Just another broque musician who is obsessed with baroque music.
My name is not important but the story I want to share is. As a classically trained pianist/violinist, I faced significant challenges that were exacerbated by my lack of access to a real piano. This ultimately led me to quit music. After 6 years, I wandered amidst the darkest bilgewater, confined to a ship for 3 years, devoid of life. In a bid to reignite my musical passion, I got an accordion thinking it was a portable piano. It was so much more and is now my favorite instrument. Post-ship life, I discovered the harpsichord. It's lack of dynamics, often considered a limitation, became a source of beauty and intrigue for me. Taking away the familiar dynamics of modern music allowed me to truly appreciate the other subtleties of musical expression.

I discovered the harpsichord 2 years ago and enjoy playing and learning about the instrument even more than the piano. It has been 13 months since I have posted a video because I have been looking for an instrument I can play consistently. I plan to make videos full time now, especially since I was also gifted a broquen (zuckerman single) harpsichord that requires major repairs. For the next 15...

At the time of this video (MAY2022), I have played accordion for 9 months (one hour a week). Since then I have added more voices, ornaments, and dynamics but have not had a chance to make a video due to my occupation. Please enjoy my first draft arrangement of Vivaldi's Winter I. Stay tuned as I'm working on posting a video of the full concerto soon. Thank you for your patience and support! Des...

NEW VERSION! th-cam.com/video/XpNP0cYcJPE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=l3xg-Vg2T_Y1szFj Please let me know which video you like better. :) Despite the subpar performance and editing of the two videos from 2023 (this video and th-cam.com/video/oBSU7pYAqaU/w-d-xo.html) They serve as a testament to my initial discovery of these instruments and my undying passion. Do not give-up your day job, BM !!
Oh I agree, that’s too risky for now at least. I really do hope to make videos full time in the future though. I have some crazy videos coming up. (Composing, arranging, making improvised instruments) This is just the beginning.
@@broquemusician All my best wishes for your future success and happiness !!
This is fire! 🔥🎶 Will have to check the other video as well... Such an inventive channel name, by the way - 'cause aren't we all a bit, haha ✨😎
Thanks for commenting!! If you didn’t notice, “broque” is also a homophone with “baroque” style music and instruments which is a focus for this channel
@@broquemusician Definitely noticed that - our specialty as well! 😉 That's why it's such a great pun!
another very good performance, thank you for recording it
Thank you so much for watching!!!
A cascading waterfall of music. I really like baroque.
m.th-cam.com/video/XpNP0cYcJPE/w-d-xo.html I wonder which version you like better! Thank you for commenting!!
Wonderful! You play like a big ansamble
wonderfull !
Excellent. I'm impressed (former Cleveland Orchestra chorister and piano recitalist).
Wow thank you!!!!!!!!! I’m not a professional so that means a lot to me. Thank you so much for supporting me at the beginning of this channel.
Well! I wasn't really a professional either, til I got drafted unexpectedly into the Cleveland Orchestra's chorus by Gareth Morrell, now conducting at the Metropolitan Opera. Quite a backup band we had. I joined AFM that year, so I guess that makes me a pro, but I always thought of myself as an amateur! After hearing you play one of my all time favorite works, all the more so. My favorite version is with George Malcolm at the harpsichord, with Munchinger conducting Stuttgart. Thanks for your kind answer. Kudos ! And hope to hear more! (Hope to support more, too, when I can.) @@broquemusician
Fantastic playing. You really bring this to life.
I have really, REALLY enjoyed your performance of this first movement of 1052. The wonderful counterpoint of Bach has been made exceptionally clear and vivid.
Excellent ! 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much!!!
It's so fantastic! I would like to listen whole Four Season of Broquemusician version.
Splendide.
This version is more mature and colorful. Great job.
Thank you for commenting! Some people preferred the other version because the harpsichord sounded better to them. In person the green one sounded better to me. I may need to learn better microphone placements and types.
Good job
Amazing!!
Hello, I'm "like you", a classical musician (violinist) fascinated by baroque music. I had the chance to play this whole concerto 2 times in concerts in Japan last year, with a pianist. And it was fantastic! Although I play a baroque violin that was converted in 19th century, i always wanted to play it with harpsichord and baroque style violin (tuning, strings, bow, technique, etc...). Your solo version is very courageous! I know the feeling of playing and recording music written for an ensemble, but without the other musicians (same when I have to record for an audition to be admitted to an orchestra). Some ideas: Continue to practice, never give up, find other musicians to play with (you just need a string quartet and it will sound already "grand"), and listen (not to copy but get inspired) to my favorite version by the harpsichordist Jean Rondeau, which is not only a very good recording but also excellent to teach to let us know, as non professionals th-cam.com/video/XcsfDxojdV8/w-d-xo.html and good luck!
I love your comments! Thank you for sharing the link, I also really enjoy the video. Have you seen my new version of this piece? th-cam.com/video/XpNP0cYcJPE/w-d-xo.html I wonder which video you prefer. I am going to try to find some string players or maybe edit myself playing both parts. I have never seen or played a baroque violin yet but I am fascinated and looking for one.
Best harpsichord ever!!!!
Thank you so much!! I'm working extremely hard to do this full time. I learning about better editing software and microphones. Please look out for more videos soon. :) This isn't my harpsichord, a colleague allowed me to play on his instrument in his storage unit.
Please identify yourself, for the respect.
At this time I cannot share my name because it is not something I want to promote on this channel. www.youtube.com/@broquemusician My channel description talks briefly about my background and vision. Most people favorite part 😆 that's true! Maybe because there Is a pedal note as in 6:28. Your favorite part (and the ornamento) It Is also mine. Good Job!
I added new ornamentation in my new version please let me know which video you prefer! :) Thank you for commenting! th-cam.com/video/XpNP0cYcJPE/w-d-xo.html
@@broquemusician i would not ornate the basic theme (d,e,f), to preserve its identity.. yes any other
@@sergiogiudici6976 now that you mention it, I do agree, thank you.
I can't say which performance I prefer. But the first harpsichird has that rich sound of a German design. While this one seems more confined. Perhaps of a Flemish or Italian design. I did a little research based on your query into this topic. Please let us know what they are and who made them.
Thank you for your comment! First harpsichord is a Hubbard French Double Kit (surprising huh) by Jas Paul 1977. This harpsichord is a Flemish Single by Carl Fudge 1971.
Do you think it's a microphone issue? The first video was shot at a different angle.
I really like the sound of German and French style instruments. The Flemish instruments sound relatively confined. Purposely modest. Like comparing the architecture of the three cultures during that time period.
@@andrewtannenbaum1 I heard that some of the instruments were purposefully voiced heavier to make them louder. I am having so much trouble distinguishing if its the instrument or the voicing that is making the instrument louder because I only have 3 sample instruments so far. Further investigation needed. I'm posting a video of an Italian harpsichord in the next few days (that I voiced) I have been cautioned not to voice too heavy or too light. So I'm very curious if you think it sounds more or less confined. :)
I have never seen or played on a German harpsichord yet. I'm sure Bach played on a lot of German harpsichords considering he is from Germany.
One hour a week? How much do you practice the harpsichord? I struggle for hours on end to learn a Bach invention or a simple church hymn. I try to sense the keyboard without looking, with only speculative success. I feel a bit gifted by music. Others are gifted with it, as well. I enjoyed your performances, BTW.
I found the answer to this in your response to another comment. Makes sense. Still a lot of talent.
I've never heard the solo arranged version of the Concerto! Wonderful!
On this channel you will hear many more solo versions of baroque and modern songs. :) I'm doing this full time now and currently learning a more advanced video editor that allows me to edit both left and right audio. What is your favorite pieces/songs?
amazing!

