Oh, how I wish the director had given us a view of his hands on this! (Yes, I’m watching it again!)
5:46 OMG
Holy moly!!
he plays with passion and energy, so good
very talented
Definition of sweet smoothness. J.s. Bach couldn't himself played it better.
Oh la' la' !!!
Guitar version is so much better, this busoni transcription mischaracterized the music.
Wunderbar!!
What exactly was "infamous" about it ? OK, he had a bad memory lapse in the second movement, but he worked his way out of it. I once saw Claudio Arrau in Carnegie Hall have just as bad a memory lapse in the Chopin Third Ballade, but he vamped through it and found his place in the score again. Rubinstein's live recitals, wrong notes included, were much more spontaneous and musically rewarding than most of his recordings. I know because I saw him live many times. And I think the way he played the last movement here was outstanding, technically and musically.
I’ve noticed more and more people using the word “infamous” as if it were an amplification of “famous” and not “famous because of something bad.” Perhaps that’s what happened here?
0:44 - Wrong rhythm. Too bad, I kinda expected more from Previn.
This particular etude was used as bg music in one of Charlie Chaplin's film..
What a gem. His playing transports me to another dimension.
The best of ...
Power!
Manche sagen, er spielt etwas nüchtern und kalt. Ich glaube, dass dieses Stück dann durchaus das Gegenteil beweist. Für mich die Referenz für dieses Meisterwerk.❤
the most talented pianist ever

Bravo Hamelin. I've been holding the same interpretation of this song as my favorite for 15 years and you just might have taken that spot. Bravo. This is my favorite song, and this is now my favorite rendition of it.
Como siempre cuando rubinstein o sokolov interpretan chopin es una fiesta para los oídos y para el alma. Qué placer !! Gracias!!
una grabacion a descartar
Porque? Era un hombre como todos los demás.😊
I am 74 and my greatest two life regrets are 1.not hearing you in person - and 2. not taking lessons from you. Your sound, approach, technique, attention to detail, musicality..! Thank you for sharing with us ! susie
Stellar! Rubinstein is always so musical
This is pute potency and musicality
This piece is definitely in my top five favorite Rachmaninoff piano concertos
Doesn't get better, one of a few last giants of the keyboard. No one close today. Projection was his gift. He became the instrument. Only Sviatoslav Richter could project with such, maybe more, artistry.

Very Very Good 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Very Very much 🙏🙏🙏
One of my favorite pianists, I saw him live in great Brooklyn and NYC concerts 1964. No question Rubinstein understood and had a majestic way of playing the polonaises and mazurkas, but my favorite was Horowitz superb renditions of this in 1967 and the great TV concert of 1968.
Who says Bach is not Romantic?
La glorification de l'appogiature!
The phrasing from 8:50 is absolutely wonderful...
So much of Barber's work glows with intelligence, and not the commanding fireworks of prodigal genius, like Mozart and Mendelssohn dashed off because they didn't know how not to. No--Barber had a deep grasp of the sublime, a talent for polishing a good generative idea not simply 'til it glowed, but to the gleam of a burnish. In other words, his intelligence was possessed of both vigor and wisdom. He once lodged a grievance toward Prokofiev's composition, saying that despite its propulsive charm (or because of it?) his compositions weren't very well-organized. In fact, however, Prokofiev was the leading formal composer of his generation, yet only suffers when compared to the rarified perfection of Barber. A fantastic example is the third from last measure of this work, when Barber upends our expectations by modifying the sweet melody he's lulled us with so far; with just that endearing lallygag over three measures, the original four-note/octave-plunge/renascence is reversed, and so closes this piano treasure with a lyrical kiss.
