The only boss I currently solo is Cave Troll. I'm learning Ghost King now, and Cyclops is also doable (probably want arcane shield for rock fall). I plan to do a Cave Troll guide soon (I use crystal sword, other wiz creators all use staff), and eventually a Ghost King guide once I'm comfortable enough.

@@winkerwatty1047 For base gear you aren’t going to be able to get away with using the Spell Overload perk, since it requires a lot of memory capacity to run. There are a few ways you can play low gear wizard: bonk (build PDR and strength, run ignite spell and arcane shield skill), 10-spell (build as much knowledge as you can), or intense focus (also build knowledge but also some magic power). I will likely do a base gear wizard PvP video in the future and can flesh out these options more fully.

@@Derhs_ tragically the addition of Ice Abyss cuts the game timer for the upper level Ice Caverns in half, so it’s much harder to obtain significant AP. Ice Abyss is much more difficult than Inferno (in my opinion), so I would recommend just going for Crypts/Inferno and following the same overall strategies from this guide and my GC AP guide. Another thing to note is that mob AP was increased significantly, so Nightmare mobs are a main component of the overall AP gained. I plan to make an Inferno guide sometime this wipe, but sadly it probably won’t be for at least a month.

@@mikhi7866 Yeah you definitely need to build more magic power bonus than last season. Also, Ice Cavern isn’t as lucrative as before since the game timer is cut in half and the other half is in Ice Abyss, which I haven’t made a solo wiz tutorial on yet (I have one planned). 100% best bet is doing crypts/inferno and just avoid other players as much as possible. Mob AP was increased significantly this season, and so was Nightmare mob amounts, so I was hitting 2000-2500 AP per run before entry fees, and that was even before item AP was added back. I didn’t plan to do an updated AP guide this season because I want to do some more PvP-focused videos, but I might record and upload a VOD of an inferno run with some basic commentary if there is demand for it.

@@VitStiber Staff has a higher magical damage stat than the spellbook and crystal ball, but a slower base cast speed and slower movespeed. So basically, if speed is not important, casting with the staff is super strong. However, in most PvP, speed is incredibly important, hence why I always use the spellbook. Ignite just adds 5 additional magical damage (100% scaling) to melee hits and applies a burn as well. Since the staff has the highest magical damage stat among the casting weapons, I’m pretty sure it is the strongest choice for casting ignite since it will add the most base damage to the spell. For example, a blue staff that does 7 Magical Damage will turn Ignite’s base damage up to 12 before other modifiers (MPB, hitbox, MDR, true/additional).

@@syterious8726 Yeah, I briefly mentioned potentially throwing a fireball at the ground to splash him but since I knew he didn’t have blow of corruption and I already had a huge health advantage and he was panicking, I decided to just take my time and not risk hitting myself with the splash damage as well. When I run Lightning Strike I’m always looking to do this though!

@@rob3831 For Trios, assuming you have a frontline tank to protect you, movespeed for escaping won’t be as big of a necessity, and you also probably won’t be using magic missiles very often, so building your Magic Power Bonus will be very effective. For perks for Trios, I would suggest Sage (increased knowledge), Fire Mastery (helps reduce the effectiveness of Magical Healing from enemy Clerics), Quick Chant (faster cast speed), and then Mana Surge (higher Magic Power Bonus). Your perk options are a little more wide open in Trios because you have your teammates to protect you. For Trios you are definitely gonna want 10-spell. You’ll want Haste, Ignite, and Invis for buffing yourself and your teammates. Chain Lightning is an obvious pick because it can damage the whole enemy team at once. Lightning Strike is a strong damage spell that you can cast on the enemy, past your teammates, so you don’t risk friendly fire as much as with projectile spells. On the other hand, projectile spells allow you to be at a safe distance from the enemies as you throw the spells. It all depends on your playstyle and how you coordinate attacks with your team. Every spell has its use-case, but the only spell I probably wouldn’t go for in Trios is Explosion because sticking a bomb to the enemy doesn’t let your melee teammates be close to them.

@@Sl33pySage I tried to make 10-spell work earlier this wipe but ever since movespeed penalties were decreased on all armor and clothes, it’s become exceedingly hard to keep distance. Decent players will just take cover behind a pillar or wall and force you to come close to try to get a spell off on them, and then they run you down and you can rarely escape. High-movespeed Barbarians have been getting particularly good at this. By far, the most successful solo Wizard setup I’ve found this wipe has been Intense Focus 5-spell with Spell Overload. Being able to instantly smack someone across the face with a fireball when they try that “hide behind cover and then sprint out” tactic is highly effective. I plan to discuss my current spells and perks in the future video where I build and use a kit, but for now I am running Sage, Arcane Mastery, Quick Chant, and Spell Overload and then for spells it’s Fireball , Invis, Zap, MM, and then a Free Space that I swap out here and there. I was running Slow for a while, but it’s gotten more difficult to consistently land it on the fly since everyone is moving so fast, so I have opted for Lightning Strike instead since it works well for splashing around corners, ignores shields, and has a slowing effect. If your aim is cracked af and you’re confident in being able to always land your Slow, it can definitely be worth running but personally, relying on it instead of a damage spell or invis-juking has gotten me killed more times than it has saved me this wipe.

