Humanity Is [Not] Beautiful - NieR Replicant
After years of wanting to make this video and over a year of writing it, I present to you my analysis of NieR Replicant exploring the characters of Weiss, Emil, Nier and Kainé covering both their journeys within the game and in Grimoire NieR’s short stories, the latter being rather crucial and underrated in how they shape each character!

Naminé, Marluxia and Overcoming Envy - Kingdom Hearts
มุมมอง 29Kปีที่แล้ว
An analysis of Naminé and Marluxia, two great characters I don't see discussed much in relation to their dynamics and arcs. It was great fun revisiting Chain of Memories with context to the rest of the Dark Seeker Saga and making a video again in general after so long. Fingers crossed for future moments with Naminé and Marluxia! Special thanks to: - @KHVidsNETStream for all of the console game ...

Roxas, the Fight for Identity - Kingdom Hearts
มุมมอง 47K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Roxas's story of finding his own identity and his relationship with Xion and Axel has always been one that has resonated deeply with me in Kingdom Hearts, especially the impact it left on me after KH2. After Kingdom Hearts 3, I wasn't so sure what to think of his story anymore, as it seemingly "ruined" or undermined his arc. But after reflecting on it in this analysis, I've realised that it's t...

A Past We Don't Understand | Cowboy Bebop
มุมมอง 45K4 ปีที่แล้ว
The past is complicated, to say the least. Cowboy Bebop is a classic 1998 anime that depicts the perspective of 4 others: Spike, Jet, Faye and Ed, and how they deal with the past individually within their present-day bounty-hunting lives. Twitter: AfterHoursGear #CowboyBebop #Spike
They definitely made the greatest choice in anime history by choosing kensuke ushio to be the main OST producer. The OST is just perfect.
Such a amazing movie i watched it 2 days ago and Ive rewatched it 2 times already i love this movie it helped me personally the ending gave me a lot of peace and hope and this video made it even better
Being a nobody is a blank canvas to build connections... Deep. Very good analyst overall.
Thank you! Glad you liked it :D
Great video
Thank you! :)
Thank you for this explanation and deep dive into Marluxia and Namine
Thank you for watching!! :D
Im late to this I've recently finished this I didn't like it at first but this morning I decided to rewatch it to see can I connect to the anime more and get a better feeling for it and when I did I loved it it was something special it had me in tears through alot of it the anime may not be for everyone but for me it hit so deep and it was honestly so sad yet so beautiful I'm glad I gave it another chance
I'm happy to hear! It's definitely an intense experience, very open-minded of you to give it another go and am glad it payed off!
Wonderful video, i love this series so much. No matter how many times i hear, watch, or play through these stories i tear up everytime. Yoko Taro's so great at making me feel hope for what feels like our hopeless world. Louise's story is my personal favorite, it's just so tragic and beautiful. I love how it mirrors káine. I also love ending E. And how Reincarnation shows the other perspective.
Thank you!! And that was wonderfully put, crazy to think Louise's story wasn't in the original release since it fits so beautifully in the narrative.
Hey, gearvanguard, can you PWETTY PLEASE make a Ventus, Terra and Aqua analysis?!! I think I need it... Seeing how good your analysis are, I'm sure you can take so many things from there... PLEASE!!
Hey! Very flattered by your enthusiasm! I do have a lot to say about the wayfinder trio and hope to talk about them eventually! Unfortunately, it won't be anytime soon due to health issues and other projects, but once I get things sorted I hope I can deliver!
@@gearvanguard ok, I can get the waiting behind those factors... Wish you well!!
The sea salt trio are a tragic sad group😢
could you elaborate on your points from 16:57 - 17:05 ? felt like a typo or I just didnt get what you meant here. curious is all
great vid!
Thank you! And sorry for my late response! Nishimiya viewed her suicide as something that would help Ishida; she believed she was only a burden to everyone around her especially Ishida who had lost his friends twice while in her presence. But it was his own actions that drove his friends away, not her, but she could not see that because of how self-depricating she was and her misunderstanding due to constantly being out of the loop. In truth, she wasn't a burden and was someone who was worth keeping in Ishida's life because she gave so much to him, a second chance, forgiveness, a friend etc. So what Nishimiya thought was the "right thing to do" was (suicide to release the burden of those around her), was actually the worst thing she could have done for those she loved because of how much they cared for her. I hope I could answer your question!
@gearvanguard Yeah, that explains that perfectly. thank you.
Exacly, such a tragic love story
I know im a bit late but this video was somehow calming. Just wanted to tell you the video is really good!
