I did ride her again this morning, 2nd time. She did so much better at backing & placing her hoof where I asked her too. Life is good :)

Expectations with Honey

I made this video for the owners because she was supposed to go home after one week. But they opted to have her stay 2 more weeks :) She also has problems approaching her ears from the front as well. So now I'm teaching her to seek out (X) which she really has problems with. More videos to come.

before you start6 trimming here, look at the sole on the outside of each bar, my question is this, this is the exact areas my mare gets stones caught in her sole. When I pull them out during hoof care, there are divets/holes where the stones were and I can actually scoop out that chalky and stinky arabian unexfoliated sole. Is this normal or should I be treating these holes when they happen with something? Her right front seems to get thrush all the time regardless of hoof care or dry environment. This is also the hoof I am seeing these stone holes in., Is there a product I can put on her hooves both sole and hoof wall that is ok to put on if there is thrush and even when there is not? I don't want to seal any bacteria in but I feel like her soles need some hardening here if little rocks are creating holes. Lastly, I am cleaning her feet regularily with chlorhexadine wash as a preventative

I've got a mate with damage of thrush can sing her front two frogs be really floppy but they are also shedding. I would love to just trim them off and treat her hooves but I'm afraid that the surface underneath will be too thin. I would pay to have you take a look!

Good Video and I'm watching it on 27*12*23. Do you think Lane the Thoroughbred also wears his feet down quicker than the others? Just a thought, as Thoroughbreds tend not to have such great feet, with the odd exception.

Trimming in the desert is no joke! I've been so baffled at watching how easily people can trim their horses with crappy tools in the humid states in the east. One lady, who isn't really in shape was clipping and using a knife with like one hand. Another video had a young teen girl, and she didn't strain much. So I thought to myself, hah.. trimming doesn't look that hard! WRONG. I picked up a pair of nippers and rasp. I have very small hands, and I live in southern idaho (I think fairly close to where this guy lives), where it's pretty bone dry in the summer. My horse's hooves are hard like granite. I couldn't even make a cut. And the hoof knife literally bounced off the sole. My dad also struggled. It doesn't help that I'm a small handed 5'2 female that is no more than 102 lbs. I have literally no choice, but to use electric grinders. Thankfully, I'm able to rasp pretty decently. I have been getting by with the Hoof Boss. It really can cut, but my horse dislikes the flying chips. And they hit me in the face, causing both of us to flinch. Kinda scary, so I do slower and more gentler work with the red disk. I'm going to try using a battery metabo angle grinder. From what I've seen, angle grinders throw more fine slivers and dust, rather than chips. I'm sure my mare would probably appreciate it more. And I've seen several farriers use them professionally. Plus it'll be nice to have a cordless option. Finding a place to plug in and set up limits where I can put my horse.

  • @HerbMoore3

If your horse ever had a bad case of deep sulcus thrush, you will know the absolute importance of keeping the frog properly trimmed and minimize the opportunity for thrush to develop in the deep hidden pockets of an unkempt ratty frog. The front feet are most prone, for some reason. This man knows what he's talking about. 💥💯

I think 6 weeks is way too long for this horse. I'd probably bring him to 3 weeks and then 4 when the feet get their shape back. I can't really judge the other farrier's work because this hoof is so overgrown though

Hello, I have a 29 yr old mare (onny girl)) she has had this problem on and off for about 15 yrs, about 2 years ago she was really bad and I got a equine centre to come and they did X-rays and said she was buggered and booked her in to be put to sleep a few days later, I couldn't do it ,I completely changed all the horses feed and now I have to yell at her for chasing the dog around the paddock, but puts a smile on my face every time

Well have the guy come and teach him the right way, if he's got any pride in his work he will be willing to learn if not then you wont use him anymore. But he's got to eat and the horses need proper care. Just swallow your pride and take some advice from somone with more knowledge then yourself.
