    I remember building those as a kid, making money from snowshoveling in Brooklyn, NY in the late 1970s and early 1980s, all the wiseguy’s houses, made like $80 one day after a 24” snow storm, was like $500 today, and ran to Hobby Hut to buy them. Getting the skin on and “doping” it properly was difficult.

    How are you flying it without control surfaces, is it because of the propellor design? and altitude using thrust?

  • @BRSkyFalcon
    @BRSkyFalcon หลายเดือนก่อน

    How does the prop keep spinning despite the rubber band?

    • @sandfac3427
      @sandfac3427 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BRSkyFalcon this one is actually fixed, so once the rubber runs out, the prop would stop spinning. But since it’s a long indoor rubber band, the rubber is unwinding all the way through the end of the flight. For higher powered outdoor planes, the props have free wheelers - if you look up “ramp” or “nason clutch” you can see how these allow it to keep spinning!

    • @sandfac3427

      Thanks. Yeah, it was steam over an electric kettle. Once it boiled, I used the other hand to hold the button down so it stayed steaming for a while. Once the tissue was pretty damp, I rushed it over to the board and pinned it down over a piece of wax paper to stay flat for several hours.

    Hi Michael - I just finished my Sky Bunny and am about to start trimming and flying. I know this is an old video (and plane!), but wanted to ask about the rubber motor. So, (2) loops of 1/8" - braided? How many turns in the braid? How many winds for non-contest flights? And do you use a stooge for this plane? Embedded tube in the fuselage for a skewer? Cheers, and see you at the 2025 Non-NATS!

    • @michaelsand8040
      @michaelsand8040 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That was quite a long time ago! To the best of my recollection: 2 loops 1/8” by 24 inches or so, probably lightly braided with 100-200 turns per loop. And I think we hand stooged this model. I’m sure there would be a way to rig it up to work on a stooge, but I don’t think I got to it. Good luck!