Thank you! Appreciate the sentiment regardless of time very much :)
amazing video essay!!! marluxia’s character, especially in light of union cross, is SO fascinating. and naminé is such a stellar character who absolutely deserves this love. plus shoutout to the appreciation for my boy repliku at the end! not entirely sure if it’s relevant, but marluxia’s storyline being tied to envy is also so fascinating when you consider that it was arguably envy that took his sister away from him. ventus wanted friends, he wanted some sort of power, he wanted a place to belong and to matter… he must have been jealous seeing people around him have friends like that. obviously he would’ve never actively chosen to get all this by killing someone and stealing from her, but the darkness that overtook him definitely was feeding on those feelings of desire. he didn’t even know her and yet she had everything he wanted, and the darkness must’ve known that, which is likely why it targeted her. he filled the role strelitzia was supposed to have played in the group and in lauriam’s life. and yet none of this gets resolved and it’s all forgotten… moral of the story is envy ruins lives, right
thank you so much for the kind words and share, I'm very grateful!! It's awesome how later entries can do so much for earlier stuff in the series, can't wait to see how future games like Missing Link, KH4 and everything onwards will add to UX and the series in general. Like what we've seen from Marluxia/Lauriam may only be the beginning of some really incredible payoffs. And that is such a compelling reading that never came across my mind!! I did briefly mention Ven to contrast how he overcame his emptiness with new connections unlike Marluxia who used his, but this adds a whole new layer of meaning. In a sense, their journeys echo each other's at different points, both committing actions of envy that stemmed from the void in their lives that they'd eventually regret (though we haven't seen Lauriam's regret yet, I'm sure he will/does feel it). Thank you for sharing such a cool observation!
Exactly what i needed after finishing the movie! Thx.
Thank you :) an amazing video
Thank you! Glad you liked it! :D
In "Days" notes, we find out Kingdom Hearts itself saw him and Xion as its parents, and was ready to power thwm, should they ask. If during 2, he had only bidden his time instead of attacking Sora over Axel...He was so close ! Gaining himself ! Instead, he settled for the depressed suicidal Witch. Kingdom Hearts could probably help her too.
This movie is beautiful, it was my first introduction to anime and it was my cousin who showed it to me. It always makes me cry and as someone who isn’t even disabled I can still relate to the hatred nishimiya felt. This movie and manga will forever be part of me.
What an introduction to anime! Glad u could really connect with the film :)
The reason i think he returned to Sora is because that was the end of the road for him, he finally has all the facts laid out in front of him, and having lost his friends, his identity, and being denied of his own life, wouldn't you give up too? He truly had nothing else left for him..........
Yes he did. I JUST WANTED TO LISTEN TO SOMETHING WHILE SCRAPBOOKING, WHY AM I CRYINGGGGGGGGGG
My bad...
@@gearvanguard its a great essay, man, you really did roxas and his friends justice, this is amazing
Thank you!! Makes me happy to hear :)
Ironically, it's its lack of classical beauty that makes it uniquely beautiful. This series, while hopeless, gives me immense love and passion for our race.
Organization XIII vs. Baroque Works
So what ‘’order’’ should I play the Neir stories in ?
I would recommend Nier Replicant → Automata → watching Reincarnation on youtube (since it's not playable anymore). This link is if you want to consume everything, but I recommend against it if you don't KNOW you'll love the series. Try Replicant first then see if you want to delve deeper into the series. x.com/ThreeEyedGemini/status/1726379468212638061
KH and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX music in a Nier video is not what I was expecting. Really good video tho!
Holy shit, out of all the tracks I used, GX was easily the last one I thought anyone would recognize! I'm actually so stoked right now hahaha. Appreciate the compliments too of course :)
Watched a lot of lore videos about Nier Replicant over the years, but absolutely loved this approach. Great work!
Thank you so much! That means a lot :)
i just want to say i have loved replicant ever since I played it and consumed everything connecting to it..this video was so good and gave me additional perspectives I didn't pick up even years later. thank you for making this
Thank you so much for the kind words!! Replicant is also really special to me and I hope I did it even half the justice it deserves. It's comments like these that make it all worth it :)
I'm impressed how much your editing style has improved over the years. Good job mate!
Glad to hear that, appreciate it!
