The Chateau Adventures
France
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 11 ก.ย. 2022
This is the home of Nick and Nicole who have upped sticks from their life in London to follow their dreams of renovating a derelict chateau in the Dordogne. Follow our adventures at Chateau des Vieilles Vignes, which also features on the popular channel 4 show Chateau DIY, as we take on the project of a lifetime and attempt to renovate 13,000 square feet of space with the help of friends and family.
The Grand Reveal: Our Stunning Stone Archway! EP 55
After several months of hard graft, with some fairly significant curve balls, we can finally reveal the stunning chateau archway that will link our entrance hall to the Grand Salon.

48 hours to dig ourselves out of a hole EP 54
มุมมอง 5K19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
48 hours... one mini-digger... one extra pair of hands (who knows how to operate said mini-digger)... a lot or bedrock... early mornings... late nights... too much pressure, but a glimmer of hope that we may just achieve the impossible, so that we can connect the electricity to our new living space on the first floor of the chateau.
The BIG reveal of our Christmas Chateau DIY project 2024 Ep 53
มุมมอง 4.7K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
We enlist the help of Santa's little helper to try and finalise our Christmas Chateau DIY project on time! Tomette laying proves quite the challenge, as does sampling a whole load of wine before the church bells chime midday. Join us on our latest chateau adventure as we race to finalise our Christmas Chateau DIY project in time.
Possibly the most fitting Christmas Chateau DIY Project ever? Ep 52
มุมมอง 4K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
With a very real deadline looming (finishing the Christmas project in time for it to air on UK TV), we try our very best to get it all done on time, but what seems like a straightforward project, invariably turns into something much bigger and time consuming than we had ever imagined. Who knew pointing was so much work? And who's idea was it to use a self-levelling screed? All will be revealed ...
A Christmas Chateau Adventure to St Emilion, a special announcement AND a Festive project Ep 51

We don't want to give too much away, but suffice to say, it's a festive one... with some DIY thrown in for good measure.
Has the RSJ met its match, as momentum builds at the chateau Ep 50
มุมมอง 2.8Kหลายเดือนก่อน
After the close call in the last episode, we are back to trying to lever the RSJ into place. As always, nothing is ever simple, when it comes to old chateaux. However, we do make some great progress in other parts of the chateau, as we tick off several jobs in the space of a few days, with the help of Nick's friend Jo, in addition to Curt and Brian.
The time our Chateau nearly came crumbling down Ep 49
มุมมอง 11Kหลายเดือนก่อน
It was touch and go at the chateau, as we attempted to lift a quarter ton RSJ (reinforced steel joist) into place. Things could have gone very (very) badly wrong, as the wall started to crumble away before our very eyes. We are so very glad that this didn’t happen: th-cam.com/users/shortsDNRiaXVRBgU?si=ACDpSnYQpCDFJou0
One step backwards, but progress nonetheless at the chateau Ep 48
มุมมอง 3.7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Another actioned packed episode as Brian and Nick manage to take out the second oak beam to make way for the new (old) arch, and Brian make some great progress building the arch, but not before Nick is forced to undo some of his hard work. Meanwhile Noah takes his first steps, and while Nicole darts back to London for work, Nick's good friend Adam visits, only to be thrown straight into the dee...
An unexpected flood at the chateau (not from the roof) Ep 47
มุมมอง 3.8Kหลายเดือนก่อน
With the beam out, we crack on with the main renovation of our living space, while Brian continues his sterling efforts to build the archway. We have an impromptu visit from our friend Dan and his partner Michael, but just as the sun looks like it is shining down on us, an unexpected flood spoils our plans.
All hands on deck at the chateau as we take out a half ton oak beam Ep 46
มุมมอง 3.6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Why does one job, always turn into lots of seemingly unrelated jobs? In this episode the 'simple' task of taking out an enormous oak beam, leads to a flurry of activity as Curt and Nick race against time to rip up the floor above and remove the joists ready for the mammoth task of removing the oak beam. And all that, so we can continue building the archway.
The chateau's grand archway starts to take shape Ep 45
มุมมอง 3.1K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
In our latest episode of the chateau adventures, Nick tries his hand at carpentry, following in the steps of his French grandfather, as he seeks to make the wooden form for the archway. Nicole sets to work on clearing the overgrown garden, as well as filling some big holes in our walls with lime mortar, ready for pointing. Meanwhile stone mason Brian, makes solid progress with the stone arch it...
Raising a quarter ton stone lintel and commencing the infamous arched doorway! Ep 44
มุมมอง 2.8K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this jam packed episode, our stone mason Brian and Nick manage to raise up a massive stone lintel, There's some garden work for Nicole, as well as a major clean up operation in the grand salon ready to start work on the stone archway. With the tower joists now secure, Nick sets to work laying the new OSB floor.
Securing the Chateau Tower floor at last! Ep 43
มุมมอง 6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
There is perhaps a little too much going on at the chateau in our latest episode to cram into a short description, although with Brian's help we do manage to finally secure the tower floor, as well as start work on laying the floor and heightening the doorway. It's one of those rare occasions when things actually (almost) go to plan.
Noah's first Christmas Ep 42
มุมมอง 2.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
As 2023 draws to a close, we leave the chateau and all our hard work behind to celebrate Noah's very first Christmas. We first visit Nick's family in the UK before heading to Sweden where we are fortunate enough to experience a white Christmas! Back at the chateau, we are straight back on the DIY, with our to do list growing ever longer by the day.
A very (VERY) long day renovating at the chateau Ep 41
มุมมอง 4.1K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
With Curt due to head home from the chateau any day, we made the most of having him on site to finish some important jobs, although it did mean one very (very) late finish for Nick. We also made use of a lightweight screed (a mix of vermiculite and other minerals, instead of sand) to create the base for the shower tray in the new bathroom, under the watchful eye of Nicole and Noah. And as we sa...

