Good vid. How good is nymphing, the amount of fish you can pluck out of pools is just nuts. Used to spin fish and 5 fish was a good trip, now it’s not uncommon to pull that many out of a run in 10 minutes!
@@rednutflyfishing8795thinking of getting a 5wt as it will be versatile for fishing lakes and rivers with bigger trout in future. Do you think this is too heavy for areas like the howqua river and others around vic?
@maxmiko6122 a 5wt, will be perfect to get started and will cover most fishing situations. I have used a 5wt for most of the 13 years I've fly fished. The 3wt Nymphing rod I use is a 3wt for strike detection and sensitivity reasons, but it has a strong butt section for fighting larger fish. I have upgraded my lake rod to a 10ft 6wt for casting distance and to be able to fish longer leaders up to 15 ft. The next thing I will get is probably a 7ft 3wt for tight, highly vegetated streams. It's not essential, and I can do it with a 5wt, but it will just make it easier. Hope this answers your questions.
The river is accessible by 2wd in the lower reaches access is abundant along the King Valley rd but it's definitely a 4x4 river in the upper reaches. I
Beautiful water and gorgeous browns. :-)
It's a beautiful place. I need to spend more time up there.

Thanks mate. It's gotta be the best way to catch trout. It's become my favourite way to fish too.
@@rednutflyfishing8795 don’t try tell the spin fishers though 😂 they’ll go into full denial mode
Don't get me started on those treble hook using monsters. Lol 😆
With a 10’ 3# rod are you using specialist nymph fly line and leader?
I have a euro line but I actually prefer to use straight low memory mono nowadays. I find having no knots in the guides helps.
what wt rod
3wt 10 ft Orvis Clearwater Euro Outfit for this type of water.