Some things to clarify: - the backstories of Weiss, Halua, Nier and some of Kaine's in the video are from Grimoire NieR, a book of concept art, guides, interviews and (most importantly for the video) short stories related to the game. - details surrounding Tyrann and the Shadowlord's pasts are from the NieR Replicant Drama CD which covers events surrounding Project Gestalt, Legion invasion, Emil fighting aliens and more. - the images used for human Weiss & Rubrum, Emil's teacher, the seafront man and Tyrann aren't real art of them but are placeholders for visual purposes (though Tyrann's image was made unofficially by NieR's original character designer D.K, of what they imagine he looks like). - the character quotes for Grimoire Weiss, Rubrum and Emil are from director Yoko Taro's other game known as SINoALICE which had a collab with NieR Replicant. Weiss also has another beautiful weapon story for ver.122... that I didn't use but will link below (IT'S SO SWEET) sinoalice.fandom.com/wiki/Grimoire_Weiss_ver.1.224 The part that hits me most is "I wonder if he, too had felt any relief from his sins." when talking about Emil. I talk a bit about their parallels of embracing who and what they were but I never realized how they connected to each other in their guilt. And for Weiss to ponder something so heartfelt is really meaningful to me especially given how he is in the game and how rare they interact.
👏🏽
<3
Yoooooo! It's so good to see you again
Bear! It is great to see you, I hope you've been well mate
Brilliant essay! Id like to think that if marluxia had retained his memories from KHUX, he would have helped Namine more directly, since she resembles strelitzia personality wise. I cant wait to see what they do with lauriam in the next game, and i hope that we get to see him and namine reconcile in some way.
Thanks! Definitely agree, his personality in UX is quite distinctly different in general too to where I don't think he'd do smth as malicious. I hope they get a good moment together, or it could be a slow burn since it was such a negative experience for Namine. Either way, I hope something happens!
I just found this video and your analysis on Roxas tonight and man, this is some really amazing content! I love how in depth you go into the characters beyond what is displayed in face value. You're an amazing writer and your content is outstanding! Take as much time as you need king, your videos are dope!
As someone who spends the majority of my video creation on the script, this makes me extremely happy to hear! Thank you so much for the wonderful words <3
Just wanna say I mainlined all these vids and they are fantastic. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Means a lot that you enjoyed my other videos, appreciate the kind words too! :)
IDK how I just now pieced this together but KH3 ending is so good because YES, everyone FINALLY got to go to the beach!
It's so sweet and neat how Roxas is able to fulfill something he daydreamed with his friends both in the organization and data world
@@gearvanguard RIGHT?! haha honestly made me boot KH1 back up and start another run xD
Very deep and thoughtful, really getting to the heart of Roxas and his connections.
It's a shame so many people sleep on CoM, because it does WONDERS for all of the characters in it. ESPECIALLY Namine, who became one of my favourites in the series after that game.
thank you Naoko Yamada
Namine is so tragic and amazing, im glad she got her second chance at the end of kh3 despite her insistence in the final world that nobody would truly miss her
Couldn't agree more!
Roxas is Sora without the support system. They are way too similar to be considered different people. Sora is that bright 3pm Sun while Roxas is the twilight Also, Axel/Lea being treated as the same ruins the message
Thank you, someone finally said it! There are also similarities Roxas to Ventus's personality too. Strip each personality trait from Roxas and he is a carbon copy of both Ven and Sora who have a natural real personality. Ventus had his own personality in two places with his first life in Daybreak town in Union Cross with his fellow keyblade friends that were facing destruction (he was quiet too back then and faced a lot of problems from being accused of actual murder, accidentally being possessed and murdered Strelizia, having to come to terms with being a keyblade leader which his quiet side wasn't ready for yet showed bravery when things got heated like Roxas was showing) and with Aqua and Terra in his second life in BBS (where he opened up a bit more and his bravery and boldness shown more than in Union Cross next to his kindness). No matter how many 'real' experiences you have, what matters is the personality of your soul or in this case the heart- who is the real you, the real personality. A experience may shape you in some ways but it's not the entire core of you. Sora and Ven have traits to their own personality but Roxas is just a fusion of them having no personality except for his experiences being with Axel, Xion and Namine, how he felt in the organization and his fake digital life with digital Hayne, Pence Olette and co. It also seemed when Roxas was brought back or looking to be brought back, Sora lost his bravery and boldness he had in KH2 and Roxas took that for himself leaving Sora very naive and dimwitted like in Dream Drop. He seemed to regain a bit of his KH2 side back in 3 but he still had damage from his silly side in DDD. When Roxas was back in KH2, he had that boldness and bravery than Sora originally had. Having Roxas 'be his own person' now breaks the plotline of having Sora be whole in KH2. When Roxas fused with Sora at the end in 2, Sora was complete again but if they are separate now, Sora isn't complete. His personality was rather weak and dull in DDD compared to his KH1, 2 and his brave/bold half in a part of 3. People just like Roxas based off his struggles with existence and coming to terms with it while Sora didn't go through that drama bs. I get it but if people compared and did a full analysis of Roxas from Union Cross and BBS to Sora in KH1, 2 and bit of 3, Roxas seems more like a mirror of the two. NOW Xion on the other hand, I felt sorry for and wondered if she was the same Xion from Days after she was brought back in 3 or was she a copy of Xion from Days thinking she was Days Xion? She may be a copy of Sora and Kairi but she was the one I felt for. Namine has traits from Kairi too which I am also upset about. Is Kairi a full complete person without Namine within her?
