I think the biggest surprise is never quite knowing which video is going to suddenly rocket - no amount of planning can seem to really predict that one. Hence - we all just keep rolling the video and trying to give these ideas a slightly different spin and production. Good to see you have yourself a nice little Evergreen Video in your collection :)
You are so right - sometimes the great video with days of filming and editing can be a stinker in terms of views, which is a shame. Onwards to the next video in my to do list… So many ideas, but just simply not enough time…🤗🙏
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat Yes! Seems like the videos I put all the thought and care into just fall flat. Then some random video about a tree that's to me, just another tree, all the sudden blows up! Glad it's not just me 🙂
@@BonsaiBoise Exactly - I have spent so much time trying to work out the ystem that it became depressing. Just do what you want and look happy on the screen :)
Thank you for sharing Jason. 👍 Indeed, that’s something I’ve asked myself too. 😊 I‘ll stick to watch and enjoy your and some others videos, with no intention to produce. 😘Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina
Super nice!! This is my bonsai channel. I am only uploading shorts for now. Gonna have to start uploading full length videos and this helps. Thank you! What camera are you using?
You probably have the best production quality of any bonsai channel, even compared to the big name teachers. Keep up the good work! Glad we financed some new trees. 😊
Wow, thanks! Obviously any income is a small side benefit. The real reward is helping and sharing my passion with others, and documenting my trees and journey in bonsai.
Great video Jason! I think you might have inspired me to do a video like this. When I do, I'll give proper credit and link to this. I predict you might've started a trend here.
My pleasure and always happy to share. I’m also planning on a video covering the creation of a TH-cam video from idea through to uploading, which might be an interesting insight for some. Give me something to do during these quieter months as the trees go dormant 🤗
Thanks for creating the videos you do Jason. I really enjoy your content and it’s obvious the amount of time and effort that goes into the channel. Really glad you get the money for a few new trees!
Hi Jason. That was a very informative video, and I am very glad to say that I helped out with that. Your hobby was a good move, and I am glad, very glad that you share it with us.
Thank you Jason, this has been a very interesting video. I especially loved the delivery graphic!! That was really funny! I have been grappling with the decision to start a channel for junk journals, not bonsai as I only started bonsai this year and only have a handfull of trees that have survived to this point in the year. But I do a lot of crafts, (quilting and paper crafts) and might start one with that. Not sure but I would love to see your video on your process of putting a video together.
It’s difficult to indicate what income and revenue from different genres and niches might be - a lot to do with how big or specialist the market is, and yet budgets for the sort of people and businesses that might advertise to your potential viewers. Finance, health and fitness, cars and holidays will attract big marketing budgets and consequently advertising income. Bonsai is somewhat niche so relatively low income. That behind the scenes making of is in the pipeline. Bear with me. 🤗👍
Thank you for sharing this honest information (I'm always interested in 'how TH-cam works') - but thank you even more for sharing all the information about Bonsai. One can understand that quite some effort is needed when producing a bonsai (i.e. tiny but real) film.. 👍
Thank you for sharing your insights Jason. I know how much time and effort even making my little hobby videos takes. Without quality Creators such as yourself TH-cam would not exist. It does make me feel sad that peoples creativity and hard work is never rewarded fully and the big corporations make so much money of the efforts of others. Take care 💚
Not many people realise you spend hours or days on research, shooting and editing. I’m glad you got something back and can treat yourself with tree or new equipment sometimes, but it’s peanuts money comparing to the time and effort spend. Always enjoying your videos Jason. Ps love the cats !
Hi Jason. Now I appreciate even more all the hard work, planning, and effort you and other folks put on the making of your videos. I mentioned it before but let me tell you again: your videos are awesome, and I love the comedy and creativity on your videos, along with the high quality content and knowledge you share. Thanks a lot 🍻
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comment. You are going to love my upcoming Halloween tribute to Edgar Allen Poe 👍🎃 These occasional off the wall creative projects allow me to flex a bit 🤗
We broke the bank at just under two dollars last month. Of course, TH-cam doesn't let go of cash like that all at once, so we're waiting for the total to be enough to total the service charge for forwarding.. Jason, that was honestly inspiring.
Yeah, in the UK there is a lower threshold for payment of £60. TH-cam holds onto the money until it surpasses that amount, then pays it over at the end of the month. Bonsai TH-cam is both bonsai and TH-cam and for success you have to play the TH-cam game a bit. Keep at it Patricia. I always say watching your content is like popping round for coffee and a relaxed chat with your bonsai obsessed neighbour. 💪❤️
Hi Jason thanks for being open... I was interested but purely from academic point of view and do appreciate how long it takes to plan and shoot a video... or any talk... Have been dropped in it a few times at work to give presentations with less than 5 mins notice... so do understand 🙂
Very interesting! I have a little channel myself , not quite at 1k subs . Don’t put much time into it to be honest . Keep the vids coming mate great content by the way
Thanks for sharing is a good insight It would be good if I could build my channel to where I earn Also looking forward to the video where you show how to make a video been wanting that
Great information. I hope as I learn about how to catalogue my Plants Journey, that my channel can grow to be as successful as yours. Even if the perks are TH-cam paying for a new tree, I'd be happy.
Thank you for sharing that info. Good to know. You surely invest a lot of time & effort to share your perspective, knowledge & insights and the rewards are imho quite modest. But then again: the satisfaction you get out of it can't really be quantified in ping ping, can it ?
Great videos can i ask how does one even start to put a video together for youtube and get it on the road , is there a video to show how to present to youtube to go out to the public b
There are lots of videos on TH-cam suggesting how to get started. Look for something like “how to start a TH-cam channel in 2024”. th-cam.com/video/Lk_4GUymeOI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=N0ssJBlrpAu4N06t From there it’s a matter of deciding on your niche, style and content. Start by filming, experimenting and learning how to improve something with each video. I do ALL my scripting, shooting and editing on an iPhone. I will be going through my own process at some point shortly to show each step I go through from start to finish.
Lovely job, enjoyed the video. Shorts are not my thing, i love watching the videos. If the same viewer watch the same video 5 times would that be classed as 1 view or 5 views
So, if I’m hearing you correctly, the best way to drive your revenue is to watch (without skipping), like and comment, correct? Does watching at x2 speed effect your “hours watched” matrix?

Nobody retired on bonsai TH-cam earnings. That’s for the likes of Mr Beast. But it can supplement your hobby. 🙏
Hopefully my channel will grow big enough one day that i can get paid enough to help sub some of my bonsai cost. Thanks Jason 😊

Yes you would be correct. Only TH-cam knows how it calculates the metrics… 🤗😊

When you work it out per hour it’s peanuts compared to what TH-cam make, but at least it helps with trees and other hobby related expenses.
Just as well we do it for the love of the hobby, and might be a nice little supplement to a pension when I’m finally able to retire 🤗
TH-cam shorts could be a way to get more subscribers instead of directly earning money
I use them as previews of my longer content.
It's much worse in other languages than english
I guess the big advertisers target the larger viewer demographics. Sorry to hear that.
