Expat Adventures in Latin America -\u003e Tune in to get an honest insight into a Latin-Nomad Lifestyle!
Hey there, I’m Paul, a 40-year-old nomad who’s been exploring the world, living across 4 continents, and visiting 60 countries. Something always felt off about the way things were headed, so I left the expected path behind to search for better options. I always thought I’d return to the US one day, but when I watch the system slowly crumble, I realize that that time hasn’t come yet.
In my search for a better way, I got my Paraguayan residency in 2021. Now, I’m discovering Latin America with my reliable LandCruiser Prado from Paraguay and the freedom-loving journalist Alexandra Allover.
Together, we’re exploring new possibilities and finding people we can connect with. If you’re looking for a way out, a plan B, this channel’s for you.
Whether it’s a backup residency in Paraguay, Brazil, or Mexico, or just getting a taste of expat life, I’ve got plenty of videos to guide you.

Hi I am an expat and am very passionate about my Surf's :-). I have one here - 1996 SSRG 3.0TD GEN3 (intercooler/turbo) and another in UK kitted out for van life. Neither over 200k kms. However, due to their age (even though still more robust and reliable than most trucks), I will need to find one in Paraguay. Loved the pics of them on your video but they did look so messed with. There were some left hand drives manufactured. Are they still hard to find? Is it still possible to find a good factory made lhdrive Surf in Paraguay? I will keep in contact as will defo appreciate your assistance next year on my pre-emigrating visit. Many thanks for your superb insights and helpful sites. x
@@lizashley8169 Thank you for your good words and insight. the Surf is an interesting Toyota model, now they came up with all kinds of names for the same model in different countries. Paraguay is very unique in allowing steering wheel conversions. Though they now do have decades of experiences with it and when done right, there is nothing to worry about. Our car is now with us for more than 65k km and the steering wheel conversions was never a problem. That being said, it is also possible to get non converted trucks like that in Paraguay. For example the official Toyota distributor only sells non converted cars, imported from the US. Though these cars usually have a slightly higher price tag. I am actually working on two more videos on cars in Paraguay. A Car travel guide for paraguay and an in depth look into our car. So stay tuned for that. Maybe it offers some more insight for your life in Paraguay. Feel free to reach out to me with the link in the description and we can talk some more about your residency and car purchase.
@@HaveYourADVENTURE Thanks for your answer, though I think it may have got cropped lol. I like to have my dogs with me in the car, and this model allows it. Rather than have no contact if the cab is separate from the rear. Also full size allows plenty of room for me to sleep inside, which as I prefer the reliablity of Toyota, I don't think any other of their models offer the same?
@@lizashley8169 not sure what you mean with getting cropped? I can see the full length of your comments and i assume you can see mine, at least i can see it on the youtube app. We have the Toyota LandCruiser Prado. It is a very similar model to the Toyota Hilux Surf. The biggest difference is the Prado has a bit better build quality and permanent 4 wheel drive. You can still activate differential locks and low gear if needed. The Hilux Surf is 2 wheel drive and can be switched to 4 wheel drive. The inside offers similar amounts of space. The Prado has a second row of seats for a 6th or 7th person but you can retract them or remove them. We sleep inside the car sometimes, the two of us. We fit an air mattress, not perfect, because im pretty tall but doable. Im working on two videos about traveling by car in Paraguay and our Toyota Prado.
@@HaveYourADVENTURE Absolutely. I will defo stay in touch. But also keep up to date with your posts meantime. Hope to be out early next year to process all legal things and will also give the car specs. Keep up the wonderful info and vids. Sounds like your suggestion of the USA imports more appealing to me x

Had a glock 19 gen 4 that i bought in Paraguay. Which cost me about $2,400 total with 2 cases of good american bullets. That was in 2021. The following year got me a glock 17 gen 5 That was about $2600 equipped the same both has a red laser adaptors and another case of bulllets. @@waltergutierrez7837 hey thanks for sharing the prices. It’s good to know what to expect. Unfortunately the current import ban has not helped. I am sure for a while things will stay expensive. As with many things in Paraguayan politics though, things tend to calm down after a while and new ways will be found. So let’s hope for that.
