The 'Three Treasons' Concerto for Violin, Strings and Continuo
มุมมอง 14311 หลายเดือนก่อน
Combining 'classic' baroque elements, compositional methods and instrumentation with jazz and 'media/epic music' language, this brief concerto in three movements provides a look at the masters through the lens of a 'Bridgerton' age. An East Anglia Sojourn (for Horn and Bassoon) - 2. Norwich
มุมมอง 3111 หลายเดือนก่อน
Making use of the chime pattern of its Cathedral, this movement captures some of the urban hustle and bustle of the city of Norwich, with the occasional moment spent taking in the beauty it has to offer. An East Anglia Sojourn (for Horn and Bassoon) - 1. Southwold
มุมมอง 7411 หลายเดือนก่อน
Inspired by the excellent duos of Alec Wilder, these two movements exploit the unique, warm and syrupy tone colors of the Horn and Bassoon in a few scenes depicting idyllic locations in East Anglia. The first movement explores fun at the beach at Southwold and at the pier - relaxed and leisurely, but with the inherent risks of sunburn and sandy shoes. Rendered courtesy of Noteperformer 3. The Cypresses (for String Quartet)

A jaunty, quirky fugue for String Quartet, inspired by the adventurous imitative writing of Italian composers of the mid-20th century, especially Casella and Castelnuovo-Tedesco, and the American film composers for whom those Italian contrapuntalists were a core influence. Three Meditations on a Riff (for Wind Trio) - 1. Improvocations

Wow, what an energetic and exciting Scherzo! Fascinating! That has Mahler- or Shostakovitch-like qualities with its very diabolic and haunted character in the A-section.

This is a real masterpiece! So consequential how you lay out and develop the material. And so masterly and colorfully orchestrated! Kudos!

I especially like the fugal part. It's very unique. The permanent changing between arco and pizzicato in some of the string sections creates a very delicate effect.

Sorry for the miscounting in the end... Did you have only one read-through session with the instruments?

It's very nice, how the flute and oboe are "overtaking" each other constantly as the highest line in the setting.

What a evocative piece! Already the unique opening draws me immediately into the music and makes me wanna hear how it might continue and develop. I'm very sympathetic to your musical language! It's both successable and interestingly strange with a lot of very specific and characteristic instances not every composer comes up with.

I wouldn't call the approach you had for these miniatures 'formal'. I would call it consequential and with a good abilty to dig deep and squeeze evreything out of the material. I wish you more subscribers and commentators for your excellent music!

Very good contrapuntal writing, very idiomatic for the woodwind instruments. What a nice, calm and slightly melancholy mood. And I congratulate you for the good and sincere performance of the piece!

That's very intricate and subtle how the fanfare rhythms are layered to make the accents unpredictable. I love the consequence of your harmonic language, in the A section with quartal and quintal and all sorts of sus-chords. The B-section, more thoughtful, seeks more of minor second dissonances and thus show a different character, more introverted and melncholy than the outgoing A section. Keep it going!

  • @FranzKaernBiederstedt
    @FranzKaernBiederstedt 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

One thing, though: Perhaps it would be benefitial if in one or two instances you could break out from the regularity of the changes in the repeated eight notes. When there were moments where you're changing chords not every 4 or eight 8 eights, but for example after 6 or 10. Just a little moment of irregularity where the listeners stumble across and come to thinking what that was... I think that would make the piece even more interesting.

Very beautiful composition, congratulations! It's so light hearted and uplifting. But what impresses me the most is how you manage to make a lot out of very restricted material and how you create a distinct character that is in the same time simple and yet rich and showing your own personality. I like that a lot!

Hey, adding to your self characterization concerning the doses of Gried and Horner and the moody Scandinavian look, I'd say it's a very American, Copland-like tone language with the open harmonies and the barn-dance-like ostinato, very attractive and appealing and making appetite for a more extended elaboration and contextualization. It has the potential to be a part in a full string quartet and to develop into a longer form. Good job!
