1out to line in of reel to reel. Send line output to input on mixer. On return raise the aux and feed it back on itself , becareful with the gain, go low go slow !
How to connect delay/effects to Tascam Model 12: Aux 1 and Sub-Output
มุมมอง 1.4Kหลายเดือนก่อน
When I first got the Tascam Model 12 ,I wanted to run effects through it. Naturally after some time I wanted more sends, so I figured to utilize the sub out put of the Tascam Model 12( as seen in my oldest video at a recording studio). With proper gain staging , it is just a matter of some connections. At first I did not know the difference between balanced and unbalanced cables. I experimented...

Wollensak 1520 AV(1962) in Dub w/Tascam Model 12
I work a lot in Dub fusion. I really like the traditional Dub sound that this unit pushes towards. I’m thinking it might be just what I’m looking for. Thanks for sharing ✌️
Dude dude please let me know how did you manage to remove the knobs on the Tascam Model 12. I have exactly the same caps and wasn't able to remove the knobs in it....it seems too hard and I am afraid to force it.... please please helo me out.
@@lopezchau I broke my first tascam 12 doing it so I can’t really give out advice straight up I damaged my second one and that was the third one that I got my hands on
@@Tomalo-Dub Thank you anyways....but at least it was on the front panel? does knobs have a cap to remove? which tool to you find it more useful?
@@Tomalo-Dub Yeah, I bet you did! I have worked with it and attempted to remove them, and the only way I can see how to, would be to use a pair of pliers and possibly damage the unit. It looks like there are clips holding the knobs down. I've never seen anything like it.
You should at least list the equipment you’re using with the model 12 so we can mimic what you’re doing to gain experience.
@@jerrykelley9266 big thanks for watching and for the suggestion! On the other videos you can go seeing. It’s pretty much delay and reverb sent through the auxs
just figured out a way to send an ipad usb-c signal into the model 12, out through fx (thanks to this video) back into the tascam and back into the ipad without a feedback loop. using 1&2 pc mode for ipad sound faders at 0, sound from ipad to 7/8 input for clean channel. out the aux 1 to a chase bliss pedal TS, back into channel 6 for fx channel. goes back into the ipad using 1&2 and the the monitor on ipad as channel 3 with no volume since you are using headphones on the model 12. allows recording on the ipad and model 12 at the same time and you can screen record also but of course the audio is not in the screen recording. thanks for posting, the ah moment would not have happened otherwise. almost sold the mixer this week for this reason
@@michaelnervOus dude that signal flow sounds awesome , big thanks for explaining it . I have just started messing with logic and the model 12 recently. First time switching pc mode on the three way selector 😵💫 I am glad this helped out thank you for taking your time to check it out!
@@Tomalo-Dub That is great that you are getting to use hat feature, it is quite handy. Logic on Ipad or Mac?
I did record a video on the setup for recording into the ipad from a synth in the ipad out the model 12 through fx and back into the ipad with no feedback loop. it's not a thought out video, just me on the phone showing the setup. it would work with logic as well
@@Tomalo-Dub I put a link on my channel (last video) to this video. Thanks again for explaining your setup. my setup is quite different but something in your video made me think of it while watching. I had given up on the 12 and thought it was just not possible to loop to an ipad.
@@michaelnervOus going to be on a 2020 MacBook for now. The iPad idea seems awesome. I originally made dub on my iPhone about 4 years ago using GarageBand
On the model 16 can you use it as an audio interface and get 16 inputs?
@@ReginaldReggSmith unfortunately I never really connected to 16 while I had it to a daw. I know that the model 12 plays back on either Channels 1/2 or 9/10 giving you 8 in. I have just recently upgraded to logic so I am checking it out most definitely. I have gotten to connect it as a control surface
@ Yeah I’m just curious if you can connect to your daw and track in 6 synths on separate inputs at the same time inside the daw lol. Please let me know
@ I don’t want to speak too soon but I’m pretty sure you can track 6 going in , no doubt ! I’ve used this to just put my multitracks to the sd and run it like that. My daw has some latency , trying to get cracking with the logic and 12.
Meditation Levitation! That washing percussion is so cleansing. Man, I got a lot to learn about sonics. I grew up with PA's hard to get used to near/mid field monitoring.
@@ZANE.3am I realized I have my monitors set up wrong. I am hoping to get a room soon where the will be placed on stands 3ft away from the wall but isolated from the desk. You have the advantage because you can mix with the live sound experience and make the dub huge. Big thanks 🙏 always appreciated !
@@ZANE.3am I have maybe played out a few times very short periods 😂🤣 I massacred people with the 2k frequencies with the delays and reverbs, I wish I had live sound experience so I could apply it to the dub so it sounds pleasant and not abrasive
@@Tomalo-Dub I grew up as a listener to a huge PA but trying to translate that into a studio is still something I have problem with. I do have a lot of Turntablism/DJ background as well. Just less feels in the studio and more positioning attention needed it seems. Im still trying to get away with mono mixes lol 🤣
@@ZANE.3am MONO IS THE WAY !!!!!!!!
muy bueno!
@@sergio_dubgaku muchas gracias !!!!!!!!! 🙏
you know your stuff. you just upped the value of the mixer. good jam.
Nice Man Dope Setup!!
Cool video! I see you’ve figured out how to customize the knobs and sliders on the M12. I’ve seen quite a few people on forums wondering how to do this (the knobs seem to be tighter than on other mixers). I’m sure a how-to video on this topic would be widely appreciated, not just by me. Keep it up!
@@lugentaubner6853 @joshbigears was the first I saw his faders different colors. That inspired me to take off the knobs. I would make a video But am scared someone out there is going to break their model 12 , I would hate to influence that. I used a spoon to slide it under the lnob and help pry it up. As you go undoing the knobs you’ll see the whole board move. It is best to Be gentle . Let me see if I can make a video with a warning. Big thanks 🙏
Big ups
@@dw9495 respect ! 🫡
Great work, keep up 🫶
big thanks!
So is that a logic delay on all the aux1s?
@@austinwebs123 yes, most definitely. I have a small Scarlett interface that has outputs so it goes . Aux 1>interface > output into a channel return.
seasonings from the dub side. love it
respect normaleehi!
Loving your use of the model12 … is it possible to run plugins through the aux’s rather than the built in fx or outboard gear? Thx
@@austinwebs123 yes I was just thinking about this. You would go Aux out > into an interface daw > out of the interface output > back onto a channel. I’ll most likely make a video for it soon. Thanks for watching and best of luck
I just fancy dubbing with things like the sound toys echo and the audio thing spring reverb and audio thing filter that are highly rated plugins for production so to use them for dub would be ace. 👊
@ for about the last 3 days I have thought about trying to use some fx from the computer! I will most def experiment and most likely make a video. There are some pretty cool tape plug ins most def
This is some beautiful dub. I’ve literally just got a model 12 myself and it looks like I’m gonna be having more fun than I first realised.
@@FrequencyMurderation huge thank . The model 12 is like the easiest buy in for dub I feel. It is great all around. Different from the 16 and 24

