Camping and Fly Fishing for Trout on a Pristine Blue Mountains River
On this solo trip I spend three days hiking, camping and fly fishing in the Blue Mountains. It's a beautiful location and one of my absolute favourites to visit.
For several reasons it's been a while since I've posted. A combination of not being comfortable on camera, wanting to just enjoy other trips without thinking about filming, and ultimately finding the right trip for a vlog.
I've tried to improve on some of the things I felt could have been better in the first video, so welcome all feedback on how I could make changes in the next!

Solo Camping and Fly Fishing in the Iconic Snowy Mountains High Country
มุมมอง 36K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A 3 day solo adventure of hiking, camping and fly fishing in the Snowy Mountains High Country. It was a personal goal of mine to film a vlog style fly fishing adventure in 2022 and this trip was the perfect opportunity to capture stunning scenery and some great fishing in one of my favourite locations. It was a real learning experience to shoot this style of video as it's something I'm not fami...
Great video. I really enjoyed it.
enjoyed this , from a queenslander who wants to fish the snowy what river was that please
Awesome video Josh, keep making more videos my man
Thanks mate
Just found this video, thought it was fantastic…a little sad that there weren’t a lot more
how did u bring beef in that bag, like how did u keep it cool
In the freezer the night before and it just thaws out while you walk in
Hey Josh, just watching another video of yours. Do you ever keep & cook your fish? Cheers Marg
Hey Josh, just discovered you on YT and what a breath of fresh air you are. Beautiful content. We thought it looked like you might have been near 4 Mile, we absolutely love camping in the Snowy. Looking forward to following you and hopefully learn how to successfully fly fish. The underwater footage of the brown trout was magic. Where was the cascading water? Incredible! Cheers Marg
Really enjoyed that, great job editing.
Love the videos mate, and this river is the best. May I ask what camera your using? The footage is unreal!
Hey mate, appreciate it. I shot this one with a Sony fx3
Hi mate love the video!! Where is that campsite or do you know what its called? Heading there soon and would love to camp there. Thanks
Will there be a full length version? great filming as always.
Unfortunately I pulled the pin early on this camp because I pulled my back so I abruptly stopped filming. Didn’t really leave with enough footage for a full length video
amazing videos mate, i can't wait to see more.
You honestly must work so hard to not only fish but produce content like this while worrying about framing, getting the camera on a tripod on the other side of the river etc. No idea how you do it, but much respect! You're content is insane!
A big part of why I haven’t made more 😅
I'm totally blown away by this video. The production value is insane for a one man show! I genuinely hope you put out another video. If our paths cross I'll be sure to buy you a beer buddy
Thanks for the kind words mate
Hey josh, epic vid, love it! I know people dont give away there spots but what region are you in at the snowys? Doing a solo trip round chrissy. Thanks mate, love it
Josh, I don’t understand this new fashion / trend where people now are fishing with a 200 kilo backpack strapped on. In your case you already pitched the tent and accessories left in the tent so why the big pack, pissy little raincoat, first aid kit maybe? What happened to the days of wearing the good old fishing vest?
I don’t know about trend/fashion. It’s the convenience of being able to store my camera gear when it rains/river crossings, hold my 1L water bottle + water filter kit, my first aid kit, lunch and snacks, different camera lenses to switch to etc The reason I like this hyperlite bag is because it rolls down to a smaller size pack, suited to when I’ve removed the tent/camping gear. Previously I’d take an additional stash-able bag with me and leave the hiking bag at camp. At this point, wearing a vest would be for fashion in my case, because it certainly wouldn’t be practical…
amazing production
Thanks mate
Hey Josh just found your channel, you've got some beautiful camera work and editing. Really love what you've done. I've got massive respect for you doing this purely for fun and trying something new filming-wise. It definitely shows in the films as everything feels organic and not forced whatsoever. After seeing this video I really want to upgrade my camera. It's currently a somewhat unique look to have 4K slowmo on TH-cam, as those cameras are really up there price-wise. I'm shooting 4K 30fps on a Sony A7iii so slowmo is out of the picture for me, unless I downgrade the footage to fuzzy 1080p.
