I started living on my boat because of the extreme costs of renting an appartement here in Amsterdam, and it turned out to be the best decision I have ever made in my life!
So i decided to share a part of my life with you, just to show that life has more up her/his/ it's sleeve as one might think!

I made progress on my boat, with the galley and my bed. It wasn't a walk in the park with those extreme temperatures inside my boat, but I am happy with the progress! I did escape the heat, and went for a bike ride through the city centre. Enjoy!

de mistery knop, ik heb op onze boot ook zoiets, allee had ook zoiets (heb het gevonden) naast het stuur. als de motor spanning aanstaat en je drukt erop dan hoor je een relais klikken, bij onderzoek is dit een relais die de service en start batterij parralel schakelt om zo meer stroom te hebben voor het starten. Op men huidige boot is dit omdat de startbatterij nogal juist bemeten is, op men vorige was dat omdat de startmotoren (GM detroit toroflow diesels) een heeel zware startmotor hadden die tot +900A kan trekken note je kan de klik enkel horen als de relais dichtbij staat, of het dat is kan je best merken als je wilt starten hou de drukknop ingedrukt en je startmotor zou moeten heviger zijn dat kan je horen. Hai Patrick, ik kan op het knopje drukken tot ik er moe van wordt...maar hoor niets. Geen klikje- geen gezoem helemaal niks. Het knopje zit ook naast mijn deur, dus voor het starten van mijn motor lijkt het mij dan op een erg onlogische plek te zitten. Maar...ik ga op zoektocht, en hopelijk kan ik de reden voor dit knopje vinden. Bedankt voor het kijken Patrick! 🙂
I'm still up in the air about the concrete blocks in the bilge, still wondering if the radar works, if there is a marine radio installed or if there is a fish finder. Also, still wondering what happened to the old Lady of Life. You got a nice clean and dry engine compartment for sure. Is there an electric motor to go with your dinghy? What would be quicker, biking all that pier you have to traverse to get to the shower or would it be easier/quicker to take the dinghy? As far as the button is concerned, possibly a starter button for the generator? You didn't show much as to the location of the button in relationship to the boat. My guess is based on if the button is near the helm or shore power hook-up. If it is in the master bedroom, i would guess it starts the bed to vibrating. 😀 Happy boating. 🙂
Well Phillip, you sure know how to ask the right questions my friend...I will tell and show all about the electronics in the next video! I do have an electric " engine" to go with my dinghy, but that is somewhat useless to me...it has almost no power! Walking would be faster! The old Lady of Life will be for sale soon, I still need to take some stuff out first. About the button, well I have an idea about it, but again it's for the next video. @@theladyoflife If it is electric, it is a motor, if it is internal combustion, it is an engine. That would be the correct usage of the two terms although people do call engines "motors" a lot. Electric cars have motors, gas and diesel cars have engines, even though we often call them motors. Steam powered vehicles are also called steam "engines" because there are pistons involved. Motors have no pistons, only a LOT of wire. 🙂
@@philipangus088 Electric motors have a lot of wires.......On the other hand, you petrol " gas" ! You usa people confuse the shit out of the written English language ! ;-) 🙂
@@theladyoflife I got my info from "Webster" dictionary of the English language. Check the definitions. Yet another attack on my heritage? You couldn't just say "thats what we call it here"? You had to attack me for being an American? I thought you were going to leave politics out of this format. So yes, lots of people confuse a motor with an engine. Anybody with any engineering background knows the difference. Diesel "engine" gasoline "engine" steam "engine" electric "motor" Looking forward to your next video! 🙂
We have I think quite similar taste in boats - generally classic I think. I do not like the fast modern large speed-boat style just like you pointed out. I think I am against the fact they are very expensive to buy and run with actually quite little space. I appreciate workmanship, beauty, comfort and liveability.
Yupz, a boat needs to have something special-something classic. Those modern plastic boats just don't cut it for me-not even when they are made to look like something classic. Thanks for watching! 🙂
I do love Dutch people. positive, friendly, engaging and wicked multi-lingual. I follow with interest. Why not use wraps to really cheer those old wood surfaces up?
Thanks for the kind words! I could use wrapping for the surfaces, but I am afraid they will come loose because of the moisture inside the boat. ( a boat will never be as dry as a house). So it's gonna be a whole lot of sanding and painting for me, but I don't mind. Thank you for watching! :-)

