Lyrics: Ho all to the borders! Vermonters, come down, With your britches of deerskin and jackets of brown; With your red woolen caps and your moccasins come, To the gathering summons of trumpet and drum. Come down with your rifle! Let gray wolf and fox Howl on in the shadow of primitive rocks; Let bear feed securely from pig-pen and stall; Here's two-legged game for your powder and ball. Then c...

I just came upon this song. It is now part of my collection of songs of what I call the Spirit of '76 collection. These songs need to be revived. However, Trump's MAGA crowd and Project 2025 won't like them. During the McCarthy era, the songs of the Spirit of '76 would have been banned by Congress for being too Anti-American. Believe it because it's true. They banned the song "This land is my land." But now, it is a big favorite to many Americans.

If the founding fathers had woken up today, you'd be astonished to death by how incredibly 'far right', 'authoritarian' and 'fascistic' they were. Lol, your comment is cringe.

@@Alainmontpellier1000 It is very true that they were far right, authoritarian and fascist. They were British in their thought, but they desired a nation of Liberty. They had no idea how to make it that happen because a nation of Liberty was a new idea to them. It took over 200 years before the U.S went, "Oh, I get it. Sort of." It will still take a little longer before the U.S goes, "Holy Shit, what the fuck was I thinking." My suggestion, just keep the dreams of the Coffee Houses of 1600s London alive. The songs of Liberty will be made clearer. The U.S is a project that is still going on.

    • @francisadams-u9l

@@Alienwatcher John Adams made the statement, "There is nothing more fictitious that European history. There is nothing more fictitious than American History." He also said, "Nobody will every be able to write the truth about the American Revolution." I do realize that much of U.S history is fiction. This is because many U.S citizens have no creativity or imagination. They need cartoonish stories just to function. Like the story of Plymouth rock and the Pilgrims having the first thanksgiving with happy friendly Indians. I can keep going.

They maintained a lot of sympathy in America. Interestingly enough, Flora Mcdonald, who helped Charlie escape after Culloden, after moving to America remained a Loyalist. I couldn't find what did Charlie have to say about the Revolution tho.

I think it's because the Stuarts were trying to establish an absolute monarchy in Britain, so they were kicked out by William of Orange, and they are joking that, owing to all the oppression the colonists were facing, the Stuarts must have simply been sent to America rather than being completely ovethrown

Great song! 1) It's not from that album, 2) It was written by John Greenleaf Whittier as a prank in 1828 (published in 1833 as a "long-lost song of Ethan Allen") 3) it's actually called the Song of the Vermonters 1779, and you can read about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Song_of_the_Vermonters,_1779

Robert Allen was a several times great grandfather of mine. Before I knew about his role in the revolution or my relation to him, I already was wearing a red wool hunting cap regularly and keep a green felt forest cloak around. Also I'm definitely of the liberty persuasion. This is a great song.

We follow where the swamp fox guides His friends and merry men are we And when the [dirty] Tory legions ride we burrow in the cypress trees The gloomy swampland is our bed Our home is in the red deers den Our roof the treetop overhead For we are wild and hunted men We ride we hide we strike again for we are Marion's men We ride we hide we strike again for we are Marion's men We fly by day and shun it's light A prompt to strike the sudden blow We mount and start with early night And through the forest crack our foe And soon he hears our charges leap And flashing saber blinds his eyes And there he drives away his sleep And rushes from his camp, he dies We ride we hide we strike again for we are Marion's men We ride we hide we strike again for we are Marion's men The swamp fox whistles to the scouts You hear his order coming low Come wave your torch across the dark We shall not be the last to go And courage comrades Marion needs The swamp fox takes us out tonight So clear your swords and coax your steeds Tonight we ride, tonight we fight! We ride we hide we strike again for we are Marion's men We ride we hide we strike again for we are Marion's men We follow where the swamp fox guides We leave the swamp and cypress trees Our spurs are in our course decides And ready for the strife are we The [dirty] Tory camp is now in sight And there he cowers within his den He hears the shout he dreads the fight He fears and flies from Marion's men We ride we hide we strike again for we are Marion's men We ride we hide we strike again for we are Marion's men We ride we hide we strike again for we are Marion's men