Thanks mate, it’s definitely an investment getting a camera that shoots 4k in a high frame rate, but it does give you a lot of versatility when editing.
beautiful Josh - uncle john
Good down to earth content, look forward to more Josh. Sub added. Deno
Mate! Just discovered your channel and absolutely loved the vid! We are so lucky to have the Blue Mountains so close to home. Look forward to checking out your next adventure
great change from just fat fucks fourwheel driving and not doing anything involving any skill . enjoyed that
Good to see you back 🤙
Hi Josh, just found your channel and love the videos, the content and editing are great and it's inspired me to plan a couple of fly fishing trips this coming season into the Vic high country. Looking forward to seeing future videos if and when you may do them, all the best 👍
Glad you enjoyed them Pete. Good luck on your high country fishing this season!
Hey Josh do you mind sharing what river this is or the general vicinity? Looks a bit like the Grose to me.
Two very awesome videos mate. I would think that with the fact that you’ve got over one thousand followers with just the two vids says volumes about your capacity to produce excellent content. Don’t doubt yourself, keep up the good work, like everyone else, I’m looking forward to more.
Appreciate the comment and support mate
New sub mate! Keep the content going.
Another great video Josh. Please keep them up!
Thanks!
Great video editing, story etc. I’d love some tips on your fly fishing too. Well done . Keep doing what you do. It inspires me too
Thanks for the feedback Phillip, glad you enjoyed it
God's country. The envy is strong in me.
Great video Josh. What time of year was it filmed?
The best time
Mate that was a class video and you're clearly well able to shoot footage and edit. Get more content out!
Thanks mate 👌
Mate, that was a real epic edit! Some great fish there. Keep them coming 👍
Thanks mate
Really enjoyed this. Great work. Looking forward to the next adventure
Brilliant. Should give your gear a plug. Keep it up Josh
9:34 looks like a real cutthroat trout! But I don't think we have pure cutthroats in AUS. Could be the time of year?
Hey mate, yeah definitely rainbow trout, just coloured up at that time of year
what is the name of this stre3am?
Great shots, editing, scenery, commentary etc. So much better than most of the stuff on TV and with no budget. Keep it coming, Josh!
Glad you enjoyed it mate, thanks for watching
Love the beautiful river!
Just have to say Josh. Your processing skills (editing) is awesome. Love the films you have created 👏🏻👏🏻
Appreciate it mate
Brilliant, the snowies are just amazing!!
Thanks mate
Wow absolutely beautiful views mate. 💯💯💯
Hey Josh, I the quality of your content is always this good, It's no problem waiting for it.
Thanks mate
Thanks Josh for sharing. Heartwarming video in the wet cold winter day. Cheers from Latvia. 🙂
It’s a really cool thing that people from all around the world can appreciate the same things. Thanks for watching!
Your Blue Mountain river adventure looks more like some streams in France ........the colour of the water is so blue. and the vegetation is very European. Skilfull work , take your time and keep it coming .
Just love the romance [ a quality or feeling of mystery, excitement, and remoteness from everyday life ] of the solo getaway to an amazing part of the world with a fly rod etc.......truly magnificent country, expertly captured and skilfully edited. World stage stuff in one of my very own favourite part of this great country. Thanks Josh
Very kind of you to say, I’m glad it resonated with you!
I am really impressed. Sitting in the other end of the world. (Land of loop 😊). Experiment a little on filming myself fishing but the two interests tend to collide. Glad to see how you are perfecting it. Curious about your camera gear. Please share if you want to. Tight lines! /Sweden.
Thanks for the kind words Ola. I have been filming these with the Sony fx3. Originally I was using the 16-35mm G master lens but as I wanted to reduce the weight as much as possible I switched to the 1.8 20mm g Sony lens for this one and was happy enough with it!
Such an awesome video man! Love the shots I grew up in the mountains never fails to amaze me that place. I’m quite new to fly fishing what’s the best leader to run with a 5 weight rod tapered or not? Love to hear you thoughts
Glad you enjoyed it mate. If I’m using a 5wt it’s probably because there’s the chance of larger trout getting about so I’ll generally use a 4x tapered leader. 9 or 12ft depending on the situation. I’ll go down to 5x if the fish are fussy
@@Joshtreds that’s awesome mate thanks so much for your advice! I’m loving learning how to fly fish
Tapered leader
Looks like you are close to Wheelers ?? Beautiful country
Great content Josh. Would love to hear about the gear you are using without be too salesy.
Thanks Rick, what gear in particular would you like to know more about, the fishing gear or the camping stuff?
@@Joshtreds definitely interested in your camping kit but would love to hear more about your fishing kit as well.