@@dadejazzba402 The button is located next to my door, so for it to be the horn is unlikely. I have an idea about it, but I will address that in the next video 😀

The rails the doors slide in, are glued in. Lifting the doors does not give me the clearance to get them out unfortunately. Thanks for watching 🙂
@@theladyoflife very strange. Can’t get my head around how they installed the doors then glued the track into place. I have seen sliding doors installed, shelf lying flat inside and the inside door lifted and moved back into the cupboard. Repeat the process with the front door panel.
Prachtig schip! Een "werkdame" prachtig vind ik dit soort werkschepen. Zit zelf ook in een aankoopproces ve dergelijk schip (scheepje, 10m) dezelfde lay-out. Geniet van deze eigenwijze dame! Ps: waarom zoek je geen toegang tot de kraan vanuit het aanrechtkastje?
Dankjewel, ik ben erg trots op deze dikke dame 🙂 Via het aanrechtkastje kom ik niet bij de kraan, die zit achter het kastje. Veel plezier met je nieuwe boot!

The only word i heard you say about the blocks in the bilge, that was different than anything mentioned, like "ballast or weight" was the word "balance". If that isn't the hint, than i guess i missed it. I do have another comment on the sliding shelf doors. I couldn't see the top door guide but i did see the bottom guide and it looked rather deep. Look at the top guide and if it is only half as deep as the bottom one, somebody installed them backwards. The deeper guide needs to be on top so as to allow the space to make the doors removable. Check that out and let me know. Hope i helped. 🙂

Stephan!!! I found a connection to us from WWII. I live in Cleveland Ohio and at the lakefront there is a WWII Submarine (now a museum), the USS Cod hull number 224. Apparently, The Cod assisted in the aid of a Dutch submarine that had run aground somewhere in the Pacific. i have watched the footage Phillip, and there is something that strikes me to be a bit weird.....Why do some Americans make a big deal out of something....NO Dutch man could or would know? Why is " heroism" such a big deal on your side of the pool? This all strikes me as weird....just weird!.......sorry if this might offend you!
@@theladyoflife Has nothing to do with heroism but rather camaraderie. They were doing nothing heroic at all. Between the two crews, they were unsuccessful of freeing the sub and ended up destroying it to keep it from enemy hands. The Cod only acted as a bus to take the Dutch to port. Nothing heroic there either. I saw it as a story of camaraderie, so sorry you read it as any other way. Two crews, working together to a common goal. The two crews even partied afterward and this year is an anniversary year in which the caretakers of the Cod are celebrating the friendship of American and Dutch relations. Anyway, that is what i was talking about. I don't know where you got that "heroism" message from. Sorry i offended you and your country. You sure are touchy people over there on the other side of the pond. 😀
@@philipangus088 If I missed the camaraderie then I am at fault Phillip! We here in Holland are keeping us to our selves....we have heroes of course....but none of them wants to be known for that! We do not speak about the war (WW2)...but you better buckle up when we do! FUN FACT....it was NOT the US that freed us....It was NOT the Canadians that freed us....The first platoon that freed us was.....Polish! (A Historical fact!). Fuws.....and I said I don't do politics or religion......whoops! Sorry Phillip!
@@theladyoflife Not politics either, is history and the U.S. freed nobody. It was the combination of all allied forces, especially those of the countries that had been occupied, again, working together to a common goal. 🙂 I'll anxiously be waiting for your next video when you reveal the original purpose for the ballast. 🙂

