Hi everyone! I'm Mike and I'm attempting to build an accurate real-life version of the game Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes!
I'm programming ESP32 microcontrollers, prototyping circuits, drawing up PCBs and designing and printing the modules on my 3D printer.
Check out the playlist to see major progress updates, or hang out and chat in the IRL KTANE build Discord here: discord.gg/nVypDvg

KTOME quickie: Finished Maze with the Timer and case
มุมมอง 8574 หลายเดือนก่อน
Can you feel it?! It's coming together! Rather than test the Maze module in isolation, like I usually would, I instead decided to dust off the caes and Timer, and make a shorter demo! The Timer has been quickly and crudely turned into a "client" - it would usually be tracking strikes and time with a view to controlling the game and deciding whether it's solved or exploded, but I have it simply ...

Keep Talking or the Microcontroller Explodes: Maze code demo
มุมมอง 658ปีที่แล้ว
Quick update to show I'm still alive and working on the project! Life has been busy lately but still slowly assembling the modules to get the game ready to play. There's still some CAD and code to do though, so I took a quick break from soldering to finish the code for Maze. Sorry for the bassy audio, but I'm recording from a new computer and haven't got my old setup's settings ready. Playlist:...

KTOME quickie: Maze display
มุมมอง 1.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Wow! I really haven't been sure that I'd be able to get a good Maze module, but it's looking like it'll come together amazingly! The square display was a tough thing to find but a perfect size and shape for Maze. However the first hurdle was that the driver boards were long out of stock. I managed to find an open source design and build it, but that came with a lot of trouble to get going. Fina...

The Infrastructure board is ready and installed, the sounds have been refined, the speakers and power banks attached, and the widget slots in the case are wired up. All that's left to do is build the serial number display and test it out! More to come later, but I wanted to post this quick teaser to show the latest progress! This is so absurdly cool!! I am so glad to see how far you have gone :D
this is awesome! I've enjoyed seeing your progress realized in the Discord and it's so cool to see how far it's come :)
It's so cool to see people make things and work so hard bring them into reality because they are really that passionate! Seriously congratulations on seeing this through to this point!
Such a cool project, definitely on the bucket list to take on something similar at some point. I'm really impressed by the fit and finish. Looks like a real passion project!
Замечательная работа😊
Really cool!
what about mods
@@richartstudios maybe later
Jeez, it looks friggin AWESOME
OMG
this is amazing
will you post the code and whats needed to build one after your done ? i realy want to make one
I'll share the majority but will take a long time to document. It will be a *significant* amount of time and money to build it...
Amazing job :-)
you should sell this thing as an actual product
Unfortunately I don't own the IP, and it would be horrendously expensive to manufacture!
This is amazing! The whole build just looks so nice and so satisfying. I'm tempted to join the discord but I'm worried I'll end up spending thousands trying to follow along... Screw it joining anyway.
It's coming together so nicely, hope you'll complete it asap!
Woah! Finally a showcase! This is awesome, I hope you complete it!
@@not_sertune a very small showcase. I could put all my currently built modules in and fire it up for a full game...
@@bcorwenmaybe you could show as a little summary what's done already? BTW are you gonna sell it somehow?
@@not_sertune Progress as I build it is shared on the linked Discord, as well as demos in each previous video. No plans to sell as I don't own the rights to KTANE and it would be prohibitively expensive
It's cool to see updates from this channel once in a while, keep it up! 😄
I'm so happy to know you're STILL working on this.
This is my kinda shit right here
WHAT THE -- THATS AWESOME!!!
you're alive PogChamp. Nice work! This module looks awesome
This is really awesome! I love that! Great job! 🫡 In fact I really loved this game and wanted to replicate it myself, too. I'm writing it in Python. I started to write about 20 days ago, and I managed to make 7 of the modules work as they meant to so far. Beside from the original game, my one is 2D, which is less fancier. All the 6 sides of the bomb consists of pictured labels and frames. You can see the sides of the bomb, as well as batteries, ports, and indicators on the bomb by buttons that turns the bomb.
Hey! You still alive? Still working on this? Love your work on it
Yes but slowly. Other things got in the way, but I'm still working on it! Thanks for the message :)
@@bcorwen Oh, hi! Nice to hear that! Will you post something new to this project in some time? On a same project for a year now! Greetings from Germany
@@unhappycodings yes I'm building more modules. Probably won't have a video for a while but I'll post something when it's ready :)
@@bcorwen Thats awesome! Do you have a parts list somewhere? Or even just what displays you used? Since they are hard to get in square like for the maze?
@@unhappycodings I don't have a parts list but I've talked through a lot of details on the discord :)
Im excited to see the module completed! Great work!
Yooo that is soo cool!!!!
I really like that project! Keep going
It should work also with "y". Also need to have a bird like homer.
what oled display did you use for the morse code module?
2.42" inch OLED White Display SSD1309 128x64
This is such a sick thing I LOVE IT
Do some mod modules from the steam workshop next
I've still got a lot to do just to complete the vanilla modules first!
Holy cow! This is so cool! All that work has really been paying off! Super proud of you!
Bruh is a genius. Just hope he don’t make these into real bombs
just an extra challenge
Great work, love it!! Hoping for a release in a few years time
Hoping to get a 10-module version done by the end of the year!
I still wouldn’t bring this to a airport
Any plans on making the "sequenced wires" module? It seems like it would be pretty hard to get those little panels to swap themselves around in a small space. You could cheat and use an LCD or OLED touch panel, but that seems against the very tactile nature of everything.
Only vague plans right now as I'd like to tackle the needy modules first. I'm considering rotating a cube to achieve the effect but this has a lot of potential issues, like the wires getting snagged and space limitations. It's definitely something I'll get to much later!
How does it detect what color and text is on the button?
It doesn't ;) Other builders are going down that route, but in my case the bomb tells the facilitator which wires, buttons etc to attach to the bomb. This adds randomness and cuts down complexity and cost in wire replacements (as I don't need any special way to sense the differences)
I watched someone elses build (or half build since it only had one side) and realized that to build a real one, it would be extremely difficult to build compact enough to be played as a real life game. But as soon as I saw the serial on the other one I was like "wouldn't an e-ink tag allow the game to reconfigure itself to the modules installed?" Sure enough, here's an e-ink version. I think it's neat overall, but realistically difficult to build one simply because some of the parts are not 1:1 for real life ones, and some parts (like the DB25 parallel port) can't be scaled down. Like from just seeing you assemble it, it seems as big as my computer tower.
Yeah it's about 50cm wide and 36cm deep, and weighs in at about 10kg, which is much more than I think the scale in the game. There are certain limits with real components as you mentioned, but I think that scaling it down further would also make it harder to snip wires and press buttons, as some buttons are fairly small in the first place (thinking of Passwords as an example). I think it's still accurate and good recreation, without creating new components from scratch anyways! 😀
best cosplay I've seen all day
man this look so awesome, i can't belive that your channel has 200+ subs, and few thousand views. I wish you more attention, keep up the good work
This is completely absurd! How does this only have 1.7k views??
do you plan on making any modded modules? assuming this is open source would people be able to make their own modules?
Don't currently have plans myself as I haven't played mods. However other builders have plans and I may get to some eventually. I suppose anyone could make modules that would plug and play with what I build, if you can make it work with the comms messages!
Bomb
Directly states “bomb” on youtube 😂
Oh my god, this frickin rules!
Very entertaining video! Subscribed and looking forward to see more!
Wow, this is so much better than what I made. It was one of my first arduino projects and I used a MAX7219 8x8 led matrix display. Super cool!
I wish i have budget to recreate this.