thank you for taking the time to check it out!!! ❤
Nice glad the re-amp box is working for you Bigup 4 the shout!!
Thanks for this. I also figured out the use of sub, which is really handy! I do own a re-amp box but haven't used it in front of the pedals... I'm lazy and just connect sub or aux directly to the pedal. I guess I should compare. Overall, I LOVE the model 12... EXCEPT for all the inputs located at the rear of the mixer...
Big thanks for your time to watch and for the comment! definitely give it a shot with the re amp box and some gain staging. It's funny the 16 and 24 made me anxious because I felt like I was going to trip over a cable and break the inputs. Definitely model 12 for live setting is cool, if someone wraps up in the cable , , the cable flies out , no harm, hopefully! big thanks again!

Fantastic! I also have the model 12 and use the sub as my 3rd FX send! Less is more with the model 12 as it forces you to be more old school (band on 4 track, dub mixing on a 8 channel desk). I like how you get the recording spread across 5 channels and still plenty of dub options on the remaining 3! Quick qustion, are you using 2 x reverb units?
@@peterkiefel4324 I am pinning this comment, thank you . Yes there is 2 different reverbs
@Tomalo-Dub ok! I just saw another of your posts and see you have the Vermona Lancet Filter. Nice! I have vermona rack mount vintage spring verb. Trying to resist a GAS attack!
@@peterkiefel4324 how is the Vermona spring ? I completely feel you ! I bought a spring tank now and I am hurting a bit 🔥🔥🔥
@@Tomalo-Dub the vermona spring is good but not great. It is let down by only having a single tone knob, but I can compensate for it by routing in some eq on the rack
Wicked dubs! Thank you for the walkthrough, have been considering this mixer and this was really helpful.
Big thanks for watching! Model 12 is definitely nice. the 16 and 24 are a bit different ! best of luck
