Workshop Series: Retro ATX Case Restoration (easy fix!)
Please don't throw away ugly old faded cases! They can be brought back to look like new.
In this short video I restore a very poor retro ATX case, bought for very little off eBay. Originally made in the late 90's, it had badly yellowed plastic parts and the painted metal cover was also pretty tired.
It is easy and cheap to repair something like this if you know what to do.
I hope this video helps you restore your own computer cases back to their original glory!

I got a HP XW6200 Workstaion Board, and the Dell Poweredge 1800 board, even got the PSU's and heatsinks and they're still not wanting to power on LOL. Thats a beast, im curious are you getting quad channel with all that Ram only My Dual Xeon System, i think Huananzhi lied to me about there motherboard cause i can only populate every other slot, meaning i could only run 64gb not 128gb which sucks, yeah hard drives arent dead mate, its the cheapest way to get large storage, i have two hdd server's a main (dual amd epyc 7302 with 120gb (dead channel should be 128gb 8gbx16) ddr4 3200 rtx 3060 12gb)and a backup (dual xeon E5 2690 V4 ddr4 2400 cpu limited speed shouldve been 3200 Radeon RX580 8GB) both have roughly 45TB of storage using NAS and Regular 3.5" HDD's, i mean im also using SSD's and NVME Drives to, but the bulk of the storage comes from Spinning Drives. I also think fast fans are prefferable to quietiness for best performance although that does sound very loud Delta 10,000rpm fans or Noctua at 3000rpm? i know other raid types are safer but i stick with raid 0 for speed.

My system, with all programs I use (vlc, office 2003, avast, virtualbox etc), only 3.18 GB. Only 450 memory used at startup. I5 3330 with 32 GB of memory. And XP totally loaded in RAM at startup. Way faster than SSD. It's just way faster than my more recent setup.

  • @rootbeer666
    @rootbeer666 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Multi-processor machines are pointless for gaming because of low processor to processor bandwidth, and disjointed memory space (each processor controls some of the memory). If one processor nees to access memory of another processor your game will be slow. Stick to single multi-core processor where all memory is local to any core where your game process may spawn.

    For me the peak of Windows was 2000. I have a Intel i3 9100f and GTX 460 rig with a 1TB Hitachi HDD running 2000 advanced server with the extended kernel, and it is amazing. It is a shame that more people don't develop newer software like web browsers for vanilla 2000; many of the XP ones like MyPal only works on 2K with the extended kernel. In fact, that is the only reason I even have the extended kernel installed. XP was good, but 2K I would say was the true peak. And 2K also natively supported DX9 so technically a lot of XP games should run on vanilla 2000; a lot of them are artificially blocked or require a new version of .NET Framework or Visual C++ for no reason at all

    "I can say that in my decades of using windows XP..." - thats all fine. But this is just a single experience. You shouldnt extrapolate from yout personal experience to a general assumption about XP and its security. XP's core design stems from a time period where kernel and OS hardening just wasnt a thing fot Microsoft. There were buffer overflow vulnerabilitirs aplenty. Only with SP2 and the hacked together "firewall" things got a bit better. But the main line of defense was basically: Try to not let any harmful code on the system or start praying. Most modern security features in the windows line of OSs were introduced with Vista and redefined with 7. XP cannot be recommended for anything than a standalone PC that needs XP because of legacy software that cannot be replaced and doesnt work under 7 or wine. You tell us yourself of all the precautions you follow when using XP to browse the web. But whats the point then? And a final thought: It's also not just about your security. Every hacked system can be used as a relay for attacks, as a spam machine or for DDOS purposes. If you want to feel nostalgic, thats fine and all. But for anything else any recommendation of using XP is just not a good idea. Oh: The military you quote pay millions to Microsoft to get special patch treatment. And they do not continue to use XP because it's good but because an OS change means to redo really exhaustive and ultra expensive re-certification processes which would render the systems unusable for months to years.

    I personally miss windows XP and 7 so much. I ended up using windows 7 as my main os up until around 2019 but had to upgrade as it was getting harder to get modern applications running. Windows 8-11 has too much bloatware and useless crap I do not care about at all. Oh and Microsoft always forcing updates down my throat is enough to make me want to move away from Windows but unfortunately there's no other os suitable for me. Linux users love to recommend moving to Linux but Linux just isn't Windows plus I only use Nvidia GPU's and use countless programs that Linux doesn't support. There's no decent OS that I genuinely like nowadays.