@@ajw1467 I think I know what you mean....The ballast was never a part of the original design of the boat. Adding ballast would seem like a stupid idea indeed. But.....it's not! Ik merkte het tijdens het monteren van de video...niet gek voor zo'n klein katje 😉😂
Whenever i encountered sliding doors on shelves, usually, there was clearance enough in the top guide, so you could lift up on the door and pull the door out at the bottom and it should clear the bottom guide. Concrete ballast. There must have been a reason for all that ballast in the bilge. Perhaps it was put there to keep the boat low in the water when it was in the North Sea to help with roll-over prevention. Could have been the divers just wanted it sitting lower in the water. I think i would remove them evenly for sure. So anyway, i'm happy the sink was an easy fix. Hope there are no more "surprises", unless of course if you happen to open a panel and find $100,000.00 in unmarked bills. Other than that, happy boating. :-)
Well Phillip, usually it works like that with sliding doors...but not on my boat of course 🙂 That's why I think the bottom part wil come undone easily. I wil give that a try. The ballast, well unfortunately you are wrong here, there is a reason for it, and I will address that in the next video. Oh and I am counting on more surprises, let's hope that it has something to do with money, because I am bleeding it, my wallet is crying non stop 🤔. Thanks for watching again Phillip! Water maker?
You need reasonable clean water to start with. And that's not available everywhere on inland waters.
That is something I need to have a good look at. But even with a watermaker, I need tanks to put it in. Thanks for your comment, and thanks for watching! 🙂

@@theladyoflife Een watermaker werkt met membramen (en zeer hoge druk) die ongewenst zaken filteren. Denk aan zout, slib, metaalzouten etc. Door verschillende voorfilters zorg je dat het membraam niet te zwaar belast wordt, cq. te snel dichtslibt met allerlei grove deeltjes. De waterkwaliteit rond Amsterdam is zo slecht dat een watermaker hier geen leven heeft. De kosten worden dan erg hoog. Als je verschillende vlogs van zeezeilers volgt dan merk je dat ze zelfs in een ruime baai of grote haven hun watermaker niet gebruiken en pas weer een eind uit de kust aanzetten, dit alles vanwege het gebrek aan helder water in de buurt van land. Water is in Nederland goed en goedkoop verkrijgbaar. Met een paar ruime tanks (schip heeft voldoende draagvermogen) kom je een eind. Verder zou je van regenwater tamelijk makkelijk adequaat spoelwater kunnen maken, maar het opvangen, filteren en controleren is eigenlijk te veel werk voor wat het oplevert. Denk vooral aan je douche. Zodra je water 'verstuift' moet je erg oppassen voor legionella besmetting. Dat ga je tegen door hoge temperaturen in je warm water circuit (denk aan 65 graden) en door je koudwaterleidingen ook echt koud te houden. Dus uit de buurt van radiatoren en op gepaste afstand van je ww-leidingen. En misschien voor de zekerheid een legionella filter op je douchekop of je douchekraan. NB. De binnenvaart verbruikt ruim water, maar ik ken geen schepen met een watermaker. Alle water wordt aan de lichter 'geladen'. Vlak bij jou!
@@omvaren Dankjewel voor de zeer duidelijke uitleg! Ik volg idd een flink aantal zeilkanalen, en ik had de indruk al dat een watermaker niet zaligmakend is. Ik ga toch maar voor grotere watertanks, immers is water bij de meeste havens gratis. Bovendien zit ik niet te wachten op een potentieel gezondheidsrisico aan boord ivm salmonella ed. Nogmaals dank voor de heldere uitleg, en bedankt voor het kijken 🙂
ik zou je toch wat dikkere meerlijnen aanraden, maar mooi schip ziet er stoer en zwaar gebouwd uit, alleen je lijnen zou ik aanpassen, groet Ronald.
De meerlijnen staan op de lijst om vervangen te worden idd, goed gezien! Het schip is mega zwaar gebouwd, het dunste staal is 6,2 mm en het dikste 7,3 mm. Ze weegt minimaal 22 ton, dus het is een zware dame 🙂 Dankjewel voor je compliment, en voor het kijken naar mijn video!

