I clicked on this video because.. I had an almost one-off Wolfsburg built 73 Mark 1 rabbit convertible that came with lowering kit dual headlights and a body kit with the interior logos of racing Dynamics on the shifter and steering wheel, it also had the 80+ horsepower motor that came in the GTIs I had stored her and disappeared off on some traveling when I came back she had already been crushed 😭

NEVER EVER GET RID OF IT. I have 1, and I'm a VW HEAD ever since I was a teen. I've owned over 12 vw's. Corrado, 2 passat's , 2 cabrios,3 bugs, and more.... Nice video.
@@TonyMontana-wt4bu unfortunately this car got hit in the front a few months ago. I parted it out to save many more cabrios. I miss this car so much
@Leakyvws I see, & as a VW head, you'll find another one. VW's were my gateway into the brand, which started with my first 72 super beetles. If you don't speak VW, then you won't understand. They're great cars, you just have to take care of them in a passionately way. GOOD LUCK 👍
@@TonyMontana-wt4bu I have a ton of other VW builds on my channel if you are interested. I luckily had a scirocco fall into my lap and I’m working on rebuilding that currently
Ahu tdi
Vr6 swap in mk1 or 2 sux it destroys the handling. If you just want to go fast, they are ok, but they dont hook up as well because of how the power comes on
While it is certainly heavier up front, I’ve personally had no issues with handling since having the swap and supporting suspension mods. It rips and does great on the back roads which is what this car was built for. Only thing it could use would be a front sway bar. I’m looking forward to comparing it to my 16v scirocco once it’s finished to see which of the 2 drives better
Atmospheric Drum and Bass and mk1's have always gone so well together. Love it!
@@DeanAndryeyev lol I’m so glad someone else gets the vibe
They are to front end heavy 2.0 8 valve with a good turbo and tune and l&t enterprise in Allentown pa is the best spot for parts
@@ryanblase5322 I’m actually not too far from Allentown and visit l&t regularly
@Leakyvws yeah I've known them guys for years now Lenny Warren and Taylor
@@ryanblase5322 they come in clutch whenever I need an oddly specific part I don’t feel like buying new or just upgrading
@Leakyvws I've owned over 48 vw so far and I'm 47 years old now lol
@@ryanblase5322 I wish I had the space to keep everyone I get. I keep coming up with new ideas for builds and coming across “good deals” but have no where to put them
Did you make a drive video?
There is a video on my channel of driving the car over 800 miles straight when I first got it. I have not made a new driving video since it has been rebuilt. I’d like to get a nice mic setup and a 360 camera to make a video that does the car the justice it deserves
@@Leakyvws I’ll check it out.

Awesome. My first car was scirocco
@@Couture.m I’ve been searching for one for a long time but they’ve always been either too far gone or too expensive
Glad shes getting the therapy she needed. Disclaimer : im not the hoarder youre looking for though i am a hoarder
Nice job!
Good luck and thank you for rescuing an endangered species! I still have my black on black leather 84 Scirocco I bough {my first new car} and it only has 14.7K on the odo. My "winter beater" is a 63 bug (it has a gas heater) and the Scirocco is my summer/show car. Whenever I think about letting the Scirocco go to a new home, I'll take it out for a run, it's so much fun that I forget about selling it. I'm sure you'll love yours too.
That’s awesome! Currently cleaning the interior out. Expect a new video in the next week or so
You got to go European on the headlights and bumpers.
@@petergearing4796 this car is definitely getting euro bumpers. I actually prefer the US lights over the euro ones for these cars, I just like the symmetrical look
@@Leakyvws Fair play, personal preference is the most important thing. I owned a '85' 1.8 8v GTX in the UK and absolutely loved it. I will admit, more so than my mk1 and mk2 GTI golfs. Take good care of her and I look forward to the finished project.👍
@@petergearing4796 thank you, I look forward to giving it the love it deserves
I prefer the u.s spec headlights because from the front view it looks like a Delorean but the u.s spec huge heavy park bench bumpers have got to go, they are hideous asf.
@@lapulapupintado2892 agreed
D dreaming of owning a mk1
Such a good platform, definitely worth saving for
Nice find man!!
I use to have a 1984 scirocco 😢 more than 20 years ago this brings back memories Enjoy bud nice car 👍
Aw man this takes me back.
Also what's that green product you sprayed and brushed under the hood?
@@THE_BUNGL3R it’s just an old empty spray bottle that I filled with dawn dish soap
@@Leakyvws oh sick, I'll try that out. I've never done much to the engine bay other than vac it out. Do you have to pull or cover anything besides the battery?
