The Palmer/Pletsch Complete Guide to Fitting: Book Review & Insights (Ep 182)
Hi Angela - I’m curious if you made that Marlo sweater and how it turned out with one of those Mood swatches?
Hi Caroline! Sorry to say, no, not yet. It definitely still is on my radar and I'm hoping to do it this year. Are you thinking of trying it out?
@ I’m thinking of making a sweater. I have the free Lisa pattern from Seamworks and was going to give that a try at some point.
Hi Angela! Great pants and i think they would be great in spring/summer. Love your hashtag!😂
Hi Carol! Thanks so much for dropping in. I'm thinking of a linen version for summer, or maybe a gauzy cotton. I'll have to shop my stash and work with what I have. I'm semi doing a no-spend this year, other than necessities and garden plants. (We'll see how that goes...) Hope you are having a great week! 😎
Pants look great on you. Interesting pattern. Don’t quote me on this, but I thought I read somewhere that when you add rows of stitching to elastic, like you did, it actually makes the elastic less stretchy, hence why the back waist feels looser on you. Just thought I’d mention it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! And thanks for the tip, that does seem to make sense. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and hope you have a great weekend ahead!
Very cute... I love how you styled your outfit...
Hi Cindy, thank you! I'm so glad you liked the styling, I think these pants are gonna be very fun to work into different outfits. Thanks so much for watching and for your sweet comment!
Hi Angela - the style/colour of the pants look great on you. And matched with a white button down shirt would be fabulous.
Hi Caroline, thanks so much! I appreciate your kind comment. I'm kinda thinking that a thrifting trip is in order, to find that perfect top!
Hi Angela! That is a cool hashtag! 😎 Your pants look very nice on you!
Hi Zelda, thank you so much! I'm so glad you like them. Hope your week is going well! 😊
Hi Angela! Your pants look great! The navy is a perfect color to wear with so many things.
Hi Michelle! Thank you so much! I really love the navy color, too. Can't wait to pair it up with some different tops (that I have yet to make or thrift, lol). 😄
I've made a few pairs of the Clare pants for summer - just in light fabrics, and I've thought of them as casual pants for hot weather. But your beautiful pair have made me rethink this pattern and I might try them in linen or a "nice" fabric next, when I saw your pair I could immediately visualise them in the office with a tunic or blouse. Thanks for this video.
Hi there! I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed the video. I love the idea of making these in, say, a breezy cotton or something casual for a summer vibe. Thanks for that tip! And I agree, they might look sharp with a tunic or blouse, perfect for a more polished look. Thanks so much for the kind comment!
That was a fun anniversary celebration! Congrats on 3 years and happy sewing! 😊-Deborah
Thank you so much, Deborah! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😄
So glad I found your unboxing. I got mine last week. Like yours, threads were everywhere and i thought it was used. I see yours I the same. It amazes me that they don’t care enough to be more careful with the threads. I remember that brother used to take more care of their machines when preparing for sale, so i never dreamed they would be so sloppy. (Of course, i always got my machines from a local shop) So, i returned it and got a replacement today. I opened it tonight and, again, the threads are a mess. It is worse this time. It took me 45 minutes of untangling and the blue thread is so tightly wrapped around the foot that i cannot get it untangled. The foot is frozen and unable to be lifted. I’m afraid of breaking it, so I’ll call brother tomorrow morning. It was about 20 minutes too late to call them tonight. I’ve been sewing for many, many years, so I’m used to sewing machines but, like you, it took me much research and fretting before buying this one. Like you, i was attracted to the many happy users on line. Wish me luck.
I am so sorry to hear about your experience. I hope your new machine works out for you. Once I got everything all sorted out, it was smooth sailing from there. I've enjoyed using my serger and it is not difficult to rethread. I'd love to hear how it all works out for you! Thanks for watching!!
@ amazingly, 2nd one is worse. Brother wants me to take it 50 miles east to get a certified repair. Instead of driving round trip 100 miles, I’ll return it and try one more time. I feel jinxed. I’ve never heard of anyone having trouble so I’ll give another chance.
@@tlsnana9539 Oh no! Fingers crossed!
@@JustMeAndMyFabric funniest thing! I did paperwork for #1 but our snow kept me from returning it. I package #2 and reopened #1. Once I untangled everything, it’s just fine. It makes a good story, though, doesn’t it? Again, your opening showed me I’m just fine. 😉
Your choices of colors are spot on. I don’t try to match colors exactly all the time. Your print has so many colors that having slightly different hues will work well. Good luck with your capsule. I will follow along and hopefully see your creations as you make them.