WOW! A LOT bigger than i was thinking. Nice boat! Did i say boat? More like ocean going working vessel. You know, i was thinking about the North Sea and saw videos of it. Not so sure i would chance it in rough seas, which the North Sea is noted for because of how shallow it is. She sure looks sea-worthy enough though. Question: how many engines, props and rudders is on that boat? Did you do a short full-power run to find out her top cruising speed? I certainly hope she can do a bit more than 3-4 knots. Hey, it was fun following you down the river on google maps again, just like old times. I got lost on the river and missed the turn to Amsterdam, ended up in Rotterdam. Then i saw the way you actually went. Fun never-the-less. I can't figure that boat not having a shower, being it is a divers boat. I would think that after a dive, they would want to rinse off in fresh water. Enjoyed the trip for sure, happy you got the new-to-you boat. More spacious living. Happy boating. :-)
Well, in rough seas the North Sea is one of the most dangerous seas in the world, so no-i will not go to sea in rough conditions. She can handle it for sure, but I think I can't 🙂 1 main engine ( 270 BHP)-bow and stern thruster 1 rudder- topspeed about 8 knots. The shower, well that's a project I will start in a couple of weeks. Thanks for watching again Phillip! 🙂
@@theladyoflife I dare say, bow and stern thrusters are the way to go with such a long boat having only one prop. Again, nice boat. :-)

@@theladyoflife jazeker, Firefly is een ouwe sci-fi TV serie over een ruimteschip van de "Firefly" klasse, genaamd "Serenity". Ook een film van gemaakt, en de naam op je boot (zelfs het font) is identiek aan wat er in de film zit :) Dus een vroegere eigenaar is blijkbaar fan geweest :D

prachtige boot, veel mogelijkheden beter redelijk leeg dan kan je zelf inrichten naar smaak, een echt groot achterdek, wij hebben dit ook 4x5m heb er wel een bach rond die ik kan openen nooit gedacht dat dit zo leuk was, heb er enkelen zetels op, koelkast, expresso en tv, kortom gezellig tot november , van half oktober tot december verwarming met gasfles en schuur verwarmer, simpel (je moet wel voldoende verluchting hebben), mocht je Belgie aanvaren laat een seintje altijd welkom voor koffffie.
Er zijn idd genoeg mogelijkheden...ik zit te denken aan een jacuzzi 😜🤣 Mocht ik in de buurt zijn, kom ik graag even een bakkie doen hoor!
Firefly on the dash, name of boat is Serentiy??? Wow! I am also a big fan of the short lived American tv serial "Firefly" and the accompanying movie, "Serenity" Would be a huge coincidence! Congrats! She is a lovely boat!
I don't know what the deal is with " firefly" and the name Serenity. She will be renamed hopefully very soon. I do love her, even with the wrong name 🙂 Thanks for watching!

Best days of a boater's life are the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it (hopefully for a bigger boat).

WOW! Nice boat. When you said just a tease, you weren't kidding. Looks bigger than the LOL you got now. Did you use the LOL as a trade-in or are you going to sell her on the open market? Looking at that radar tower on top, i would say "stay clear of that bridge that took off the fly bridge of the old LOL." Can't wait for a shot of the whole boat. Right now i am picturing a serious fishing vessel of sorts. I like the idea of those rubber bumpers going all around the sides and a really cool looking anchor in the anchor port which is a nice touch as it is. Loving it so far Stephan. Is that a fold-down after deck i see in the rearview camera? Does it have a fish finder as well as the radar? Does it have a marine radio? GPS? CMON!!! give us the lowdown soon. Well Phillip, the new Lady is a bigger Lady indeed! (not wider though!). It's not a fold-down aft deck...it's just the engine cover ;-) I will show her to the world soon Phillip, I promise 🙂

yr fan is full of dust. take the grille off and clean the dust from inside the grille and from the blades. it might stop the noise
That fan was to far gone, to dirty to handle-so I bought a new one. The new one is slightly bigger than the old one...and makes even more noise! I can't catch a break with those fans 😆 Thanks for your comment, and for watching my video! Cheers! 😃
i now the feeling we had a 11m gallart witch was great but we wanted to stay more on the boat and want some more space. So we went to the uk to see a trader 54 in Newcastleupon tyne,it was cheap but needed a complete rebuld. on the way back to Belgium we visit 2 other traders outside our budget just to see. And the prize of the best was negotiable and we changed to a 59ft trader, witch is a lot of space, still dont regret it glad that we did it, it just bigger but if you dock slowly no big probs. If jou like it take a good look and get it you live only once
I like your way of thinking! It's called YOLO I believe 🙂 The boat I looked at has a bow and stern thruster, so docking should be fairly easy, especially because I wil handle her alone. Thanks for your comment, and for watching! 🙂

