EXCITED! This Begonia mazae’s babies are READY to pot up
มุมมอง 1093 หลายเดือนก่อน
I’ve FINALLY been able to pot on the first lot of babies from my STUNNING Begonia mazae nigricans! The plant was a donation from a local gentleman as it had got very out of hand. Hear a bit about how I got it in order, and see the progress of the cutest propagations. They were a mixture of leaf wedge cuttings (I have a very detailed tutorial on this process), and chunks of the rhizomatous stems...
Is your ‘Peace Lily’ DROOPY but the soil is WET?

⚠️ I went for a smiley cover photo for this reel, as this is a Peace Lily Public Service Announcement! ⚠️ If you have a Peace Lily that has been droopy for a good while, but sat in moist soil, please please please whip her out of the pot and check the health of her roots! I’ve had a few in recently all with the same issue. They’ve been sat in wet soil with no drainage material at all, so their ...

    I have two Aspidistra plants, one from each of my Grandma's. They were both well established when I was a little girl so both are at least 80 years old. They are both in their original Victorian style pots. One is doing fine. The other looks a bit poorly so I have taken note of the excellent information and will now proceed to repot him(or her). Keeping my fingers crossed.

    My pods love when I give them a chicken skull. I remove what I can of skin and eyes. They clean up the rest in no time. If I want to keep the skull I keep an eye on it, because they nibble on the bone too. They also love Nori seaweed and mushrooms.

    I have a couple of these. One is a rescue and the other is what I bought new. I wonder what happened to you yours. I noticed the soil was a bit powdery when removed from the pot and probably a bit of the dry side. It looked like the leaves were a little sunburnt too?

    Another fantastic video! You're great with the camera and just like you're chatting to a friend. I do have a question.... how do you know which plants you can propogate from leaf cuttings and which ones you can't?

    • @thenewleafltd
      @thenewleafltd ปีที่แล้ว

      Awwww, thank so much! I feel like I’m starting to get more comfortable, so hopefully my personality is coming out a bit more! Very good question, there is probably a proper scientific answer I’m sure. I started out researching the plants I already had (i.e. a quick Google 😆), I learnt more about the differences between different genuses of plants as my collection grew, so I got a better understanding of which would propagate via leaf cuttings. I thoroughly recommend the book ‘Root Nurture Grow’ by Carl Langdon and Rose Ray, it’s absolutely awesome 👍🏻 Indoor plants that sprout leaves from the crown seem to be a fairly good rule of thumb, so Peperomia, African Violets, Rex Begonia, obviously loads of succulents and Dracaena/Sansevieria. Also the ZZ plant and some Pilea will work too.

    Thank you! I have one that is REALLY struggling. I think she has 5 leaves left and I am trying so hard to save her. Now I know that her leaves were probably damaged from too much AZ sun which I mistook as being thirsty & then almost drowned the poor thing. Tomorrow I am going to repot her and clean up any rotted parts and get her started in some better soil. I am not hopeful of finding any babies, but who knows! 🤞

    • @thenewleafltd
      @thenewleafltd ปีที่แล้ว

      You are very welcome, and thanks for your comment. Sorry to hear about your plant, it sounds like you have the right idea about how to help her, fingers crossed! If you find that the base is a bit rotty when you get it out of the soil, I would advise cleaning it off and leaving it out to dry out for a few hours before you pot it up in new soil. If you have any weak Hydrogen Peroxide solution, that is very useful to try and kill off any nasty bacteria.