@jeannepucelle I would say they are complete. The only thing I hate is they expect us to see Roxas as separate from Sora, but Lea/Axel as the same person. All members of Org 13 needed to have that dilemma Like, Lea calling Sora "Roxas" everytime Sora mixed the cue. Remind did a positive thing by having Sora and Roxas swap places while in the replica In fact, it makes me wonder why we didn't see more Terra in Xemnas
Nagatsuka a real one
Relatable.
Easily one of the best films this anime movie film is hands down the best i don't understand why it didn't win the oscar against the boss baby as nishimiya is actually deaf the actors aswell and her talking isn't easy or understandable so they use sign and it seems like the oscar was being bias overall The movie film is great but shortened as they didn't waste time on romance I'd assume that's why shouko ran away and didn't sign it to ishida she was very embarrassed
This is insane. The way you intertwine the different narratives and character arcs and connect them with KH's themes and story... Commendable work. You made me appreciate CoM much more.
Nothing makes me more pleased than to hear you could find a deeper appreciation for CoM! Thank you for the kind words <3
This made me cry, Roxas is my favorite character and I think I would’ve done the same thing even though it may not have been the best decisions he made sometimes, I know what it feels like to be confused about everything and even yourself. I think it’s impossible to make the right decisions if you don’t even know what’s going on and like Roxas, I have a strong sense of justice as well and wouldn’t just give up my life just because everyone around me tells me to. So much trauma and pain.
It hurt the first time to read the manga and watch the anime. When I was about 6 we moved to another city after my parents divorced. I was immediately bullied because I was the new kid. And taking those standardized tests did not help. I scored highest in the school for any grade level in 4 of the 5 years we were there. All of a sudden I was being told that I was not living up to my "potential" and for every report card that was not straight A's I was beaten, burned or both, at home. The midnight attacks were the worst. In sixth grade we moved again to a different city and the "New Kid" bullying started up again. This time I did what I could to get out of it. I joined the band and found a bit of acceptance there and later fought back against a bully by breaking his nose, dislocating one of his kneecaps and breaking his arm and clavicle. He, and his crew, left me alone for the rest of my time in middle and high school. It was worth the 2 week suspension. I got out of the house by skipping a few grades and going to pre-med on the other side of the continent and then medical school in Edinburgh. Lots of therapy and working with people who are seemingly well adjusted has helped me turn my life around. I try to find pity for them, because I know they must be in a terrible situation for them to think bullying is normal, but I still hate bullies and their parents. I make it a point to re-read and rewatch the week of my birthday. It hurts less and less with each re-reading and rewatching.
I'm not going to lie while this analyst is so beautiful. I think Kingdom Hearts mistake was bringing back Xion Roxas and Nanime as their own bodies I would have just love to keep those characters inside of Sora and Kyrie since they are they're nobodies because it felt like Kingdom Hearts 2 understood the reunion of whole now what I would have loved if Roxas and Sora you know talk to each other on the spiritual plane and figure out how to release ventus from sora's heart that would have been more of an incredible journey than oh look we need Roxas and them back just because.
10:35 Is that treasured memories from Kingdom Hearts 2.5?
This show absolutely broke me, ever since i watched it this movie has somehow never left my mind and im hoping it doesn't, i love this show so dearly because i can relate to most of the character and there struggles, in a part of my life i was in a really deep hole, i just lost my grandfather and i felt nothing, because of that i went into deep depression, terrible low self esteem, and pushing people away ,i never really recovere, just pushing it down and moving on with my life. Watching this show makes me realise that even tho a person such as my self, worthless, not very social, always seen my self as the outsider of all my groups, and that even if i dont feel loved or have ever been cared for i always know i will always have someone to help me up even if i dont have guts to share, this show really did impact my life and i hope i never forget of it. Highly recommend!