Hi there! Thank you so much for leaving this sweet comment. I appreciate the encouragement. I’m so glad you enjoyed this video and I’d love to hear your thoughts as you watch through the following videos showing off each of the capsule pieces. Hope you have a great week!
Hi Angela - I have discovered thrifting recently- so much fun. Love your thrifted top.
Hi Caroline! Isn’t it the best fun? I've found some awesome things over the years. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you’re having a week!
Hi Angela - I really enjoyed this video. Even though I’ve only been sewing for a short while I love it so much and it’s wonderful tapping into the creative side of my brain which has barely been used for many many years.
Aw, that's fantastic! I love that you've found a creative outlet that you enjoy so much. It does get quite addicting. 😊
Thank you for your tips on the cargo pockets. They are very helpful!
You're welcome! I'm so glad the video was helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with me, much appreciated! Hope you have a great week ahead.
Well done I think it is a great color for you and as you stated a duster maybe in the same color or a jacket. Thank you for sharing.
Hi there! Thanks so much for the kind comment. I appreciate it and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video.
We're getting snow again, like we needed more!! Great video!! Pantsuary for the win
Yes! Thank you! I appreciate the support.
I'm in ohio
Oh, cool! What area are you in?
I'm so impressed, Angela! I've been wanting to sew pants for a couple of years, but am so intimidated by the fit. But I'm giving it a go with a pair this month. I'm really interested to see your makes this month. I hear what you're saying about heavy ponte pants! I made the Style Arc Parker Ponte Pants and used a rather heavy ponte as well. I wear them, and they keep me warm, but yeah, they're a hefty pair of pants. 🤣🤣 Wow - 12 inches of snow! Living in California, I've just never had a snowy day. Farley is so cute! Ricco our little Maltese doesn't like to get his feet wet when it rains. I can't imagine him liking snow like Farley does! Looking forward to your makes!
Hi Carol, thanks so much for stopping by! I totally understand about getting pants to fit right. It's something I've been working at these last few years. I somehow, with a lot of trial and error, got a pair of McCall's pants to fit perfectly a few years ago and then I traced the front and back curves onto heavy paper to use as a template. I use this template every time I make a pair of pants and so far it hasn't failed. The only thing I'm using the template for is the crotch curve (the tricky part, for me at least). I'd love to take an in-person class one of these days so that an instructor can explain it all to me, hands on with some samples. Anywho, best wishes with your pants this month!
Hi Angela - I loved learning more about you!
Aw, thank you so much, Caroline! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Hope you have a great weekend ahead. ☺️
Hi Angela - I’ve started using Swedish tracing paper and find it works very well. It’s kind of cloth like so doesn’t shift when I’m cutting out the fabric plus I can pin up the sides which help with gauging sizing. Love all your videos.
Hi Caroline! Thanks so much for stopping by. And thanks for the tip about the Swedish tracing paper, it sounds just perfect! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a kind comment and I've just subbed over on your new channel - best wishes with it!!
Hi Angela! I love all that you made last year. It's an impressive collection! Looking forward to what you decide to make in 2025!!😊
Hi Carol! Thanks so much! I’m looking forward to this year, too. I feel like I get my sew-jo back every January. I’m so glad you stopped by to visit. Happy New Year!
Angela, that sweater dress is lovely. You must find somewhere to wear it! I recall when you purchased your serger last year. Would love to see your serger learning journey in upcoming videos.
Hi Donna, thank you so much! Love the suggestion to do a serger follow-up. Noted!! Hope your 2025 is off to a great start!
What a fantastic year it was! Great work and looking forward to see what you create in '25! Cheers my friend!
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words and support this past year. I'm looking forward to the new year, too. Thanks for watching! 😊
Hi Angela, you made some lovely things in 2024 and I love how all the pieces play together!
Hi Katinka, thank you so much! I appreciate you stopping by and your kind comment. I hope your year is off to a good start. I miss watching your channel, as I've been away from TH-cam for a little while. I'll head over now!
Thanks for a great vlog 😊😊
Thanks so much, Robyn! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Hope you have a great weekend!
Congratulations on your 3 year anniversary. Love your channel.
Hi Diane! Thank you so much ♥️ I appreciate your support! 😊
Just received today the blanket I want to use to make this skirt - intend to sew view C. I'm not a brand new sewist but I wouldn't call myself an expert. You look so lovely in your skirt and I appreciate your review!
Thank you so much! Hope you love how it turns out and will share a photo when you're done!