Because of the way you’re holding the camera, everything else except your face was out of focus.; your head occupying most of the screen. Also, most of the time the top half of your face was not even in the picture.
I know 🫣 I was very sleep deprived when I took that one. Almost didn’t include it, but then thought the info was useful for viewers… will do better next time.
Un amour adorable ❤❤❤😊
🥰☺️
❤
☺️
It’s absolutely gorgeous! Great job! ✨🌞✨
Thank you. 🙏🏼 ☺️ and thank you Brian!! 🙌🏼
I might use those existing door openings for pantries. Heavy equipment makes short work of removing materials. Wise choice.
It’s not a bad idea. We have quite a few of those doorway/pantries scattered around the chateau, including a couple in that space so we probably don’t need the additional ones (famous last words). I dread to think how long and painful it would have been to clear that rubble by hand.
It’ll looks magnificent. Thank you for sharing.❤
Thank you ☺️
I realize that this was shot months ago, and perhaps your video skills have grown since then, but... It would be so much better video if you just showed us what you are talking about. With your face taking up most of the screen the things you are talking about are out of focus and mostly obscured. You are making amazing progress and it would be nice to be able to see more of it.
No you aren't being rude. Tony nice face but trying to visualize your rooms, the layout is obscured at times. Lovely arch entry.
That is totally fair enough. I think I was very sleep deprived when filming that one. I almost didn’t include that video when editing the other day but it had some useful info worth sharing so decided to keep it in. Will ensure to include more background visuals going forwards ☺️ Thanks for the feedback. 😊
I’m not sure where I was pointing that camera 🫣 no one wants or needs to see my face that close up 😳 glad you like the arch! 😊
❤️what you’re doing❣️
☺️🙏🏼 thank you
Magnifique arche.
Nice to see it all come together after all your hard graft.
Thank you. We are super pleased with the result 😊🎉
I'm not sure about the etymology of the word "milestone," but both literally and figuratively this video chronicles a milestone in your chateau adventure.
That is very true. Thanks Seth ☺️ It was such a strange sensation walking through the arch that was once a solid stone wall (although which was also once an archway a long time ago!). It would be fun to have a Time Machine to revisit the different structures of the chateau over the centuries.
Archway looking good
Thank you. We are really pleased with the result. ☺️
You work so hard. It will pay off. It always does❤
There have certainly been some long, hard days! Thankfully some relaxing ones too! 😅 here’s to hoping it does pay off 🙏🏼
That was a big dirty job! Well done! Noah is sure growing fast - a real cutie!
That was v dirty for sure 🤪 Noah is growing in leaps and bounds. 🥰
Many watching are pensioners and cannot afford patron, it's a shame that we should be excluded from the footage you show on patron.
You’ll be relieved to hear that you’re not excluded. It’s just that we can’t share some footage on TH-cam straight away for various reasons, whereas we can on Patreon. It just means having to wait a little longer than Patrons to see it. A bit like waiting for a film to air on TV vs paying to see it at the cinema first. I hope that helps clarify things.
✨🌞✨
Are you paid by Chateau DIY? At 87 I can’t pay for patron viewing on any of the Chateaus I follow. I wait sometimes a year to see content.
Thanks for your patience ☺️ We are not paid by chateau DIY, no. None of the chateaux are (that we are aware of).
If you click on the subscribe button you'll see content sooner. It doesn't cost anything.
@@Hiris-hu5pc, I am subscribed
If you’re not paid by Chateau DIY, how can they dictate to you when you can release your videos? I find your videos out of sync as they do not follow or come online in order so you don’t get a logical storyline. I think that this is reflected in your very low subscriptions and viewing numbers. It shows you’re not entirely focused on your viewers!!
@@robwarren5744that’s the agreement we have with them, which we are honouring. If you look on our channel you’ll see there is a playlist entitled ‘All episodes in chronological order’. TH-cam has a habit of jumbling episodes up, hence we created the playlist to help people see episodes in chronological order (We’ve been releasing them in chronological order). I hope that helps. Our channel is in the top 10% globally. We’re certainly not up there with the likes of Stephanie, Dan or Anna and Philip, but they’ve been going for much longer than our channel has. Appreciate your feedback.
Happy New Year!
Thanks 🥳🎉 you too!
Bonne année 🥳 🙂 🥳

