That's cool! I wasn't sure if Fiddler crabs breed in home aquariums. I don't have much sand substrate, just less than a half inch gravel, and some salt water salt gets put in during water changes or stressful events.

I think my crab layed eggs. Is there some way I can message you a picture to confirm?

As far as babies surviving, Fiddlers in the wild go out to sea to release their egg pouch (incubation is 14 days before eggs are ready). They need the salinity and the tide movement of the ocean to survive (from what I have read). It is impossible to simulate this in a home aquarium :(. It is fun while it lasts though as I am sure you have found too! Anyway, I hope that helps- Sorry for all the emails, but I wanted you to get the full scoop! ...as dechlorinator. Keeping them in this environment is the longest we have had the crabs (9 months). They will not last in freshwater as is weakens them and they need to be able to get upon something to be out of the water for a while (unlike how they sell em at Walmart where we bought them)! Don't clean the tank with anything but water and elbow grease. I used bleach on something they climbed up on in a previous tank and even though I rinsed really well- it killed all the crabs we had :(

Fiddlers like their temp 80-85 degrees for best breeding. We had a cold spell here and it knocked off the smaller crab (had 3 of them) so we got a thermometer to keep the tank at 80 degrees and the 2 have been perfectly happy. We feed them the freeze dried shrimp from the pet store. They also like algae and their own molts (gross to watch them eat but full of calcium)! We keep something for them to climb on to get air and bask in the sun and put a pinch of non-iodized salt in the water as well

Hi! Love the names for your crabs! You know all I know about them is from what I have read by doing a Google search. Apparently it is very hard to raise them in captivity. Several have tried with no success. One person even made a separate nursery aquarium for the babies with a higher salinity like the ocean and they did not make it past the day 5 molt. Our crabs did another mate/hatch right after this one with the same result. The babies were all dead by the next AM.

I have some questions for you. I too own a female and male Fiddler. Bonnie had eggs and apparently she realesed them but now I dont see anything.. Clyde Has been doing his mating dance for the last 2 days. Do you know a lot about these crabs and do you have any pointers on breeding?? Wtaer? temp? food? light? thank you for your time..