@@THE_BUNGL3R yours probably isn’t too bad so I’d just try spraying it down with some quick detailer. That’s all I’ve ever done with my newer cars. It can get dicy spraying water on all the electrical connectors of new cars. But if you do decide to do it like this I’d definitely disconnect your battery and cover the alternator with a bag. Just lightly mist everything and it should be alright
Between vr6 & aba boosted
Honestly. I'm super impressed with the 1.0tsi that'd be a great motor to swap in it a super compact a bit more power and light package. Love my 2024 Polo 1.0tsi
@@teebee5317 I don’t think we’ll ever get engine here in the states unfortunately. However the 1.4t and 1.5t should start becoming more readily available here soon
@@Leakyvws just head to the land of the Taco lots of them here. We didn't start getting them until lately from Brazil but what a riot. Tiny little motor looks lost in the engine bay. I could swap a starter in 15min without laying on the ground. An alternator in about 25 min it's such a great little package. For low horsepower stuff its even convenient it has a water to air intercooler built-in into intake manifold no tricky turbo plumbing.
Don't sell it until you want to retire😊
Sir have you thought of adding a Spacer plate? How the Engine Doing? I have noticed that there are Zero Headers for My 3.6l VR6 non Turbo. Also I Don’t understand why no one has keep the Left side Pistons Together and the Right Side Pistons together! So i going to have a Special Header Made like that Idea which will be One header unit
@@gregoryh4601 the engine is way overbuilt for its current power. Just 268 cams and a tune so far but will likely see boost in the future. If I add a turbo I will also do a head spacer. Engine has been great so far I have just over 600 miles on it currently. Even at it’s current power the car is insanely fast and keeps up well with my stock r32
Mk1s in cape town are running k24s, 3sge single beams, sr20ve's
Would you daily this 🚗?
If it had functional wipers and didn’t try to catch on fire every time I turn the headlights on, I definitely would
That welding though. Good thing you got a lot of weld length on every weld so it holds by sheer volume hahah Good design though, much respect. These constructions are more difficult than they seem, I did a fair bit of them.
@@Markko1986 this was my first welding project lol. I had never welded before attempting this and there is a lot I would change if I had to go back and do it over again
good job! subbed
Aba block 20v head N/A 💪🏽😎
@@juanlj9339 I wish we got the N/A 20v in the states
@@Leakyvws Home Made
🚗✌🏼 love the mk5 GTI
My pick is ABA-T
I definitely did not give the ABA enough credit in this video. Over the last few weeks I’ve become very interested in building a high rev aba with bike carbs or itbs. Definitely the plan if I can find a decent scirocco shell for it to go into
@@Leakyvws I’m building one to hopefully turbo soon, with low comp pistons, metal head gasket and head studs:)
My current project is my 81 rabbit pickup with an 02j and a cjaa tdi
Hey I am thinking about picking up an 82 diesel just wondering how much and what else I would have to do to convert it to the gas vr6 motor
You would need a new gas tank or fuel cell. Also possibly a different cluster so you can have a tachometer. Other than that the vr6 will bolt right in with the swap kit
@@Leakyvws okay thank you so much I’m sure I will start posting it and I’ll update ya on the build your advice really helped me I appreciate it
@@Leakyvwsdo you know of any kits for the cluster and all the wiring?
Looks sick man!
Did u sand it again after the clearcoat? What grit did u use😅?
I believe I wet sanded with 2000 grit but you can use whatever grit the compound you choose to use will polish out
Nice barn
Thanks it’s currently home to a corrado and misc other VW parts hoard
I like the simplicity but effective work. That is how I have mine. Good work brother🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I sometimes miss the simplicity of this car. Don’t get my wrong, I love the way the car looks now with BLQs and bags but sometimes I think back to the roots of this build when I was a broke kid
Pd100 is the answer! Or alh
My 1.8t swap was sub 3k If I remember correctly. Thats with doing an 02M 6 speed as well. S&P mounts & harness, Custom made axles, Stock radiator w/ mishimoto fan, ebay intercooler and piping, tectonics exhaust and downpipe from amazon lol. Turned my rabbit pickup into a rabid animal lol
What size tires on the wheels? Mine are still sitting in boxes, need to fix that!
They are the 16x8 snowflakes and I’m running 195/45 16. They do rub a bit at the current height but I am running a 3mm spacer in the front to clear my coilovers and a 10mm rear axle stub spacer. I also have not trimmed my fenders at all which would likely eliminate most of the rubbing
@@Leakyvws Thanks, hard tires to find right now!
@@zbomb33 yep unfortunately the smaller tire size choices are getting scarce
Really nice video. S lot information thank you
I've had my 1.8t swap running well for a few months now and I've been loving it. I honestly haven't kept track of how much money I've put into it though
Great stuff thank you so much
Link to the head unit? My mkv ‘06 already has a touch screen apple n android play but im curious
It’s an rcd330 clone I got on eBay. The exact link I bought from doesn’t exist but similar ones are on there and Amazon. I actually purchased an eonon head unit for my r32 which I like more because it has wireless car play
You got it wrong the ABA IS A GOOD SECOND CHOICE BUT YOU REALY WANT THE ADY YOU CAN RUN MOR BOOST BECAUSE IT COMES FROM FACTORY WITH A CR OF 9:1 AS APOSED TO 10:1 AND THE ADY is the never engine so it doesn't have alot of kilometers on
I’m not to familiar with the ADY. Idk if we got it here in the states. Only reason I put the aba below the other options is lack of availability here and power in its stock form compared to the other options. That being said I love my aba in my cabrio and would never swap it for a different motor
