Correct Wearing and Features of the Maindeck Life Jacket
Your audio sucks.
Cheers very useful 👍
What a louzy sound experience.
What length is your leader to the first dropper?
Hi Jim It was 8ft from the end of the fly line to the first dropper and then a further 8ft from the first fly to the point fly.
Cheers bud.
Good information that Lloyd cheers pal
When you have something light and fluffy on the point I have trouble casting a washing line out there because there’s no weight - any tips Tom.
There is a couple of different ways, one method is to cast the rod tip down into the water as you deliver the forward cast. This will cause the team of flies to turn over lower near the water and potentially cut into or under the wind. If fishing with the wind behind you, and what I do more often than not is to sacrifice a little bit of turn over. And making sure you hit the reel and hold the rod tip high in the air. This will cause the cast to definitely stop and kick out from her fly line. You can also doing this by grabbing the line in your non rod hand to help kick the flies out. If you want to have extra line off the reel in case you are covering moving fish. Hope this helps.
Hi tom great video 👍. I was wondering what the sink rate of the rio hover tip line was that you were using.
Hi Gary The Rio sinks are 1” a second. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Cheers Tom
Thanks Tom, well explained video. As a guess what is the percentage of fish that come to the nymphs rather than the fab? When would you use a fab rather than a booby? Cheers
@@davidwillacy4796 it really depends on the day, some times the FAB or booby will take 90% of the fish. Especially if the fish are moving and you are covering and pulling the FAB to interest them. Other times nearly everything will take the nymphs on a normal day I would say the split is 60/40 in favour of the FAB. I would use a booby if I wanted to hold the flies higher in the water. As booby eyes will normally help to hold it up more. Due to the foam at the front, the FAB will also get pulled down quicker as foam is in the back. The weight of the other nymphs and fluorocarbon will cause it to sink quicker and sink with the “arse” up. So I find these better for fishing the flies completely static as you get a lowly slow drop of the cast.
I haven’t fished Thornton but I absolutely love Draycote and Eyebrook. We travel down from Edinburgh every year to fish them. Keep up the good work Tom. 👍🏻👍🏻
This is great. I’ve recently relocated to Daventry from the Scottish highlands and really keen to take up fly fishing again. Hopefully I can pop on soon for a chat and some advice!
Thanks lads, great video as usual. How close to the bank were you when you caught most of your fish and what sort of depth were you in? Cheers
We started the drift about 15 yards from the bank, as there was a lot of fish in the shallow water. We found these ones harder to tempt. However, we did get some. The most consistent area was in the middle of Stoke Dry in about 8ft of water, with the fish taking about 3ft down.
Top video boys , bright sun fish right up stoke dry
Boat booked for tomorrow, hoping to do what you guys just did 👍
Good luck, John hope you enjoy a good day.
One of the best fisheries in the country. If not the best.
awsume video
Nice work guys
What tackle box do you use?
Thanks for the bank info Tom very helpful
Nice job Tom, fair play.
What tackle set up used on this water, rod length, line weight, leader, tippet length, fly patterns.
Hi Paul The majority of the anglers use 9ft 6in & 10ft rods. In a range of weights from #6 #7 & #8 with #7 being the most common. In terms of leader, tippet length and fly patterns it very much depends on the conditions and time of year. Early season like the video leader strength wants to be nice and strong 8lb Plus with most people opting for lures and fluorocarbon. More the latest updates on the fishing keep an eye on the weekly fishing reports found on the www.flyfishdraycote.co.uk website.
Wow, possibly the most irritating sound quality ever, thought it was bad indoors at the start but was even worse on the boat, had to turn it off as my fillings started to ache😢
Hi Sorry about the poor quality sound, there was an issue with the audio on the camera. Which has now been rectified.
Nice one Tom; good knowledge - thank you.
Very interesting and informative video……
Thanks Tom!!
It wouldn't surprise me if that crappy music that you play drives a lot of people away from your Channel. Or at least this video. Nobody listens to crap like this
Keep the videos coming there great Tom 🎣
Thanks for that bud. See you all in April when hopefully it’s a bit warmer. Cheers
Thanks Tom, it’s nice to see what the locals catch on early season. See you in May. Cheers
Terrible video.
I wonder how much nylon and fly lines you had to cut off the props of your engines.??
Your comment of getting the fish to the net hard and quick is not what fishing is about. You are after numbers netted. I would rather enjoy the fight for longer. Take my time and play the fish gently. Enjoy the tug on the line. So what if it wriggles off eventually, I had caught it and played it. No need to net it to prove myself. Sorry but I don't understand you. Actually, most of the other featured podcast anglers are exactly the same..
Well said
@edwardpreston3663 I think you are slightly missing the point to his methods here. He battles the fish quickly to reduce fish mortality in the hot weather, by minimizing the tiredness and the lactic acid build-up of the fish, rather than risking the life of the fish for his own pleasure. Of course, if you are fishing catch and kill, this is irrelevant, but for catch and release in summer, Tom is taking a responsible approach here.
Great for this time of year fry bashing
Nice tying Tom, I’ve been using cock pheasant fibres rather than hen for the legs, will it make much of a difference? Thanks Also do you gink it up when you fish it? Thanks
Hi David Thanks for the comment, I don't think it will make that much difference. However, Hen pheasant tail fibres are soften and will hang in the water better. I don't know if the stiffer legs will make the fly sit wrong I.E the legs will hold the fly up off the water, rather than the hook bedding in. I do gink it when fishing, I have also in the past treated them in liquid mucilin after tying and allow them to dry if you want them to float for ages. Hope this helps
Nice video Tom, very informative. Thanks
Glad you like the beard hackle trick mate.. Nice one 👍
Hello Tom, just setting up a fly tying station in a spare room. Can I ask what that light is that you use please. Cheers And thanks for your content. <*}}}}>>
Hi Graham Sorry for the delay, this is a hobby light I picked up from Amazon. However, at Home I use a much larger version I got from the special buys at ALDI
Mr Millar was spotted coaching a young lady in this video. You can’t keep the old dog down can you!!!😉
Brill. Thanks
Enjoyed it. Thank you. Can you provide the recipe for the Blue Damsel Boobie? Thank you.
lovely little piece Lloyd informative .what a wonderfull boatpartner you had in Bill .
Forgot to say - good angling Bill
Great content from Lloyd and the team! Looks like you have settled in over there Sir. Really informative as well. Thanks lads
Excellent
Good , nicely paced informative format. Particularly looking forward to your Draycote experts in the future.
Cracking video Tom! How do you find the vice?
Hi Mark Thanks for the comments, I really enjoy using the vice it’s very simple, easy to use and good hold is amazing. If I tightened it up I can open a B175 straight with no movement on the hook.
What lamp is that please?
Hi Trevor It’s one I picked up from Aldi in the special buys section. It’s very good and was inexpensive. However at home I purchased a lager one again from Aldi, with a longer arm and light head.
Great video - as always on this channel. Thanks
Lots of good information lads.I hope to come down one year and fish draycote eyebrook etc.👍
Enjoyed the video mate!👍
Very nice work there.
