Fishing for Brown and Rainbow Trout ||A shorter version of my Tie and Catch Ep 2. No fly tying
That’s a lowlands copperhead
Yes, thanks i realise I am wrong.
Cool carp fly bit of a crossover crustacean/muscle looking. The carp you caught is a decent size. I live in Queensland but I did live in Victoria until I was nineteen. My Grandfather use to have a farm up past Swan Hill. I remember catching carp in the Murray River when I was going after Cod. But that was on spin gear. I didn’t get into fly fishing until my early forties. I’d love to catch Carp up in Brisbane like that on fly. We do have a lot of Tilapia in our creeks & stuff though. Cool video thanks for making & sharing. I do mostly Saltwater fly fishing but haven’t fished for sometime due to setbacks. But I keep my fly tying up & will have a go at tying your Carp fly. Thanks for the video really enjoyed it so subscribed.🧑🌾👍🎣🐟
awesome video.where are the best acess points and will u need 4wd to get there?
The river is accessible by 2wd in the lower reaches access is abundant along the King Valley rd but it's definitely a 4x4 river in the upper reaches. I
@@rednutflyfishing8795 you mean kiewa valley rd?
Great video mate, I really enjoyed this. It's great to see a few trout in the King. I remember fishing that area in the 80s and 90s. It was a premier trout fishery back then. Amazing memories. The cormorants have been a big problem this season and trout have been much harder than normal to find.
Glad you enjoyed it Robbie, yeah it's amazing how hard I'm having to work for fish this year. We have had some Cracker years leading up to now. I'm hoping a few more fish stick their head out and play soon.
Great to see how quickly you released the trout, unlike some fishos bloody shits me. Like u attitude, good camping n fishing mate
The cormorants have been a big issue here in western Victoria this season too. They breed up during wet years like the last 3 we’ve had, and then the pressure really becomes concentrated once water levels drop as they have this year. I’ve fished rivers where you’ll see over 100 fish a trip drop right back to half a dozen.
Its frustrating but I guess its unavoidable. I have heard the cormorants have learnt to follow the Vic fisheries stocking vehicles. I'm assuming this helps their population also.
Great video! I’ve been hearing about the cormorants doing a number on the Delatite and Howqua as well. Not sure why they’re such a problem all of a sudden. Cheers!
Yeah I'm not entirely convinved that it was all the cormorants, perhaps early season too.
Looking forward to another season and more videos
Nice fish!
Thanks!
great video mate. keep up the great work. thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great to see you back on the water and catching those browns again mate, although very worrying about the cormorants destroying stocks.
Thanks mate, yeah it's a bit annoying but I think it will recover.
Yesss! Alpha fish strikes again! 🐠
No jizz fish this time.
An excellent video mate - I enjoyed it very much and look forward to future ones. My son was also a paratrooper with the army but for the life of me I cannot get him interested in fly fishing
Thanks mate appreciate it. It's not everyones cup of tea I struggle to get my son to care about fishing. What years did your son serve?
Your damsel looks like a magoo
It pretty much is. Just a little easier to tie.
Hey mate, great video, keep them coming
Thanks, will do!
I’m surprised people advertise the lerdy on TH-cam Use to be a great trout spot. Growing up around there was good. Wished it was stocked
Are you eating them?
No, I give them to my Thai hairdresser and my Filipino mates.
Great video mate! Just wondering what weight and length rod you’re using there? I’ve got my eye on 3wt 6’6” little bush rod that would be great for tight waters like this.
I'm using a 5 wt. Overkill to an extent but good for long casts to spooky fish. 3wt would be just fine.
Great brine.
Forest Gump method." simple is as simple does'' 👍
I tied this up had a good day out thanks for sharing tight lines 🏴👍
The Bead is upside down
😮❤❤❤
With a 10’ 3# rod are you using specialist nymph fly line and leader?
I have a euro line but I actually prefer to use straight low memory mono nowadays. I find having no knots in the guides helps.
Great video, I’ve only started exploring the lower rubi. Hit a dead end at Christies road with access. Is the access from yellow box easy or no trespassing signs?