      Well, for the record, I state on this video that XP is my "favourite" version of Windows, not the "best" version, and especially not the best OS ever made (to which I certainly wouldn't be choosing any version of Windows). Which version of Windows any of us might feel is the best or their favourite is entirely subjective to the individual. This is why I always chuckle when I say "XP is my favourite version of Windows" and people comment "Actually, you're wrong.", well I can't actually be wrong when I am making a statement on something that this down to my own personal taste. It's like my saying "I don't like the taste of shellfish" and someone says "no, you're wrong." I know you're not saying that yourself, but some others are, usually followed with a predictable comment about Linux (which I also use daily, but this is a video about XP, not Linux, which is why I don't talk about it here). It's not a video about Windows 7 either. That said, I do think Windows 7 was indeed an excellent OS, and although XP is my favourite, Windows 7 is a cats whisker behind for me personally. Many people have said version 7 was their favourite, and I totally get that. I will probably do a comparable video about Windows 7 at some point. Best OS for the PC ever? Well, in my opinion that goes to OS/2 Warp. Best OS for any computer ever? Again, my opinion only, but it'll be one of the original UNIX systems, probably Sunsparc Solaris. Most influential? CPM, followed by Windows, followed by Android :)

    How did you ever find XP as an efficient OS? It was 2000 with bloatware and (although nice looking) heavy for its time theme. Makes me think you havent used Windows prior to XP if you think 11 is so much worse. People are fighting AI tools now like they were fighting IE integration in 98

    • @B00MERTEC
      @B00MERTEC 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And 2000 was NT4 with bloatware 😂I've used every version of Windows in anger commercially from 3.0 upwards (the ones before that I've only played with). Yes 2000 was excellent (especially its server versions) but I found XP much more refined as a general purpose OS than 2000. Also 2000 was specifically a commercial OS, it was not particularly friendly to novice/home users. They were expected to use Windows ME, which was, on the whole, poor. I was trying to train people to use both 2000 and XP, and they all took to XP far easier. XP for me brought the power and stability of 2000/NT to commercial and home users alike as one operating system, the final merged product of their home and business lines into one good solid OS (the Server line remained distinct of course). I didn't find XP very heavy on the hardware of the time. Yes, more so than 2000, but not excessively so. And XP did have an option to use a Windows 2000 interface, which did speed it up a bit, if you had a crap computer.

      @@B00MERTEC don't have the time to leave long comments, but 2000 introduced so much that NT4 didn't have, it was basically the first NT OS able to be used as home OS because of that. The 2k interface only helped GPU, XP has way more bloat slowing CPU down

      Well, it's always good to hear others opinions. But, having had machines running XP online more or less continously since it came out, and never having picked up any virus/trojans/words/malware in all that time, I just don't think it's as bad as some people like to make out. Unless the user is an idiot and opens any attachments from anywhere, downloads dodgy exe's from seedy websites and all that kind of stuff. In any case, even if one of my XP machines does succumb one day, I'll just pull the hard drive and write back my backup image, all of 5 mins work. There is nothing on the machine to steal or hold to randsome. Maybe some game file saves :)

    • @windowsalternative2203
      @windowsalternative2203 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's very lucky I think because these are not opinions, these are the facts that ulitimetly lead to Microsoft to create Windows 7, feel free to do some research on XP vulnerabilities due to buffer overflow and the then you well see what I'm talking about, tons of information and even videos on the subject. I got my entire HDD wipped out back then and since I didn't have a copy of XP and it was on the PC when I bought it, I had no restore disks or copy of XP, so that's when I moved to Linux for a time, because I really wasn't doing great finachally back then and Linux was free. This happened not from being an idiot but rather doing my taxes on Turbo tax all them years ago, so assuming everyone an Idiot who says this is ludicris, I had Virus protections AVG and a firewall in place Zone Alarm and I didn't Outlook Express and only used online email, these excuses that they must have done something dumb just don't hold water in my case, perhaps in some though I mean we allknow those people exist but I wasn't online searching porn, Just saying. @@B00MERTEC
