Savannah National Wildlife Refuge July 2024

The signs say not to approach the bears, but they don't tell the bears not to approach people, and I was fortunate enough to have one do that on April Fools Day 2024 (my car provided a nice buffer between the bear and I). I went shad fishing recently on the Rappahanock River in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Typically I find the shad closer to the middle of the river and use a jig and spoon combination to reach them. I've not had my usual luck on Fairfax County's Accotink Creek this year, but managed to get off the skunk this week. I didn't find a lot of trout, but getting any two weeks after a stocking is decent in my experience (it is a Delayed Harvest stream but those regs aren't always well followed). 2024 has been a bit of a challenge, fishing wise, but I did manage to get out to a decent number of stocked trout streams this month. Two Bucks Fighting in the Backyard - January 2024

We've seen a lot of wildlife in our yard, so asked for, and received a new toy for Christmas. It seems like most of the action occurs at night, based upon the first two weeks of filming. Was lucky enough to capture two bucks having a tussle one night. It seemed the big one was only working with 3 good legs, otherwise, I think it would have been a much quicker fight.

I tried a little surf fishing the first weekend of December. The weather was mostly very pleasant and, though I didn't catch any trophies it was nice to be able to catch some fish this late in the year. It never hurts to try your luck. Enjoy whatever holiday you celebrate as we close out the year!

Savannah looks great for nature sightings 🌿 These are unique looking birds I dont see in my area 🐦 All black with red beaks. Nice shot of a dragonfly. They never stay still for my camera 🤣 You caught the real stars, the Alligators! Great shots, Shore Fisherman❗️

Anyone know of a motor boat friendly lake with good trout fishing in VA with ability to rent a cabin?
@jbiggar71, unfortunately large trout lakes are pretty rare in Virginia. Lake Moomaw definitely has the type of fishing you're looking for and for sure has campgrounds, but I'm not clear if the few cabins that showed up on a Google search are on the lake or "lake adjacent". I don't recall seeing lakefront cabins when I was last there, but will admit it's been more than a few years. I wish you the best of luck and thank you for watching!