Estarei postando muitos mais vídeos em breve, estou aprendendo um novo software de edição que permite áudio esquerdo e direito. it would be awesome to hear the third movemtent
The third movement sounds magical on harpsichord, it is usually overpowered by orchestra in my opinion that's why i prefer solo or duet. I'm learning a new video editor that allows for both left and right audio. Will be posting more videos and the third movement soon. Thank you for commenting!
this is really super. great ornamentation
Thank you! I came up with some of them (like on 4:55 and 5:47)
I love it!!!!!!
Thank you!!
This is absolutely incredible, fantastic work. Thank you for upload
I’m currently working on many new videos simultaneously and learning a new editing software that can edit left and right audios. So far it’s just been iMovie and iPhone camera and mics HAHA. Thank you for your support so early on in this channel!
Please, play the third movement, I would like to hear them by you because I liked your old video of this concert
Okay I will! I love the third movement! For the record, do you prefer this video or the original version? th-cam.com/video/OgHqM-CGWWk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qvBExTAATMmLHB9U
@@broquemusician In the original version i look the playing with more passion despite the mistakes, in this new version i hear a more careful rendition
Thank you for your observations! The first video I was excited to play harpsichord for the first/second time and was just playing. The second video I had more pressure to improve and add ornamentation and use more harpsichord technique and less piano. You are onto something.
Queremos más. Muchas gracias !
Brilliant performance! Totally wonderful fingering-technique - with these skills you have an amazing future! Thank you for posting!! Greetings from Canada!
I have to visit Canada one day! Did you see the northern lights last weekend? Have you seen my new version of this piece? I wonder which on you prefer. Thank you for commenting! th-cam.com/video/XpNP0cYcJPE/w-d-xo.html
Much improved over the old version. Articulation is much better and more consistent which is the most important aspect of the harpsichord technique in my opinion. Well done! I would really like to listen to your renditions of D. Scarlatti and J. K. F. Fischer pieces
I am extremely new to harpsichord music so if you have any recommended pieces of scarlatti or fischer please let me know! I haven't heard of Fischer just now thank you for commenting!
Awesome for the silence
Thank you for your comment. It was very risky for me to do that because I’ve never seen anyone pause that long for BWV 847. I just assume baroque music is more open to timing interpretations especially since the instrument has no dynamic capabilities.
