How POWERFUL Is Sweden's Military 2024 | NATO'S Newest Ally
How Powerful is the Swedish Military?
The recent induction of Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has a lot of heads turning. The country that has remained neutral throughout the majority of conflicts throughout history has now solidly aligned themselves with the other member countries of NATO.
Since conflict broke out between Russia and Ukraine, tensions across Europe have been rising. Sweden is very close to proximity of Russia, separated by just Finland to the north and the Baltic Sea to the South. This historic move could bring protection to the country, and also gives NATO another boost in firepower.
Sweden, although a small country, has a solid military. Their Air Force is equipped with highly capable Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets, and they have an active Navy with their close proximity to the water. The Army is well equipped with tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, and has a variety of air defense systems in place.
Since 2017, Sweden has reactivated conscription, so the country has a large military trained population, like that of Israel.
Dive in with us as we take a deeper look at the strength of the Swedish military.

This video is CAP... a lie... NAI (Naval Air/Aviation Indoc) 1. NAI (or API ...aviation preflight indoc I went through it) depending what commissioning program you went through.. NA(Naval Academy) NROTC, and qualified OCS (Officer Candidate School) graduates ( as well as other programs Marine PLC AIR, NAVCAD, etc..) its an 8 week course, and the needs of the navy comes in... If the needs of the navy states fixed wing pilots are wanted (usually no more than 3 or 4) then based on your ACADEMIC STANDING/PHYSICAL STANDING) you're blessed to the T-34(old skool / my era)/ or T-6 training wing.... ( I have never heard a Cessna 172 in the training syllabus or training wing) You went from T-34... T-2 (Guppy) and T/A-4's( old skool) / T-45's (my era) then to a tactical fighter jet or attack aircraft/carrier based planes (F-14's F/A-18's , A-6's, EA- 6's, AV-8 B's, S-3's E-2-C's &F's, F-35 B&C's and the COD's)) (depending what pipeline you qualed for.. Or NFO pipeline) Or you could end up flying Helo trainers, or maritime trainers (Pilot or NFO) and if you're Marine Aviation... Then its FAC(forward air control training in Quantico at the Basic School) before you hop into a jet!! DO NOT LET this VIDEO.. sell you!! its CAP!!!! ( a lie) ....All again.. it matters on your ACADEMIC STADNING, PHYSICAL STANDING... AND NEEDS OF THE NAVY ( THE FLEET) AND CAN YOU PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL!!! ( LANDING ON A DECK OF A MOVING CARRIER, OR GETTING A RADIO CALL TO STAY AT "MARSHALL 2K BECAUSE OF A FOULED DECK" ... fuel state 5.2!!!! Not everyone makes getting the "WINGS OF GOLD"!!! It could be Academic? Medically? Military bearing/leadership? or once again..... NEEDS OF THE NAVY/MARINE COPRS..... But once you got those wings....... ITS FOR LIFE!!!

I went through SERE at Warner Springs in 1975 before being assigned as an Aircrewman on P3 Orions. You will never see or hear what truly happens at SERE as much as we would like to tell about it, not only because we were sworn to secrecy but because of the personal affect it had on us "survivors". I had already done three tours in 'Nam as an Advisor in MACV. To this day at 78 years old having completed a thirty year career I can honestly say that SERE was the absolutely BEST training I ever had and exceeded anything I endured during my previous three tours. I learned more about myself and never feared anything for the rest of my life.

I was on the Truman in the Atlantic and the North Sea above the arctic circle while on deployment. Even though we encountered waves that were over 65 feet high at times, they still did very little to shake us up. Modern aircraft carriers weigh close to or more than 100,000 tons, so even the largest waves can't do much other than rock you to sleep, which is what happened on many occasions especially in the North Sea.

Oh my God did the bring back memories, some good some bad. Looks like a lot of things have changed since I graduated in September of 1971. One of my favorites were the yard patrol boat, or "yippies" as we called them. I stayed in King Hall and while were two to a room we did not have private bathrooms. One gang head for the whole section. The whole time we were referred to as "officer candidate ..." There were no women back then, it was an all male environment. I remember classes in tactics, navigation, and seamanship in addition to PT and leadership. Seems to me it was a 16 week course. I think the last four weeks we were called 4th level classmen or something like that. That was when we ran the regiment. We had about 600, I think in my class. There were very few minorities too, I was one of three Blacks in the Regiment. 95% of us went straight to our ships very few went to shore stations or another school. We had a Company Office who was a LT, and Assistant Company Office, CWO2 and and an E7 Chief Petty Office. The company officers and the chief were very helpful, the warrant was a prick. Gave me the wrong impression of warrants. Fortunately when I got to my ship, I was assigned as Electrical Officer with a CWO as my Material Officer. We hit off great and still correspond from time to time today.
