Hi. I'm a committed self-taught woodturner artist. I turn wood for fun, my own satisfaction and mostly for family and friends. I also support local charities: The Chiltern MS Centre and the National Trust estate at Hughenden.
I am chairman of the Berkshire Woodturners Club and am passionate about growing and sharing woodturning as a deeply engaging craft and art form. I am a member of the Marlow Art Trail and exhibit at Hayden Gallery in Marlow and the Old Kiln Yard Gallery in Wokingham

Woodturning by Spinfield Turners: Bugs!!
มุมมอง 2022 หลายเดือนก่อน
A fun project. For the kids (mostly!). Made for the Easter Adventure Trail at Hughenden National Trust High Wycombe where I volunteer - as part of the Rustic Products team there. Great fun for any garden - make them as big or small as you like #Hughenden
Woodturning by Spinfield Turners: Unique Cherry Burr Bowl

A large chunk of cherry burr which needed a lot of superglue and filler. A time consuming but fun project #marlowarttrail #arbortech #woodturning #bowlsaver
Woodturning by Spinfield Turners: Rob and Francesca turn a mushroom
มุมมอง 1693 หลายเดือนก่อน
A short first-time turning taster session for Rob and Francesca. We started with some practice with a spindle roughing gouge to get to grips with how bevels work on traditional tools. We then moved to using a carbide tool (with a negative rake cutter) to make the mushroom. Carbides are a great way to get an absolute beginner onto the lathe as they are quite safe and easy to master.
Woodturning:Upgrading Camvac twin motor vac with Nanomax filter
มุมมอง 3175 หลายเดือนก่อน
I got fed up with the quite rapid reduction in suck of my Camvac due to fines clogging the outer bag. My cyclone retained 98% or more but the very fine dust still gets through. I stumbled on this small company in Canada which sells a pleated filter upgrade kit . So I bought one stockroomsupply.com/collections/nano-max-filters/products/nanomax-cv-cartridge-filters-for-camvac-dust-extractors Unfo...
Woodturning: Pepper Mill - crush grind shaftless
มุมมอง 2785 หลายเดือนก่อน
A while back I did a video of a crush grind pepper mill with a threaded section at the top for a salt shaker. That video also showed how you do the undercut recess for the crush grind's tangs th-cam.com/video/B0CtYcsqFUw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=n-EZhTO5QGXjF2GU This is a simpler version without doing the recess so no special tool is needed. Just 45mm, 38mm and 25mm Forstner bits and 3 different sized chu...
Woodturning: A double tri-cornered tea light holder
มุมมอง 2948 หลายเดือนก่อน
Some lost footage of me turning a grotty wormy piece of wood as a practice piece before a demo a while back. After a spray with some marbling paint, it came out ok. Thought I'd share it anyway.
Woodturning by Spinfield Turners: Coloured walnut crotch bowl
มุมมอง 2568 หลายเดือนก่อน
This piece of walnut was very wet and also very light in colour with yellow patches appearing as it dried. It also split a fair bit as it dried (end grain so no surprise). It also warped by about 50mm at the edges as it dried! So it got coloured and pyro'd and it turned our to be a unique and unusual piece as a result
Woodturning by Spinfield Turners: A Halloween Jack O'Lantern
มุมมอง 839 หลายเดือนก่อน
A very wet bit of punky cherry called out to be turned into a jack o'lantern. A bit of hollowing (no rig this time) and carving too Good use of the Ryobi 4v carver and rotary tools And a first proper outing for my new Arbortech Carving chisel. Music from Peritune on Soundlabs #ryobi #arbortech
Woodturning by Spinfield Turners: Tall Yew hollow form
มุมมอง 2779 หลายเดือนก่อน
The tallest hollow form I've managed to date. This pushed the Hope deep hollowing rig to its limits. -I really needed an even longer hollowing tool to reach the bottom.
Woodturning: Large Ash hollow form using Hope Easy Hollower.
มุมมอง 90211 หลายเดือนก่อน
A large and heavy green Ash log called out for some more testing out of the Hope Easy Hollower. The planned shape and finishing of the form changed a lot though as it was turned due to heavy cracking. In the end, it got carved, pyro'd, ebonised and then coloured with Rustina's copper oxidising paint from Axminster and Jo Sonja's iridescent paints The 'Sultans Hat' form and material look finish ...
Woodturning: Tall Ash vase hollow form
มุมมอง 140ปีที่แล้ว
Hadn't used the Hope Easy Arm hollower on a tall hollow form. So found this dry piece of ash and had a go. I decided to do a joint in the middle to make hollowing the top and the bottom easier. In hindsight, I could have just done the joint at the neck and avoided having to mask the joint so much. Hey ho. On the next one. Loving the Hope hollowing rig #hopewoodturning
Woodturning by Spinfield Turners: Sorby HollowPro vs Hope Easy Arm Hollower
มุมมอง 624ปีที่แล้ว
I had some fun comparing how the Sorby HollowPro rig worked on a biggish hollow form using a variety of different hollowing tools. Great fun - the winning tool was the Woodcut Pro forme hollower And I then compared it to my new Hope Easy Arm hollowing rig. The Hope rig was the clear winner but the Sorby HollowPro does have a place. Particularly for someone who is less confident and wants some h...
Woodturning by Spinfield Turners: Replacing the PCB on AC400 Record Power Air Filter
มุมมอง 572ปีที่แล้ว
Those nice people at Record Power kindly provided me with a replacement PCB for my AC 400 air filter. The two fast speeds had progressively stopped working. Despite it being almost 7 years old Richard, from RP, very kindly sent me one foc under warranty. As always great service from an excellent company. This video shows you how to open the unit up and swap out the PCB - very easy. #recordpower

