    This all seems very logic on paper, but the problem in construction compared to every other example you made is the fact that every project is different. And you have to set up this "production system" everytime again with different resources, different locations etc. I feel that this is what makes implementing these systems in construction challenging.

    Hi! I have a few questions: 1. Moving a delayed activity in an area forward to keep the trade flow also "hurts" all the following subcontractors trade flow by not having a new area to work on for one takt/cycle? One takt could be several days or weeks depending on the work and they have often committed their crew to work on the site for a duration of time. If there isnt to much else to do on their "work backlog" on site and this delay comes suddenly they need to send their crew away to another site if they have any? How would you handle the situation? 2. If one subcontractor isnt committing to the time schedule, not delivering finished work on time for the following trades, eating up the project buffers etc.. How would you get them to keep the time schedule? Would you "step in", take charge and help them? Would you consider having them work over time and weekends? Would you remind them of the economical consequences of a delayed project when the buffers are gone?

    • @LeanTakt
      @LeanTakt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1. That is why we always plan workable backlog. 2. I haven’t experienced this. To your point we would address it kept happening.

    @stochastic42 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I feel like the explanation you give about creating buffers with takt is a bit misleading. I actually misunderstood it at first for this reason. It's true that breaking down work into more zones can reduce the total time to complete a project but it doesn't create a buffer per se. I mean sure it creates a buffer relative to doing things wrong, but in my experience if I were to get on a site with a 90 day schedule, create a takt plan, and reduce it to 72 days the expectation is now that I will complete it in 72 days and people will plan around that. If I then encounter a 5 day delay and the client has to delay move in until the next week they are going to be more or less as annoyed as they would have been if the 90 day schedule was delayed. Creating a takt plan is wonderful but it doesn't give you a buffer unless you schedule a buffer, just like any other system. Am I missing something?

    • @LeanTakt
      @LeanTakt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are right, but with perhaps the wrong feeling about it. You are technically right, but no other system knows how many buffers to put in. We do. Our realized flow potential formula calculates a Macro level, Norm level (with buffers) and a backup. It’s easy to say, “I’ll just schedule with buffers, but it is not practically feasible outside of the Takt formulas. With CPM it would be a wild ;$$ guess. With Takt it’s math

    • @stochastic42
      @stochastic42 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LeanTakt Thank you for the response. I'm 100% on board with you on this. I just wanted you to know that as someone who previously worked only with CPM schedules I was under the impression from watching your videos that you actually schedule a buffer into the middle of the takt schedule but when I saw your examples later you instead just delay the entire schedule to maintain your takt time which makes sense. I guess this makes sense when you consider your detailed master schedule is usually given to you as CPM so in that sense you do create a buffer.

    @stochastic42 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    In the leveling example you say you would move some of the work from the 5 day activity to the 2 day block but how does that make sense if the 2 day block is a different trade/scope. To me it makes more sense to add manpower and compress the block to 4 days that way. its not a problem that the other trade gets done in 2 days.

    • @LeanTakt
      @LeanTakt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would be fine with me as well.
