Born and raised in Tennessee before eventually spending 15 years working in Seattle. I have traveled to 30+ countries, but now my wife Ali and I are making a go out of living and working in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Here I'll share videos of life in Mexico and our experience of building and remodeling our homes, as well as our travels outside of our home base. Thanks for watching!

They've only been open about a year, but have already expanded! We love La Modosita Grill's burgers and fries. Friendly staff and a popular spot for locals in the up-and-coming neighborhood of Dario Galeana. Check them out - you can find them on googlemaps. Interested in our Rental Properties or Services? Barra de Potosi Hillside Group Hike
มุมมอง 17114 วันที่ผ่านมา
Well, another tough day at the office! A group of 10 of us sought the faro barra de potosi on the 150m high hill overlooking the town. We made a few wrong turns, but eventually found a trail. It led us about a-third of the way up the hill before disappearing. We'll give it another shot, I promise. Here are the highlights from this adventure. Still trying to find all the area's hikes! Ali and I joined friends for Paco's Foodie Tour here in Zihuatanejo recently. It was a 1,100MXN per person tour and it took about 4 and a half hours. Hiking Above Zihuatanejo

We ventured off on our own, again, to find a cool hike. I thought perhaps we would find a cave near the highest peak surrounding Zihua. No luck. No good trail. We'll give it a go again if we can convince someone that knows what they are doing to lead us. Interested in our Rental Properties or Services? Tire Destroyed By Pothole on the Mexican Highway
มุมมอง 5932 หลายเดือนก่อน
I hit a pothole dead-on heading back to Zihuatanejo from Manzanillo last week. Fortunately the tire was the only thing damaged. Thanks to a friendly motorcyclist, a knowledgeable tuk tuk taxi driver, and a local tire shop, we were back on the road in under 2 hours. Here's the story. Visiting Manzanillo, Mexico
มุมมอง 5622 หลายเดือนก่อน
Ali and I spent 4 nights in Manzanillo last week. I've tried to button this up to a tight 8 minutes, covering the various areas and a few things we definitely think you should do. There's some really good hiking, and I wish we were able to do more. We didn't have any luck finding great food, compared to everywhere else we've visited in Mexico. I'm sure we'll be back to try again, though. Thanks...

@@MexicoMattandAli How is April & May 25 look?
@@MexicoMattandAli will send through website. THANKS