Sorry about your foot! So frustrating to have plans and have them foiled by such limitations and pain! I am sad for the Lady but happy that you will have a new boat! Find a good new owner for the Lady! Can't wait to see your 'new' boat!! Take care!
i wil sell my Lady to a responsible new owner ( this must be the weirdest sentence I have ever written 🙂). You are right, the frustration about my foot got the upper hand and I have to be honest to myself, that I have these limitations now-and live with it. Is there a reason you didn't shower in the rain instead of using up your water supply? I would have been out there singing and entertaining the other boaters while i bathed. Yes, i would wear skimpy swim shorts, not naked. If you didn't want to spend so much time waiting for the mint oil to drip into the spray bottle, you could usually get a small syringe or eye dropper for free from the local pharmacy. I found that out when i had to use one to give my cat her medicine. So, not allowed to kill the spiders but it is okay to harass and torment them with mint spray. Ha ha 200 kph? That IS fast. Too fast for me to be driving unless i know a "team" of mechanics has just gone over my whole vehicle to make sure it was safe enough to do so and i was wearing a full seat belt harness, helmet and had a roll bar installed.. Call me chicken. Ha ha WOW! A new (different) boat! That is some big news. Not so shocking but definitely big news. So what will happen to the Lady of Life? What would be less expensive, to have her shipped to me or should i fly there, chance crossing the pond and traversing the St. Lawrence to Cleveland? Joking of course but i do like the cut of her jib. So hopefully, instead of us watching you work on the boat and killing spiders and such, we get to follow along with you on google maps, some tours of the canals and such there. Does the new boat have a fly bridge? You didn't fair too well with the fly bridge on the Lady of Life. Can't wait to see the new boat though. Stay chilled, hope all goes well for you and will be watching for the next video of the new boat in a couple of weeks or so, unless you plan on doing a fair-well video on the Lady of Life. when it rains I can not fill my tanks, because rainwater will get into my tanks. And with that I get bacteria in it that I really don't need. The boat I looked at has no flybridge, but has some preparations made for a flybridge. Maybe I will do a farewell video, I don't know yet. @@theladyoflife I didn't say fill the tank while it is raining, i said take a shower up on deck when it is raining, saving the water in the tanks. Do you use the tanks for drinkable water or just for washing and taking a shower? I think i would use bottled water to drink and cook with.
@@philipangus088 Whoops...well I can't shower in the rain, but it will upset my neighbours I'm afraid 😉 The tanks I use for drinking aswel, the quality of tapwater here in Holland is really high, and absolutely safe to drink. I disinfect my tanks atleast once a year, and it's working great. Bottled water is pretty expensive here, because the tapwater is that high quality, so almost nobody is buying bottles here.

I see at about 1:17 into this video, you have ladybugs too. Did anybody else notice that? I think it is a ladybug but not sure. I wonder if ladybugs like peppermint. I was a little concerned about the weather for your move to the repair dock because the hurricane that went up the east coast of the U.S. was still strong and headed your way but i see now that it is going across England, well north of you. Moving right along on the work i see. I'm kinda anxious to see what is going to go back up there and waiting to see the new lighting setup you mentioned. Happy boating. 😀
You are the first to mention the ladybug, but I had seen her in editing 🙂 I don't know if they like peppermint, but spiders do hate it very much! (spoiler for the next video!). The weather here is fine, no storms yet...The lighting setup has to wait a bit, first I need new ceilings and floors, and I need to finish my bed situation and I need to...and also need to...etc etc. So definitely tons more of videos to come 🙂