Nicely done. The finish is quite cool. I have made many of these that are similar. For the inside bottom I turned 3" circle to about 3/8 deep, paint it black then fill it with clear resin with a dragon pendant embedded. These were for my 3 grandsons.
Nice one 👍
Thanks for sharing Malcolm,
Thanks for watching and (hopefully) subscribing!
Great turning!
Dear Sir, I want to talk about your TH-cam channel. Your content quality is amazing but I analyze that why are you not getting many views, likes, comments, and subscribers in the channel. NOTE: I already marked your all channel issues, If you want I can send you?
Pretty bowl. Well done!
Many thanks for watching. Cheer
Lovely job Malcolm
Thanks Jonathan.
Do you have to clean them as much as the canvas bags?
Very pretty. A shame that the center is so rotten. Hope you can get it figured out and successfully turned. This larger bowl is spectacular.
Thanks for dropping in Doug. I'll be sure to video me playing with resin when I do attack the core. Bound to run everywhere...!
Very nice piece
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow that’s stunning Malcolm
Thanks Linda!
Great teaching project. Sounded like she had a great time.
Thx. Fun was had by all which is what its all about.
A glued on waste block could be used to overcome the screw hole issue & avoid losing bowl material.
A glue block would indeed work well. 👍I tend to shy away from them personally as the work to plane the two pieces smooth before bonding usually puts me off. And in this case the need to overcome the screw holes provided a great opportunity for an unusual bottom detail. Which was a great talking point when displaying it at a subsequent Art Show. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! So few people provide feedback or subscribe despite thousands of views each month.
Nothing wrong with the end result. Very nice bowl.@@spinfieldturners
Very nice. However I think the piece is mistitled as I count 6 corners.🙂🙂
Good point 🤪Thanks for watching!
I love it great.
Thanks Gerry!
I like it
Cheers!
Thank you..a new fresh idea for me to try..newbie 7 months..

Love the spoon and lid/spoon holder. Great project.

Nice work and great looking bowl
Thanks for watching! I must do more of these as they are good fun
Hello, would you happen to know where I can get a copy of the leaflet you mentioned/shows a page of, around the long boss jig & horseshoe grind ect? I have the pro edge with all the jigs but none of the leaflets look like the one shown in this video. Many thanks, Joe :)
Hi Joe. Thanks for watching. DM me on FB or Instagram and I'll send you a copy. @spinfieldturners
Amazing!!! I saw one of your current videos of the pear and these bananas were in the bowl and I had to see how you made them. Wow, good work.
Not one for a beginner! Thanks for watching!!
Looked a little scary in the beginning. Looks great.
Thanks for watching. It worked out ok in the end!
You have me spinning thing for free
I have met you last art trail
Thanks for watching and subscribing hopefully!
Bon travail Malcolm bravo 👍👏
Merci beaucoup Denis
Wow, as you say a one-off! what a lot of effort Malcolm It certainly tested your skill and patience. Quite a distinctive piece though thank you for sharing
Many thanks for watching! I have kind of grown to like it: but I am expecting others to hate it! Raising it on a pedestal and adding the coloured finial helped. That was the 2nd finial by the way as the first (more traditional 'Drozda' onion style) looked very wrong.
Great job sticking with it. Beautiful piece
Many thanks. It certainly is quirky!
Probably is dumb question, but, can I use the ProEdge to sand wood objects on? I was wondering whether it can be used to square your pen blanks for example.
Yes you could. It is really just a 50mm wide linisher with add ons. You can set up the plate at 90degrees to square off small blanks using the 60grit belts. The ceramic belts will also remove the brass tubing without a problem too! If you dont watch it!
@@spinfieldturners Thank you!
I think that turned out nicely Malcolm!
Many thanks. You can come again.!
Shape looks good to me Malcolm, nice job and thank you for sharing
Cheers! And many thanks for watching

Or rather I don’t know I can’t do it - so I’ll give it a go and see!
Nice job Malcolm thanks for sharing
Neat idea Malcolm. Good job!
Many thanks! Think i was a bit too generous with the glue on the paper joints though…