Nice Paul I like the way you walked off at the end of the video. You have a good personality. And my preference is definitely the countryside. I’ve lived enough of my life in urban areas. Hands down at this point of my life it’s going to be nature and quietness. My wife’s family home is about 10-15 minutes from Lago Ypacarai by car. That’s where we spend most of our time. Sanber, Aregua, Itaugua and Ypacarai. I love PY and my family (3 sisters)and the only ones I have left are always asking why I keep going down to PY. They think I’m crazy lol. I love the people and the simple life down there. Hey it’s not perfect but no place is. They don’t know to much about PY but you know what they say about those damn Americans lol. Only kidding they are cool Take care. Joe C.
Paul wanted to say those towns I mentioned could be considered urban areas like I’m sure you know but my wife’s family home is in a perfect location but just a short drive by car to town Maybe 7 or 8 minutes but very countryside to me. Giant mango trees all over the place
@@joececere4918 THank you so much for your comment. It’s great to hear from you. We love the area around the Ypacarai lake. It’s a perfect mix between countryside and connection to the city. Hey Paul great job on this video. I’ve been to PY many times. I don’t claim to be an expert but I do know PY well. I’ve been going there many times for over 30 years. My connection is being married to a beautiful Paraguaya for over 35 years who came to NY as a young girl where we met almost 38 years ago. I’m a native NYer. But she tries to tell me she was a young woman lol. Now retired but not really that old (I’m 62) I’m on TH-cam a lot and whenever I see anything Payaguay I watch and subscribe but your channel is definitely good and well done. I’m pretty sure I’m subscribed to your partner’s channel too. We have been to Paraguay for the last five years in a row and usually stay 1 to 2 months but we are waiting for my wife to finish up her career so we’d be down there much longer or maybe permanently. It might be 2-3 years but I’m looking into a retirement visa. Sorry for the long story and I usually don’t write that much but I’m always interested in anything PY. Keep up the good work I’ll be watching
@@joececere4918 thank you so much for your good words and for sharing your story. It’s great to get different perspectives on life in Paraguay. @HaveYourADVENTURE im reffering to the paraguayan Gouvernement not allowing suppresors and any good caliber carbines
@ ah yea. That is an unfortunate worldwide dilemma. They know they are doing a bad job and they are all afraid of being overthrown by strong men with strong guns. @@HaveYourADVENTURE if you are reffering to the black market, i maybe know somebody who could know somebody that could get you an m4 and all that fun stuff, in call of duty ofc
@@KRAT0S_son_of_zeus all is possible in Paraguay, it is just a question of money and connections. The good thing about Paraguay though is that also the regular laws regarding the Guns is fairly liberal and one can be well protected legally. I appreciate that aspect.
How to settle in Paraguay
I recommend watching my video on Paraguay Residency. It’s not super easy to get Paraguay residency for everyone but it is still one of the easiest countries to get residency in the whole world.
The border between Brazil and Paraguay is not safe AT ALL.
@@nickaoke thank you for sharing. Yea with so many things, it depends on where you are along that border. There are some places, especially border towns further north, that are not very recommended. Sure some places in Ciudad del Este are not so nice either but CdE also has very beautiful neighborhoods and you can have a great life there. Also a bit further north in Hernandarias, you can live in an Eco Oasis. We spent a month there and had a wonderfully relaxing time. I mentioned it in my video about the luxury Paraguay city Life.
Nice Vid. for those, who want to make holiday. Bienvenidos! 🎉
@@Fraud-in-Paraiso_Paraguay thank you for having you here. Paraguay does attract all kinds of people. Though it is still less known for it’s tourism. But people love to move to Paraguay these days. A fair amount to the cities and the majority to the countryside. Where in Paraguay do you call your home?