Thank you for sharing.❤
You’re welcome ☺️
Mammoth effort guys!
Thanks ☺️ Mostly Greg! 🙌🏼
was this a premiere? sorry I missed if so. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! ♡
It was! Sorry to miss you. Next Sunday hopefully 🤞🏼 happy New Year! 🥳
Happy New Year.....look forward to seeing the new footage of what you have been up to!
Thanks Jane. Happy New Year to you too 🎉🎉
I absolutely loved this episode! It was so refreshing to see more of your lives outside the chateau build. You both radiate such genuine warmth and kindness-it’s clear how much love and care you put into everything you do. Your authenticity and the way you support each other is truly inspiring. Keep up the amazing work👏☺️
So pleased you liked it ☺️ we will try to incorporate a little more lifestyle footage and episodes going forward. 😊 happy New Year 🥳
A cracked tile only ages the floor.

Lovely tile floor love the painted walls with the stone. Thank you for sharing.❤
Thanks so much ☺️
The floor is an excellent accomplishment that you should all be proud of! Best wishes for the New Year! ✨🌞✨
Thank you ☺️ I think Noah should be especially proud for his contribution ☺️ very best wishes to you 🎉
The tile looks fantastic. I love the look of your wine room.
Thank you. We’re really pleased too (and relieved it turned out ok). ☺️

I hope you got knee pads for Christmas. You're doing a fantastic job. What a learning curve you've embraced. Did you think you'd acquire such skills so quickly? Happy happy New Year
Alas, Father Christmas did not get that memo! May be for my birthday in a few days’ time… 🎈 We’ve surprised ourselves with all the skills we have picked up to date and how quickly. We’ve been lucky to have some patient and fantastic teachers along the way! ☺️
Great work amazing x

Some South Australian wines would be a great addition to your collection & as an added bonus you don’t need to lay them down as they are mostly screw tops & won’t get cork taint!🍷
Haha! Quite possibly. I don’t think we’ve seen any South African 🇿🇦 wines for sale in French supermarkets… 😕 they seem to only sell French wines…. A few Spanish cavas and Italian Proseccos.
@@thechateauadventuresSouth Australian wines🇦🇺Not South African wines! 🇿🇦 😂