Those pants are lovely-well worth the time to fix. Do you think that pattern style could be made shorter (midi-length) and work as a split-skirt? That might be something I try-easy style to wear when getting out of a car while looking like a skirt. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! I'm so happy I changed out the elastic in the waistband. I wore them for Thanksgiving and got compliments (& maybe even a request for a custom-order pair for a friend). I think you could easily shorten them to a midi, and I may end up doing that for my own pair; I sometimes trip over them when wearing flats, they are kinda long. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a great week ahead!
Dutch Label Shop
Thank you, Vanessa!
Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for sharing your video!❤
Hi Zelda, same to you! Hope you're having a fantastic day!
Yes, the elastic issue. I've graduated to at least 1" elastic with a wider waistband.
Hi Donna, thanks for stopping by! I'm glad I'm not the only one, ha! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. ☺️
Happy Thanksgiving! I can’t wait to see your sundress turned into a cute summer dress to wear. As soon as I saw it I thought “I would wear that as a dress”. Glad you were able to fix your waistband. I only ever use non fold elastic, I hate it when the flimsy waistbands fold. I’m really excited to see your tips video.
Hi Sheila, Happy Thanksgiving!! Yes, the non-roll is working really well. Thanks so much for your sweet comment!
Happy Thanksgiving. Great video today.
Thanks so much, Diane! Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!
In particular, I found this video fascinating because you instructed the process so well I can relate to it! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much! I’m happy to hear that you found it useful. ☺️
I love the top/dress youre wearing. ❤ There are so many great 1990s patterns. I have a pleated skirt pattern from the 90s that i still use and a friend found a Kwik Sew coat pattern at a thrift shop in L.A. and bought it for me. ❤ The coat patterns from the 90s are great, sleek designs.
Thank you! It's a top that I found while thrifting. Love it when I score something so great. 90s patterns are the best. I might be biased because I was learning how to sew during the 90s, but so be it. ☺️ Very cool that your friend got you a pattern! That's a great friend. ☺️
Thanks they look great! Did not understand a couple of the instruction around the pocket corners and flap so thanks for showing those bits as now I get it! Thanks!
Hi there, so glad I could help! I appreciate your comment and hope your cargoes turned out great!
Hi Thank you for the review. Am putting in the waist band right now using your changes.
Hi there! Thank you for sharing this! I hope it works well for you. I'd love to know how it turns out. 😊
I pulled out a pile of clothes awaiting alterations last week - must be the season for this! I don't enjoy it, but it doesn't make sense to have things that aren't being worn, either, if they can be fixed to work. Congratulations on raising money to help with hurricane relief.
Thank you so much! Yes, it will feel good to get that pile squared away!
Hi Angela! I'm here to see what's happening in your sewing room!😅
Hi Zelda! Thanks so much for stopping by! Sadly there’s not too terribly much sewing going on these days but hoping to change that. Hope you are well!
Hi Angela! Congratulations on 3 years! Quite an undertaking to go back thru 3 years of videos looking for all the wonderful sewing tips shared! I have enjoyed all your past videos and am looking forward to future ones 🙂
Hi Michelle! Thank you so much! I appreciate your support over the years. 🙌🏻 💕 😊
3 years! How wonderful! 💕 I’d love to participate, and you can share my name, Angela. I don’t know if I’ve shared any tips in the past or what they may have been. 😂 I’ll put my thinking cap on! Love your pants! Wonder if you have enough space to put in another channel and use another piece of elastic in that channel. I’ve made waistbands with 3 channels of 3/8” elastic and they’re really comfortable. 😘 Sew with joy!
Hi Lynn! Thanks so much! I'll look forward to more of your wonderful tips. Love the idea for the pants and I'll have to take a closer look to see if that might be an option. Appreciate it! Hope you're having a good weekend.
Oh made in a Linen would make a great three season jacket.
Nice!! 👍🏻
Congratulations on 3 years!
Thank you!! 🥰🥰🥰
What a wonderful way to celebrate! Congratulations on 3 years already!
Thank you so much! ☺️
I own this book too, and I adore it.
So happy to hear this! It's definitely a fantastic book. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Angela! What a GREAT idea! I see how this can relieve some of the pressure to make, make, make especially when you already have and just need a few adjustments. Hats off to you! While this is not my kind of endeavor, I am cheering you on! Excited to see the journey! Love what you did with the cargos! Take care!
Hi Terri, thank you so much!! I appreciate the words of encouragement and hope you're doing well! ☺️💕🙌🏻
@@JustMeAndMyFabric Hi Angela! Thanks and yes...ALL is well! 🙏