@@Freaktacular Yes the scaling modifier affects True/Additional the same way it does Magic Power Bonus. I didn’t include it in the comparison calculations because it is the same for both of them.

@@user-fd1ft3yk8c The only relevant cap I know of is movespeed at 330 (110%). There is very little chance of us ever hitting that though, so I don’t worry about it.

Unironically a really good strat. If im really low health because i finished a fight or being chased by mobs and encounter another player i just throw my hands up and 80% of the time people either help you or leave you alone. Just dont backstab them if they spare you tho.

So as far as the Merchants go, you have to complete their quests to begin to unlock higher rarity gear to purchase from them. Quests come out in batches once a week, to prevent no-lifers from doing them all day 1 and having access to the best gear while players with less time wouldn’t be able to. It also gives us something to look forward to each week. For the most part, completing 1 full set of quests (usually 3 quests in a set) for a merchant will unlock the next rarity worth of items to buy. The merchants that you are going to be using the most are Alchemist (spellbook, Magic staff), Tailor (robes, some pants), and Leathersmith (some pants, boots). Prioritize their quests first will give you the best value for your time. The main things you miss out on as a F2P player is High Roller and the Marketplace. High Roller has consistently better loot than Normals does, and is where the most geared players play, so it has the highest level PvP. High Roller also has the AP system, which functions most similarly to a battlepass, so you have the ability to unlock exclusive cosmetics and get some starter loot (meds and gold and a gold coin bag) to give you a head start in the next wipe. The other big thing F2P doesn’t have access to is the marketplace. The marketplace allows you to quickly a la carte assemble a kit to your liking, and also allows you to passively earn gold since you can post items on the marketplace and other players can buy them while you’re offline or in a dungeon. The main effect of the marketplace on the game is that is caused most HR players to always have a well-tailored full meta kit on. Once you begin to take PvP in the game seriously, access to the marketplace is critical of your don’t want to be at a disadvantage against others. I personally think the marketplace is unhealthy for the game, but if it’s available to other players, you have to use it to not get constantly meta-slapped.

One secret that most wizards don't know is that your spells don't shoot immediately when you release your mouse button. The spell shoots at the end of the hand animation, so you have to aim your cursor up until it actually leaves your hand. Increasing your action speed (usually through dexterity) makes this animation faster, which makes it easier to aim, and significantly increases your odds in a jiggle-peek battle.

Both are technically viable. For beginners, spell overload probably would be best because you only have to juggle half as many different spells, and you will be fine in most situations with Fireball, Zap, Invisibility, Magic Missile, and Haste or Slow. I’ve been liking 10-spell for PvP the most lately because it gives you the opportunity to deal with nearly every situation. Landmine Rogue? Light orb in suspicious areas. Sprinting Fighters and Rage Barbarians? Slow stops them in their tracks. Survival Bow Ranger? Haste allows you to keep up with them in jiggle peek battles. A player is really skilled with their shield? Lightning Strike. A player is running away from you through some mobs? Chain Lightning the mob. If you die with 10-spell, there is almost ALWAYS a way you could have played it that resulted in you not dying. With 5-spell, you might not have a necessary spell for every situation and more deaths will be unavoidable, and more enemies will escape you. To put it simply, 10-spell has a higher skill ceiling potential, and I play Wizard for the high skill ceiling to start with, so it makes the most sense to go all in. If you watch my other videos you’ll notice that I run Spell Overload sometimes, but that is only when I am grinding mob-kill AP or there was a gearscore limit and I needed to repeatedly use Magic Missile to clear mobs. For just PvP, 10-spell is ultimately the best. Edit: Just wanted to update this comment since the meta has shifted a bit. Ever since movespeed penalties on gear was heavily reduced, it’s been increasingly harder to maintain distance from enemies (especially landmines) so I have found Intense Focus to actually be more successful in solos lately since it allows you to instantly fireball-headshot someone if they are trying to jump on you.

Solo wizard is “good” in PvP once you have decent gear, mainly due to slow cast speeds without Knowledge gear. You can somewhat make up for it with the Intense Focus skill, but since it takes several spells to kill a player it only gets you so far. However, once you do get some decent gear and develop your skills, you unlock the ability to diff just about any player you come across. Solo wizard is definitely a “road less traveled” because of the investment it takes to master it, but once you do, you become an unstoppable force that will cause every player you kill to exclaim “what am I supposed to do???”
