Welcome to my TH-cam channel! I enjoy filming and railfanning trains, if you do as well then you've come to the right place! I don't only just go on the Mountain-ex, I also go outside NH, to anywhere between Boston, MA, and the Reading & Northern in PA!
Conway Scenic Railroad: Return of the 1741!
On November 2 2024, the 470 Railroad Club ran their annual excursion on the Conway Scenic Railroad. The newly restored GP9 1741 would lead south to Conway from N. Conway, then would be sandwiched between the F7 units for the trip north and west to Fabyan's Station and return. We chase this rare tripleheader the full route, which makes for some scenic shots as the train makes its assault up Crawford Notch.
Thanks for watching!

On August 17 2024, I went to Pennsylvania to ride behind the Reading 2102 like years before. This time, the train was going up the Lehigh Gorge up to Pittston for the Tomato festival. The T1 works hard up the grades of the gorge and then descends back down.

Granite State Scenic: Spirit of the 1186

On June 20 and 22nd, the former Hobo Railroad ran the Leo caboose on shove moves for the "Grandite" opening of the railroad. The caboose uses a M3, which was previously worn on alco S3 1186. 1186's last time running a train was in fall 2018, and may not run another train ever again since the new owners don't have interest in it.
Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad: Lakeside Local with 302
มุมมอง 1.3K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
On June 21, I went to the Winnipesaukee Scenic to chase their GP7 number 302. This engine is rarely used, although is picking up use as of recently. With the main power, 1590, landlocked in Laconia, and the shoving caboose they use in Lincoln for an event, we see a rare use of both run-arounds on this trip.

Reading T1 2102: Riding Behind the Rambler [July 1st, 2023]
I love the deep sound of the F units. What’s the reason for using three locomotives? Just for fun? Isn’t the GP9 capable of pulling that train on its own?
yes just for fun. they usually do it with the 2 F units in years past, but 1741 was just restored so they wanted to throw that into the mix. however i dont think the 1741 could handle the train itself up the steep grades of crawford notch and up Conway hill (3.3%). they also want an engine with dynamic brakes on the train and none of those 3 had any, so there were 2 protection locomotives trailing the train a few miles back.
Thanks for the reply, I’m new to tailgating and model trains but I’ve always loved the CSRR. I’m still learning about the why and what’s of rail roads and locomotives. Thanks again.
This is awesome!! Do they still run their 0-6-0? I think it's 4070?
@@BillyRueckert the 0-6-0 7470 has unfortunately not ran for several years now due to a numerous amount of boiler and firebox issues. it's scheduled to be back next year, but they've said it will for countless years and that date keeps getting pushed. the 1741 project took priority, i think they will be working on 7470 now
@@Mountaindivisionrailfan252 That's great news, I'll keep watching!

I reckon they are a group of people that maintains old railways equipment (like locomotives and cars, as shown in the video) like museum does

Nice video man! I WAS going to be at West side road for the southbound trip, but I listened to my radio and i thought they were going to be going back to the station to resolve an issue. Going back to the station was definitely NOT the best idea for me.
i was definitely surprised that there weren't more people there! i saw 20 cars lined up at husseys field though so that explains something

Bold prediction here: they're firing them up in preparation for the 50th anniversary celebration.
@@jonathanp935, your bold prediction sounds very correct. They probably are doing that.
@@yoshiunknown y'know, even though 7470 might not be under steam, the f7s are next on my list of favorite engines at the Conway Scenic.
@@jonathanp935, I do wonder if 7470 is not under steam if she can still be brought out. The locomotive should still be at least put on display and even maybe people allowed inside of the cab. There would be no risk of injury because the locomotive would not be on.
@@yoshiunknown I think the way the owner feels about the steam engine (and he is justified in feeling like this) is "what's the use in bringing it out if we can't run it on the line?" The negativity that this regime gets for the way they run the railroad is absolutely not justified, in my opinion. Yes, they get crap for buying a lot of coaches, yes they put up fences so you can't even get on the platform, all that is true. There are reasons behind all of those issues. Understandably, people are growing frustrated with the lack of transparency as it pertains to the 50th anniversary, what I can tell you is that I emailed the railroad and the marketing manager and they both have said they are still working on the details for that event. Logistically, it's not easy at all to plan events like this at a railroad, there are things you have to take into consideration.
@jonathanp935 , I personally think there are many things that are going downhill. I feel like it's sad that the first ever engine can't even run on the day the railroad was established. Growing up around these tracks, this event is very nostalgic for me. I can also tell you it's more nostalgic for the people who started the railroad. The engineers, conductors, former narrators, and people who have gone before us who started this railroad. This event to some people is just showing off rare power moves, but to me and many others, it's honoring those who started the railroad. 7470 is the first ever engine, and the fact it is not running is disappointing. Even the fact it is named after founder Dwight Smith. Now, as we come down to the last month, not knowing anything is scary. This may be a large event, but they have had years of possible planning. I feel like it is very disorganized, but after all, we will need to see.