My wife and I will be in Zihua from Atlanta May17-26 and would love to book a tour with you if you do that. We always enjoy your videos of special hidden places to eat. We also enjoy the tips on buying property in Zihua. Keep the good work up. Virgil and Lorie
Thanks! We have a great guy that can give tours. He's been in a few of our videos and is awesome. If you send me a message through our site I'll pass along his info.
We definitely going to try! I kind of lost the location on the video so where exactly is the place please?
It's in Dario near Lety's and El Duke. Check them out!
Pro tip on the cheesy take away 👍🏻 Those snap lid containers are the bomb. Get one with the glass pyrex container if you can. I make my own ceviche in them. See you cats in November 😳
Gracias! I'll pass on to Ali.
Thanks for the review. I enjoyed the shrimp burger. It was delicious. The little fry basket is cool. Good tip about the to go container.🍔
Thanks! Y'all are the best!
Good deal I check that out next month when I go
Great walk in the morning..
Is ATT as good as Telcel all over Zihua?
It's worked well for us over the past 5 years
Nice try. Maybe you could see some trails on Google Earth or another satellite view, depending on the amount of foliage present when the satellite photos were taken. 🌵🚶♀️🚶♂️
We tried! Maybe we will save the next attempt for when you're back.
Buying a house in Zihuatanejo, who is the best attorney in Zihuatanejo, perito? I really appreciate your input, thank you.
Not sure, but definitely a good idea to have an attorney check the paperwork.
Contracts are the dumbest thing ive seen come out of america, where i live i buy a phone and can choose ANY carrier i want, even a us one if i wanted
This is really helpful. Thanks!
We are in the process of selling our home in the Chapala area. We are interested in finding a property (house) with about at least a half to 1-acre for our dogs and a few chickens . Where would be the best and safest area ?
Zihua is really safe. Spend some time on the ground visiting the different parts of town and you'll find the place that feels most comfortable.
Churros👍🏻 Our apartment during our few months stay was couple minutes walk to La Flechita Roja. Often busy but being close meant I could find quiet times to eat there. I miss that.
This is something I would love. Love of cold beers and great food!
You guys are brave...
I think you mean crazy :)
At 7:45 trolling for cactus. Thanks for another awesome post. We are in Veracruz later this year then Ixtapa/Zihua Jan 15 to March 12. Looking forward to seeing you two again.
Nice, Veracruz where Jose Azueta, who our city was named after, was killed 100 years ago.
Thanks for the history info.
Sitting on the beach drinking beer looks like more fun!
Great views from up high. Is this the hike Adrian wanted to take us all on? I'm guessing you both lost a little blood on all the thorny brush. Trekking poles help in that type of terrain with stability and also moving thorny branches out of your way as you pass. Good effort, and Ali sure is a tough hiker!😊👍🌵
Yes, I think so, but I got sick of waiting for him to take us. Rough terrain, and Ali is nuts!
No way! Thank you for the video. Now I feel like I completed the trail too.
Muy bien! You guys probably by now has been in more places than many of us! Have a great day y gracias por por compartir.
We love exploring every corner!
Here in Texas…we saw the full eclipse. Absolutely amazing! I’ve Never seen anything like it.
I'm jealous! We were 600mi away from the path.
@@MexicoMattandAli once in a lifetime opportunity and perfect view from the backyard. But jealous of you too. Zihuatanejo view daily. Can’t go wrong. We are scheduled to visit there in June for my Birthday…..can’t wait! Been watching your videos. Love them.
Rodrigo is your neighbor as well if he still manages the hotel in the same street that you guys live. He is one of my youngest friends in town. We definitely going to eat there. Gracias y buen día.
He's a good guy, and our neighbor!
Is this still a good destination for a vacation ? Heard possibly less tourists going there . Are there still alot of restaurants to go to ?
Yes and yes! All good here!
Are the ticks dangerous? I went there a couple days ago and I found 2 ticks on me
I am not sure, but hopefully you didn't get bit!
Great video :) Do you happen to know how to contact Roberto (owner) who rents out Villas Arely?Located down the road from your condo? It is the big white building (shown briefly in your video) to your left as you reach the top of the rustic stairs climbing up the hill. Trying to find an email to reach out to him. Appreciate any info please?
Thanks! I don't know anything about that building. Sorry, and good luck!
excellent
Hey Matt - We just got back from our 2 months in Zihua and Troncones. Couple of things. We were on La Ropa and saw a mass wedding. Apparently every year Zihua does a mass wedding for people who want to get married and maybe can't afford Tres Mujeres in Troncones. There were about 40 couples, there was a desk like at the wedding you went to and there was a table with 40 little wedding cakes. Old and young people were getting married! We congratulated a young couple walking out to the road from La Perla. They thanked us, then got on their motorcycle, the bride in a long white dress, and drove away. Don't know if you noticed but right next to where the wedding was at, Tres Mujeres, they are building 20 condos, which has lead to a lot of discussion about building in Troncones. Thanks for the video
I saw photos from that event on La Ropa, but didn't know it was an annual thing they do. Troncones is becoming more and more popular!
Interesting ceremony. Thanks for sharing!
Nice Matt! I have the endurance but when food and deserts are introduced it quickly fades and I have to switch gears to prepare for food the impending coma.
Hi Matt….we are looking for a place to stay there for my 50th Birthday in June. Love your condo. Do you have a link you could send me or options on how to rent for a week.
Sure, zihuatravels.com has Casa de Ali, the pricing, availability, and booking info. Thanks!
How is night entertainment there now...10 years ago was usually Franks or The General .
It's still Frank's and The General!
Go vols
GBO! Big one Friday!
So pretty much nothing else to do except surf there
pretty much!
Do they have more than one?
Thanks for the video, I didn’t know Zihua did anything for carnival.
Nice! 👍🏻
How would you go about removing a capacitor that still has charge? There is no where I can see to discharge it with a screwdriver
Did you feel safe there?
yes.
I was in Michoacan last year and I may go again and I want to go there.@@MexicoMattandAli
I do not understand why some people in Mexico buy nice cars. I would buy a suv or truck. Good Video.
thanks!
Glad to see that you got to see Diego Garcia and Paul Pigat. They are both fantastic players!
Good thing you had Ali with you. Lol😁
Things happen quicker when I'm not around!
What a great post today. Gotta watch for livestock, potholes, topés and my nemesis the dreaded reverse topé. Thanks! We were motorcycling in Belize near the Guatemala border, a remote jungle area, lost an axle nut, luckily going slow and Denise was off the back at the time. Locals showed up immediately and located an axle nut who knows where for us and off we went. It’s a different culture.
Thank you! People generally want to help here. It's pretty amazing.
That looks freaking awesome. I grill every day here in Apache Junction. We will be staying for guitar fest next year.
It appears that you had an interesting visit to Manzanillo. Thanks for the tour!
We like seeing new places, but always come back home to Zihua!
🍺
I brought my guitar back to Arizona a couple weeks too early 😿 It’s been unseasonably freaking cold here in the desert 🌵 in Apache Junction, next year gotta stay a lot longer. Take care and thanks for the TH-cam vids.
driving sounds brutal, airbnb looks amazing
Hello. Good advice here. How do you arrange for a private driver? Do you have a number?
Thank you. I don't have a number to provide, sorry.
Safe travels, guys! Looking forward to seeing your adventure in Manzanillo. We’re back in Zihua on March 8th. Maybe we’ll see ya around ;)
Thanks! Little hiccup getting back, so I'll have to share the story soon. For sure, we'll be here!
Haven’t been to Barahona in over 20 years
Not our favorite city in the D.R. I would recommend Bayahibe as a city not as well-known that people may enjoy.
