Easy, but bit longer, walk in Tongariro National Park. Mostly in the open, make sure you wear proper sun protection in summer months. Ends at Waihohonu Hut, but you can continue towards Historic Waihohonu Hut.
2:21 - crossing Ohinepango Stream
6:19 - Waihohonu Hut
10:33 - Historic Waihohonu Hut

Loop track in central North Island. Despite being located near Tongariro National Park crowds are extremely unlikely. Do not expect grand views either, this is easy, basic bushwalk. Enjoy. Nice and easy bushwalk in Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park. No difficult sections or unbridged streams. This is the most water I've ever seen there. Most of the time it is either bit boggy or dry. Plenty of other walks in the area: Waiatiu Falls Track: th-cam.com/video/ydPnfWJGrMI/w-d-xo.html (so far just one other published, I'll be adding more) More info on DOC site: www.doc.govt.nz/...

Bushwalk (mostly) following Stony River. First you will follow Puniho Track, then Stony River track. Relatively easy to follow. Number of stream crossings along the way, not an issue but you will get your feet wet. Stony River right below the falls was bit deeper, well above knees. You mileage might wary depending on weather. There are plenty of big boulders in Stony River bed so be careful in ...

One of many bushwalks in Boundary Stream area. If you don't feel like doing entire walk you can do short loop track right by the road. Return walk to lookout point should take up to 3 hours. Rather easy and well formed, very few steeper sections. You are unlikely to see more people here. Have a look at DOC site for many more walks in that area: www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/...

Regular, basic bushwalk. No great views but I really enjoyed last part going along Waipare stream. I was able to hop across without getting my feet wet. More info on DOC site: www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/east-coast/places/anaura-bay-area/things-to-do/anaura-bay-walkway/

Short, easy walk in Catlins area. Located in far south, not far from southernmost point at Slope Point. Lighthouse works however there's only small LED beacon on the outside. On some days you might come across seals at the beach and near the lighthouse. Be careful as sometimes that sleep in the tall grass. Short bushwalk to Waiatiu Falls. From my experience waterfall has reasonable amount of water all year round. There's small platform and bench at the very end. Track is well formed and easy to follow. Make sure you check other bushwalks in the area. Located in Tararua District, near Pongaroa. Waterfall is located on private land, make sure you have landowners permission. You are very likely to encounter cattle. On a rainy day there can be plenty of deep mud and parts of the track can be slippery. This is working farm. Amount of water depends a lot on recent weather and rain falls. In summer there can be almost no water. It is best to check...

Amazing and very long walk along West Matukituki River Branch. Rather easy and flat most of the way, gets steeper once you cross the river near French Ridge. Some people choose to do easy, flat parts on bicycles. In summer you should be able to go all the way with dry feet. Isn’t there a high chance of getting lost when you are out in the open and the path is completely covered in snow?

    • @silenttramping
      @silenttramping 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not in this area. At first, in the open flats, I just waked towards the campsite in the distance. Later on you just go towards Mount Cook. In the valley path goes through vegetation or on a boardwalk, even in deep snow you'd know immediately if you are off the path :)

    Beautiful. Still a bit of snow around I see. Nice n quiet. We are thinking of doing the summit in a week or so. We'll see what the weather does. Last tramp was in the Tararua's. 4 days and quite steep. I've been up Egmont loads of times. I guess Kaweka J is not harder than that. Might even stay up in a hut? We usually carry a compact two person tent just incase. Thanks for the vid.

    Thanks so much for uploading this, it gives a great feel for the reality of the tramp - and very useful to have it walked in this direction, as most TH-cam videos are from the other direction. Can you recall how the actual tramping times lined up with the times indicated on the signs? I.e., Kaiauai Carpark to Kaiauai Shelter; Kaiauai Shelter to Mt Henry Peak; Mt Henry Peak to Pouakai Tarns; Pouakai Tarns to Pouakai Hut? I'm not expecting you to remember all these, but any that you can would be very helpful!