Yeah that's where we got to as well. To be honest I wouldn't fish it again. There are just better spots to fish on the Rubi.
How fantastic to see so many young fish in that river system and an awesome job winkling them out, Red Nut. I can't wait to get a free day and head out. Great to see you back on TH-cam too mate.
Just wondering if you’d share where I can get some of the blood worm nymphs that you showed at the beginning of the vid?
Hi Geoff l, I tie my own. I'm not sure if they're available from the shops. I tie them out of size 16-14 and 12 jig hooks. I use a 3 - to 4mm bead. It's essentially red thread and a medium gold wire rib coated in uv resin. It's really simple to tie. I don't tie commercially, unfortunately.
What hook is that tied on?
Size 12 firehole 618
That's super cool. Would love to see more of this. Wheres the spot I'd love to give it a crack.
All Victorian reservoirs hold carp. Try Kyneton, Malmsbury, or Upper Coliban. Stick to the shallows grassy areas. There's a full Video on my Channel.
Carp on a fly rod Nice
Thanks mate. They're epic fun.
Yes please for carp fly tutorial
I'll get onto it.
Great vid mate good to see plenty of fish in there
Thanks mate. It's a healthy little river. Be good once it settles down after all the rain.
Is it the coliban river by any chance
Love carp!
They're lots of fun.
Great spot down there. Very nice river but can be a frustrating one to fish but the browns are beautiful
I have days there that I'm tearing out my hair in frustration 😆. The colours on the fish are spectacular.
was it a DT5 or WF5 loine you used
WF5. Scientific Angler.
Beat foam on the market 😉
Absolutely 💯
I'm curious. Why did you go with two line weights heavier than the rod weight? Thanks
Thanks for the question. I thought it would be better as the 3wt Euro rod has a stiffer butt section than a normal 3wt. I don't know if it's necessary, but it worked really well.
@@rednutflyfishing8795 thanks for the reply. The reason I asked is because I've been thinking of doing the same thing, I just assumed that a 3wt line on a 3wt rod would be best, but then I never considered the stiffer butt section. Thanks again.
Great video mate. Where abouts do i start on the lerderderg river
Thanks, mate. Any access point you can get to within the Wombat state forest around Blackwood is good.
Super
Great video mate! Heading to Blackwood camping this week and hoping for a couple fish. Never been but this vid was perfect to see what the river is like. Cheers
Enjoy. Merry Christmas. The waters up at the moment because of rain but it should settle soon.
Great video, liked and subscribed. Thanks for giving a description of the location. Im looking to teach my young boys fly fishing in the next few years so it’s great to know such a productive place exists which is easy for them to learn and keep their interest. Also great outro letting us know who you are. Hope your back surgery went well. The injuries seem to keep coming after 40. Cheers!
All good, thanks for the sub. Hope the young boys get into it and love it as much as I do. Another good family location is Glenlyon Dam. Back doing a lot better. I'm edging closer to 40 and definitely get it 😆
I reckon I’ll give it a go on my euro rod. Cheers 🎣🙏
Love the stimi nymph combo can not beat it
It's gotta be the best dry dropper rig.
Goodmorning to you nice video
Good morning
Keep them coming 🎣 . Love to go fly fishing with you some time !!
More on the way, mate. Working on one as we speak. Thanks for watching.
Maybe sometime after Christmas we could get out for a fish.
Great work, keep it going dude.
Thanks very much
I mean they eat globs of powerbait so why wouldn't they eat that too.
I usually use those for egg patterns, chartreuse and pink with a small split shot. 12 inches away from the fly I drift it usually catch four my body creek don’t really hold that many fish.
What are your thoughts on using crank baits for strike indicators instead?
😆 Never heard of anyone doing that. Use whatever works in my opinion.
Fly casting catch the wind but if u can use a grasshopper as indicator then why not a font fish
I was near thrown out of my local flyfishing shop for asking if they had beads for sale... Lol Shocker, they are out of business now.
Really ? Why lmao all fly shops should sell tungsten 😊
Some fly fishers are purists, I don't u deratand it myself. Whatever works I say.
